France's Victor Perez made a hole-in-one at the par-three sixth in Friday's second round of the US Open at Oakmont.
The 32-year-old Frenchman, who has missed the cut in 11 of his 16 prior major starts, hit the ball 192 yards and it bounced twice onto the green and rolled into the hole.

Perez exchanged a chest bump with his caddie, James Erkenbeck, then waved his left hand in the air and exchanged high-five hand slaps with his playing partners, Americans Adam Schenk and Jacob Bridgeman.
The ace followed a birdie at the par-four fifth hole and put Perez on one-over par overall, level for his round with three holes remaining.
Perez, who fired a one-over 71 at Oakmont in Thursday's first round, had a three-over par eight at the par-five 12th hole but the ace moved him from being at risk of missing the cut to the low 60 and ties after 36 holes to a share of 13th, only five strokes adrift of overall leader J.J. Spaun of the United States.

How Chelsea could line-up next season
Chelsea have secured a return to Champions League football after finishing the 2024/25 campaign in fourth, and the club have already identified key areas in which they need to improve. No team in the top five scored less than Chelsea's 64 goals with attack a position in which they need to bolster. They've already confirmed the arrival of Liam Delap from relegated Ipswich Town for a £30m fee, but club officials are working on further deals. As reported via our colleagues at Get German Football News, talks between Chelsea and Eintracht Frankfurt for the transfer of French attacker Hugo Ekitike have taken place. The Frenchman has been a revelation in the Bundesliga, scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists in 33 league games last season as Frankfurt – who want a package of around €100m for the striker – secured Champions League football. Advertisement But it's another Bundesliga talent in which Chelsea have their eye on. Enzo Maresca's side have submitted a €35m offer to Borussia Dortmund for English winger Jamie Gittens, but the Bundesliga side are holding out for a fee closer to €50m. The Athletic report that Chelsea have already agreed terms with Gittens, who – despite being raw – would improve the team's wide areas with Jadon Sancho returning to Manchester United. Defensively, Chelsea face competition from fellow Champions League returnees Newcastle United in their pursuit to sign former academy product Marc Guehi. The England international played 44 games across all competitions for Crystal Palace last season, including their FA Cup final win over Manchester City. Crystal Palace are already eyeing a replacement in the event that Guehi does leave, but the Englishman would certainly strengthen Chelea's defence alongside compatriot Levi Colwill. And despite spending €83.5m on four goalkeepers: Filip Jørgensen, Mike Penders, Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic, Chelsea are set to add another goalkeeper to their ranks with Kepa Arrizabalaga nearing a move to Arsenal. Milan and Chelsea have agreed on an €18m deal that will see the Frenchman join Chelsea. The 29-year-old has declined of late but Milan have regressed themselves which is certainly a contributing factor. A new environment could do Maignan the world of good and he's become the undisputed number one at Stamford Bridge. Graphic via line-up builder Get Football | News Desk

Fireman, triathlete paralyzed after San Francisco's 'Escape From Alcatraz' triathlon
SAN FRANCISCO - What was supposed to be another athletic feat and personal accomplishment quickly turned into a disaster at San Francisco's annual "Escape From Alcatraz" event when a firefighter from Chicago became paralyzed from an injury sustained during the triathlon. Jose Perez, a father and Chicago fireman, first told SFGate that he was paralyzed after another competitor went into the water and landed right on top of him. Perez said he, like several others, jumped into the Bay to begin the triathlon. A video shared by event organizers showed swimmers jumping into the Bay from a boat deck right after one another. Perez, who told the outlet he was conscious the whole time, was face down in the water and couldn't move until another swimmer flipped him over so that he could breathe. A GoFundMe fundraiser for Perez says he was hospitalized in the ICU because of his injuries. He has since been transferred to a hospital near Denver. What they're saying The Chicago Fire Department Foundation also spoke about Perez's injury. "Hearing about his injury during the triathlon hit [the foundation] hard. It's difficult to see someone so dedicated to helping others facing such a tough battle. Jose has always been there for his community, and now he needs our support," the foundation said. The firefighter also said he felt like the triathlon was one of "the least organized races" he has participated in and said his injury could've been avoided had race officials made proper preparations, SFGATE reported. The other side In a statement to KTVU, event organizers confirmed a participant had a "medical emergency" during the event. A spokesperson said their onsite medical team immediately responded and treated Perez. Event officials said the triathlon used their yearly-evaluated safety protocols during this year's event which are in line with USA Triathlon's best practices, they claimed. USA Triathlon is the national governing body for triathlons, duathlons, aquathlons, and more in the country. "The safety of our participants is our priority. While thousands of triathletes have enjoyed a safe Escape experience over the past 40+ years, we always review our safety plans and water safety measures after each race and make any adjustments as needed, as we work to ensure the continued safety of this iconic race. "The Escape team is ready to support the participant and his family during this difficult time and we wish him a full recovery," organizers said. KTVU reached out to Perez for comment but did not hear back in time of publication. The Source SFGate, Escape From Alcatraz spokesperson, GoFundMe, Chicago Fire Department Foundation

