Warm welcome for new Mayor of Brent at long-standing Irish pub
AN IRISH bar in north London hosted a night of cultural celebrations while welcoming the newly elected Mayor of Brent Councillor Ryan Hack.
Irish world champion dancer Joe McGeown was also a special guest at the event hosted at Katie's Bar in Neasden.
The event was a 'celebration of Irish culture', the organisers said, with locals gathering to enjoy traditional music performed by Michael O'Hare.
A long-standing establishment on Neasden Lane, Katie's Bar has served the local community for many years.

Deeply rooted in Brent's Irish heritage, the pub is also a familiar place to Mayor Hack, who is a regular visitor to the popular spot.
The event also celebrated dancer McGeown's remarkable achievement and his contribution to Irish dancing and the wider Irish community.
As a two-time World Champion Irish Dancer, he proudly brought along his trophy to display on the evening.
'This event truly celebrated Irish culture and brought the community together to mark the return of an Irish Mayor,' McGeown said after the event.
Northwest London - particularly Neasden, Kilburn, Cricklewood, and Willesden - traditionally boasts a significant Irish population.
The London Borough of Brent has been twinned with South Dublin County Council since 1997 - a partnership built on deep historical and geographical ties between the two locations.
Mayor Hack's personal connections to Brent's Irish community stretch back to 1970, when his grandparents emigrated from Mallow, County Cork, and settled in Willesden.
Reflecting on this heritage at the event, Cllr Hack said: 'It's an honour to be the first Irish Mayor of Brent in nearly 20 years.
'I will always champion and celebrate Brent's Irish community.'
The evening featured traditional Irish food, Guinness, and live music.
As Mayor, Cllr Hack has pledged his support for the Brent Irish Advisory Service (BIAS), an organisation established in 1978 to address the welfare needs of what remains one of London's largest immigrant communities.
'It's great to have an Irish mayor once again providing a voice for the often overlooked Irish community,' Mike McGing, CEO of BIAS, said.
'We look forward to working with Cllr Hack over the coming year.'

Shoppers from all over the city rushed to the store to snap up quality clothing at pre-war prices in Ireland's first 'shopping frenzy'. During the excitement, a window was forced in and the police had to be called to help control the crowds hoping to bag founder Ben Dunne's 'Better Value' bargains. Irish football legend John Giles brings near 40-year punditry career to an end
The 42 JOHN GILES HAS called an end to his near-40-year punditry career at the age of 84, today announcing his intention to step back from his weekly Thursday slot with Off the Ball. Giles has been providing punditry for Off the Ball since the show's inception in 2002, but has now made the decision to call it a day. 'John Giles, Senior Analyst, is a titan of Irish sport', said Ger Gilroy of Off the ball. 'His weekly explanation of football truth on Off The Ball helped deepen what the country knows about football. His ability to see through bullshit and his love of the game shone through in every contribution.' Having left the West Brom manager's job in 1985, Giles first moved into media by doing punditry for RTÉ for the 1986 World Cup, agreeing to the role at Eamon Dunphy's behest. Giles and Dunphy were later joined by Liam Brady, and the trio formed the iconic RTÉ panel, which consistently shaped the conversation around football in Ireland. Advertisement Giles was the appointed 'senior analyst', whose tactical insights and innovative use of technology was buttressed by wise insights into the character of footballers along with a very low tolerance for bullshit. Giles also established a kind of canon for the sport, making clear there was a difference between a great player and a merely good player. Giles stepped away from RTÉ after Euro 2016, with Dunphy retiring two years later. Brady then left RTÉ in 2023. Giles and Brady continued to make regular appearances on Dunphy's popular podcast series The Stand, from which Dunphy stepped back at the start of this year. Giles continued his work with Off the Ball up to the end of the recent English football season, but will not return when the new season kicks off in August. Off the Ball will bid farewell to Giles at a special event at the Sugar Club in Dublin on 14 August, for which ticket details will be announced in due course.
