Is it time to be concerned with Texans QB C.J. Stroud missing OTAs? OC Nick Caley isn't
Another day, another limited practice for C.J. Stroud.
Are the Houston Texans concerned with his rep count entering next week's camp? Not in the slightest.
'He's locked in every step of the way,' Texans new offensive coordinator Nick Caley said of Stroud. 'No concerns whatsoever.'
Since organized team activities began on Wednesday, Stroud has been more of an observer than a participant. The only thing he's done physically is go through warmups and toss or hand off the football on running plays. On Friday, he handed off the ball three times before taking off his No. 7 red jersey while standing next to Caley for most of the afternoon.
Caley, who is the hopeful upgrade needed to get Houston's offense back on track in 2025, said that everyone works on their own timeline, but that doesn't mean fans need to sound the alarm for concern.
'Everybody has got a specific routine, relative to their own routine," Caley said. "He's doing a great job when he's out here.'
After suffering minor setbacks in 2024, Stroud enters his third year, which could be pivotal toward his career and future earnings as the face of the Texans. He's eligible for a contract extension after this season, which could see him near a record-level contract if he returns to near-2023 form.
While not out there running drills, Caley said that Stroud is picking up the offense mentally, calling OTAs a "discovery process" for all the players getting acclimated to the changes.
'It's really an evolving process,' Caley said, adding that he's been pleased with how things are going so far. 'This is the time to put the rubber on the road, see what we can do, and evolve from there.'
The Texans return to the practice field on Tuesday for another day with the media.

McCutchen ties Clemente for third on Pirates' all-time homers list with 240
Andrew McCutchen tied Roberto Clemente for third place on the Pittsburgh Pirates' all-time home run list at 240 with a two-run shot off San Diego's Randy Vásquez in the third inning on Sunday. It was the second homer in two games and fifth of the season for the 38-year-old McCutchen, who's in his 17th big league season and 12th with Pittsburgh over two stints. It gave the Pirates a 2-1 lead. Clemente hit 240 homers from 1955-1972. He was 38 when he was killed on Dec. 31, 1972, in the crash of a plane he chartered to deliver emergency supplies for the survivors of an earthquake in Nicaragua. He was posthumously elected to the Hall of Fame in 1973. Willie Stargell tops the Pirates' list with 475 homers and Ralph Kiner is next with 301. McCutchen has 324 homers in a career in which he's also played for Philadelphia, Milwaukee, San Francisco and the New York Yankees. ___ AP MLB:

MSU's newest commit, 3-star LB Braylon Hodge reportedly cancels remaining official visits
MSU's newest commit, 3-star LB Braylon Hodge reportedly cancels remaining official visits Michigan State picked up a commitment from a prized linebacker prospect on Sunday, and it appears he is locked in with the Spartans for the long haul. High-end three-star linebacker Braylon Hodge of Englewood, Colo. committed to Michigan State on Sunday afternoon following his official visit to the Spartans' campus. As part of that commitment, Justin Thind of 247Sports is reporting that Hodge will cancel his other previously scheduled official visits to Iowa, Utah and Minnesota. Thind considered this as "impressive" on the Spartans' part and added that Hodge's commitment was a "great start to June" for Michigan State. Hodge ranks as the No. 45 linebacker in the 2026 class, according to 247Sports. He holds a recruiting rating of 88 -- which is close to being a four-star prospect -- and is a top player in the state of Colorado. Like Thind, I found this additional report on the cancelling of Hodge's other official visits as notable. This was the first official visit Hodge took, and with no other official visits planned now, it seems like Michigan State will be in a great position to retain this commitment all the way to signing day in December.