Did Rory McIlroy make the U.S. Open cut? The latest from Oakmont after Round 2
Rory McIlroy was in serious danger of missing the cut at a major for the first time since The Open Championship last year. Through six holes of his second round on Friday, McIlroy sat eight-over par with the cut projected to come into play at seven-over. The reigning Masters champion was forced to fight his way into the weekend at Oakmont Country Club outside Pittsburgh — and it really became a battle. Advertisement Between tossed clubs, smashed tee markers and missed putts, McIlroy's second-round 72 was a rollercoaster but he finished the day six-under par and survived the cut. Here's how he did it: Birdie at 18! ... and now we wait Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland laughs with Shane Lowry of Ireland on the 18th hole green during the second round of the 125th U.S. OPEN at Oakmont Country Club on June 13, 2025 in Oakmont, Pennsylvania. WHEW. That round was an absolute ride. Rory puts away the five-footer and gets to six-over par, and moves to relative safety under the cut line, shooting 72 for the day. The cut is projected at seven-over, but there are few players still on the course due to some slow play on Friday. With such a punishing course, Rory probably won't be breathing a sigh of relief until he's officially got a tee time for Saturday. Par at No. 17 leaves Rory in limbo Rory got on in two at the par 4 but couldn't sink an 11-footer for birdie. He followed up the par by reaching the green in two again at the par 4 No. 18 — right as the cut line moved to six-over. Advertisement It might be birdie or bust for McIlory, who is just five feet from he cup. 2 holes left, no room for error McIlroy played it a little safe on the par 3 No. 16. He landed his tee shot 35 feet away from the cup, but rolled the birdie to chance to within inches and sank the par putt. Two holes left. Rory is seven-over and the projected cut remains a seven-over. Birdie at No. 15! FINALLY! Rory gets one back by sinking a 20-foot putt. The cut line has moved back down to seven-over, so McIlroy isn't out of the woods yet. He's got three to play and can't afford a mis-hit. A par and a break at No. 14 Rory needed some serious help and he got it. Advertisement Despite missing another birdie putt from seven feet out after a fantastic sand save, the projected cut line dropped to eight-over. McIlroy cleaned up for par and stays alive. He remains eight-over with four to play. Par at No. 13 Another wasted opportunity. McIlroy, who stuck one 11 feet away from the cup on the par-3 and just barely missed the birdie again. He's running out of chances to pick up some strokes here. Rory remains eight-over with five to play. The cut line is still projected to come into play at seven-over. Massive par save at No. 12! Somehow, someway, Rory found his way to a four-foot par putt and sank it. That was huge to mitigate the damage after a missed opportunity. Advertisement He's still eight-over with six to play. The cut line is still projected to come into play at seven-over. Meltdown at No. 12 McIlroy found the fairway off the tee on a par five that he absolutely needed to take advantage of to get back under the cut. On his second shot from 310 yards out, Rory hit it 243 yards to the left rough and chucked his club before the ball even landed. He's going to need some magic to get out of trouble here. Bogey at No. 11 Just a nightmare after coming so close to getting to six-over. Rory went far left off the tee, overshot the green coming out of the bunker, finally made it on with his third shot and missed his par putt by 13 inches. Advertisement McIlory is now eight-over par and behind the cut line with seven holes to play. Rory cleans up for par at No. 10 But his birdie put rolled just an inch or two alongside the hole and looked like it wanted to drop. McIlroy is still at seven-over — right on the cut line. Unfortunately, he went right into the bunker off the tee at No. 11 and has some more work to do. Birdie at No. 9 Whew, Rory needed this one. He finishes the front nine three-over par after sinking a 32-foot putt on the par-4 No. 9. McIlroy is now seven-over for the tournament and squarely on the projected cut line. McIlroy settles after two double bogeys in first three holes OAKMONT, PENNSYLVANIA - JUNE 13: Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland watches a chip shot on the first hole during the second round of the 125th U.S. OPEN at Oakmont Country Club on June 13, 2025 in Oakmont, Pennsylvania. (Photo by) It looked like McIlroy was going to play himself out of the weekend before he even made it to the turn. A pair of double bogeys on the par 4 No. 1 and par 4 No. 3 left him reeling, but McIlroy has responded with four consecutive pars. He needs to start sinking some birdies and continue gaining momentum. This article originally appeared on For The Win: Did Rory McIlroy make the U.S. Open cut? The latest from Oakmont after Round 2
