Rory McIlroy's private jet makes surprise return to Ireland for quick pitstop

Rory McIlroy had a fleeting visit to Northern Ireland after his private jet briefly landed at Belfast City Airport on Wednesday morning for under an hour.
McIlroy's plush Gulfstream G650ER touched down at George Best Belfast City Airport, clocking in at 6.41am, only to jet off again at 7.26am.
The swanky £38m jet has now reached Bilbao Airport. It's widely rumoured that McIlroy, who's a die-hard Manchester United supporter, is popping over to watch tonight's Europa League final.
The golf ace is expected to support the Red Devils as they go head-to-head with Tottenham Hotspur at Athletic Bilbao's stadium.
Both Premier League giants have a chance tonight to turn their domestic seasons around, with their eyes set on securing a berth in next season's Champions League, reports Belfast Live.
Following McIlroy's epic win at the Masters, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim sent out an invite through a video message.
Amorim expressed: "Hi Rory. Congratulations for the Masters, and I want to invite you to Old Trafford to show your trophy.
"It is really important for us in this moment. You achieved something a lot of people thought that would be impossible and we want that feeling in our stadium.
"So I hope to see you soon at Old Trafford and to meet you."
Quizzed about whether he'd show off the Green Jacket at Old Trafford after his Augusta triumph, he quipped: "If it can inspire some better play, absolutely."
The five-time major champion has hinted before at the prospect of chipping in financially with his boyhood club in the future.
He mentioned on Sky Sports: "Sports team ownership used to be limited to private equity, and people who had a ton of money. But now sports stars are becoming more savvy and using their money in the right way.
"I would love to be able to own a tiny percentage of the club I grew up cheering on as a boy."

Manchester United confirm Cunha signing from Wolves

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves on a five-year deal with the option of a further year. United effectively completed the deal on June 1 after activating a £62.5million release clause in the 26-year old's contract. Cunha scored 31 goals in 76 appearances for Wolves after completing a permanent move from Atletico Madrid in 2023. Cunha said: "It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player. "Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother's house, United was my favourite English team and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt. "I can't wait for the start of pre-season to get to know my teammates and prepare for the season ahead. "All my focus is now on working hard to become a valuable part of the team, and helping get this club back to the top." Cunha became Ruben Amorim's first summer signing on June 1 as the head coach sets about overhauling his squad after a miserable domestic campaign and a Europa League final defeat to Tottenham. The striker helped his country qualify for the World Cup finals on Tuesday when he set up the only goal for Vinicius Jr. in a 1-0 win over Paraguay. United's director of football Jason Wilcox added: "Bringing in Matheus was one of our main priorities for this summer, so we are delighted to have completed his signing so early in the window. "He has all the qualities we are looking for as we seek to build a strong, dynamic and entertaining team capable of challenging for the biggest honours."

Trent Alexander-Arnold habla Espanol at Real Madrid unveiling

Trent Alexander-Arnold said joining Real Madrid was a "dream come true" as he delivered his opening address to club dignitaries and invited guests in Spanish. The 26-year-old England international, who has signed a six-year deal after his contract with Liverpool expired, was watched by his family as he spoke confidently at his official presentation ahead of a press conference. His choice to speak in the language of his new club and not English surprised many but showed the preparation which had gone into this move, something for which he was criticised by sections of the Liverpool fanbase after leaving the club on a free transfer. "This doesn't happen every day, it's a dream come true and I'm very happy and proud to be here," he said after his 20-year association with Liverpool officially came to an end. "I want to show Real Madrid fans how I play; I'm going to give my all for the team and Real Madrid fans. "I want to show those fans how I play, I want to win many titles and I want to be a winner here and enjoy playing alongside the many great players." 🗣️🇪🇸 Señor Alexander-Arnold #WelcomeTrent — Real Madrid C.F. 🇬🇧🇺🇸 (@realmadriden) June 12, 2025 Alexander-Arnold, wearing a black suit and tie, sat next to girlfriend Estelle Behnke as a video montage was played of his best moments in a Liverpool shirt, inevitably featuring his two assists in the 4-0 Champions League semi-final comeback against Real's arch-rivals Barcelona. His mum Dianne, sat alongside his dad Michael and brothers Tyler - his agent - and Marcell could be seen wiping away tears as the video concluded. Real president Florentino Perez described Alexander-Arnold as: "A player who has won everything, one of the best defenders and full-backs in world football.

Tottenham to name Thomas Frank as head coach after agreeing deal with Brentford

Tottenham have reached an agreement with Brentford to make Thomas Frank their next head coach. Spurs quickly set their sights on Frank after Ange Postecoglou was sacked last week – only 16 days after he secured Europa League success – and made an official approach to Brentford on Monday. Discussions between Tottenham and Brentford initially centred on Frank's current terms at the west London club, which were set to run until the summer of 2027 and contained a release clause reportedly in the region of £10million. Justin Cochrane will move to Tottenham alongside Thomas Frank (Mike Egerton/PA) Further talks were required over which backroom staff Frank would take to Spurs but, after days of negotiations, a deal was struck with Brentford on Thursday, PA understands. Highly-rated Brentford first-team coach Justin Cochrane is set to follow Frank to Tottenham and in the process return to the club where he started his coaching journey. London-born Cochrane has been part of Frank's backroom staff since 2022, after he initially developed as a coach in Spurs' youth-team before a spell at Manchester United. Cochrane, 43, has earned a reputation as one of the brightest coaches in England and earlier this year joined Thomas Tuchel's coaching staff for the national team alongside his role at Brentford under Frank. Frank would take over a Spurs side which won a trophy for the first time since 2008 with victory in the Europa League final last month but finished 17th in the Premier League. The ex-Brondby boss has transformed Brentford during his seven-year spell in charge, with promotion from the Championship in 2021 followed by him establishing the club as a Premier League regular despite a modest budget. Christian Eriksen, who played under Frank at Brentford and starred during a seven-year spell at Spurs, backed his compatriot to be a success at his former club. 'I think he is the right coach for Tottenham,' Eriksen told Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet. 'I have had Thomas at various times and I think he is the perfect match for Tottenham, and it would be great if Thomas takes on that challenge. 'His personality, his way of playing and his way of being. And the club considering where they were last season – they won a trophy of course – but they are in the process of building something up, and I am sure that Thomas is a good man to bring in.'
