Richard King to join St Mirren in Stephen Robinson transfer coup

Richard King will join St Mirren in a transfer coup for Stephen Robinson.
The Jamaica internationalist, 23, has chosen a move to Paisley after a nominal fee was agreed between St Mirren and Cavalier.
The player will travel to Scotland after the international break to finalise paperwork before the move is made official and announced.
King, who had been linked with Rangers in the January transfer window, will play in the Scottish Premiership in his first venture in UK football.
The centre-back, who is comfortable on the ball and offers a physical presence in defence, was snapped up by St Mirren with the club keen to finalise a deal after being alerted to his availability.
He is also highly rated and tipped for a big future by Reggae Boyz manager Steve McClaren.
It's understood the centre-back will join on an initial two-year deal with the club, holding the option to add a year.

Cavalier co-owner Rudolph Speid was advised on a transfer deal to St Mirren for the defender by Tony Finnigan. It's hoped the transfer will raise the profile of the largely untapped Jamaican market with King among the first of a crop of Cavalier prospects to make a move overseas.
King, who comes in to replace Richard Taylor at St Mirren, is thought to have had options in England, but a move to the SMiSA Stadium is viewed a the best fit for him at this moment in time.
It's anticipated that King will be given a better platform to perform in the Scottish Premiership and is excited at the prospect of proving his qualities in a new league.
The defender is a fully-fledged international for Jamaica and previously played alongside former St Mirren full-back Elvis Bwomono at IBV in Iceland.
King captained Cavalier to the league title in Jamaica and also led his side against an Inter Miami line-up featuring Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez in the Champions Cup.

Trueshan looks like being denied Gold Cup chance again

King's stable stalwart has won a whole host of top-class races over the years, including the Goodwood Cup, three Long Distance Cups at Ascot and two editions of the Prix du Cadran at ParisLongchamp. However, he has missed the Gold Cup in each of the past four seasons due to unsuitable ground and with dry weather forecast, an appearance at the Royal meeting at the fifth time of asking seems unlikely. Reflecting on his creditable comeback fourth behind leading Gold Cup contender Candelari in the Prix Vicomtesse Vigier in Paris last month, King said: 'He ran very well. The ground was a lot quicker than they were calling it and he came back a little bit jarry after that, but he worked yesterday and will work again at the weekend. 'The forecast is not looking terribly encouraging for me really, as usual. I'd like to see a change in the forecast, but I don't think it's going to be too likely. 'He's never got to run at Royal Ascot and the old boy seems in good order, so I'll certainly put him in the Gold Cup and see.' The Barbury Castle handler has made a number of entries at Royal Ascot, and added: 'I'll run the two in the mile-and-six race on Tuesday (Copper Horse Handicap), but Tritonic won't get in the Ascot Stakes. 'I've got Daiquiri Bay in the King George V Handicap and the mile-and-a-quarter race and Paradias could go for the mile-and-a-half handicap on the Friday, so I've got a few to run and it's just a question of what gets in.'

Hale would 'be an ideal strike partner for Murray... a no brainer'

We asked for your views on whether or not Dundee should sign Ross County striker Ronan what some of you said:Gary: Of course you'd take him. Him and Simon Murray upfront, if they get played as a two are proven goal scorers in the Premiership and it'd seemingly have the makings of a decent pair. Will he come? Or will we even go in for him? As a Dundee fan we've learnt transfer speculation is usually a whole load of stuff and nonsense, but we can Yes definitely! No brainer. Hale would be a great partner for Murray, between the two players last season you have nearly 30 goals, this would be the signing of the close season for sure !Thomas: Yes, he could be a good partner alongside Murray, the new Tommy Coyne and Keith Wright If it's possible for Dundee to get Hale, they certainly should. He'd be an ideal strike partner for Murray and we know Hale can score goals in the top flight. Most other potential signings up front would represent a much bigger We need to try and hold on to Josh Mulligan. Hale would be a good signing, there are a lot of good players in the market now but will they come to Dundee?Alan: Hale would be a marquee signing for Dundee and show the club have ambition - not many signs of that up to now! We should be competing for the top six every season and pushing the boat out, for once, on players like Hale will make that I'd like to see Dundee show some fresh ambition with our signings this year under a new coach, but the owners haven't spent hard cash for transfers historically, which would have to happen to sign him. More loan deals are likely. We definitely need support for Murray.

We told you how Central Coast Mariners boss Mark Jackson was a name in the frame, with former Rangers star Charlie Adam also linked with the post. But Askou said: 'This is a really proud moment for me. 'It's a huge honour to be selected to become the manager of Motherwell Football Club. "Having spoken extensively with members of the club board, it was clear from the outset that our ideas, ambitions and morals align. 'We are all ambitious people, and we're all hungry for success. I can't wait to arrive in Scotland and begin planning for the season ahead. There is a lot of work to be done, but it's highly exciting.' Before joining Danish second-tier club Vendsyssel, Askou served as a player-assistant manager at both Skive and Thisted. He later took on the role of manager at Vendsyssel, where he got the club promoted to the Danish top-flight, before relocating to the Faroe Islands in 2019 to manage HB Tórshavn. During his first season with HB Tórshavn, Askou celebrated more managerial silverware, securing both the Faroese league title and the league cup, achieving a remarkable double. His impressive performance earned him the title of Manager of the Season in the Faroe Islands. Michael Wimmer set to QUIT Motherwell for new job after just TWELVE games as Scottish Premiership side left stunned After Tórshavn, Askou joined Danish club AC Horsens in 2021. Over the course of two seasons, he successfully guided the team back to Denmark's top division, his second promotion as a manager. In 2023, he made the transition to Sweden, taking the helm at IFK Göteborg in the Allsvenskan. Shortly after his arrival, he earned two Manager of the Month awards before he moved on to pastures new the following summer. Askou took on the role of assistant manager at Czech club Sparta Praha, where he spent six months and played a key role in leading the team to the league phase of the Champions League. In January 2025, he joined FC København as assistant manager, where he reached the knockout stages of the Europa Conference League but also secured the domestic double by winning both the league and the cup. Chairman Kyrk Macmillan said: 'This has been a more rigorous process to recruit our new manager due to the incredible number of applications for the role." 'We had a high number of impressive applicants, but we were really drawn to Jens. "His track record of working with big clubs, delivering success and developing young players matches up with all our philosophies here at Motherwell Football Club. "He has handed 26 teenagers debuts in five-and-a-half seasons, which I think is evidence of Jens implementing his ideas and morals. 'The data and numbers impressed us, but more importantly, after speaking with Jens a number of times, he is a really ambitious character and a leader who was extremely keen to get the role here at our club. 'We expect the UK work permit to be received in the coming days, and then he can commence his work on Day 1 of pre-season.' Shocked fans took to social media to express their surprise, with one saying simply: "Who?" Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
