UFC Reveals New Kansas City Main Event That Has Fans Buzzing

The UFC was on a roll on Tuesday.
In addition to Dana White announcing the main and co-main event for UFC 316 in Newark, New Jersey on June 7, the promotion also unveiled a new headliner for the UFC Kansas City card on April 26.
Ian Machado Garry is stepping up to replace Geoff Neal, and he will take on hard-charging welterweight contender Carlos Prates. That fight will now be the UFC Kansas City main event, with Khalil Rountree vs. Jamahal Hill being scrapped because of an injury to the latter's leg.
Many fans took to social media after the announcement, and the sentiment seems to be the replacement fight is even better than the original.
Garry is coming off a hard-fought loss to Shavkat Rakhmonov in December. He was a late replacement for injured UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad in that fight. A win for Garry in this fight would put him right back in the immediate title picture.
It won't be easy.
Prates is enjoying a meteoric rise through the welterweight rankings. The 31-year-old Brazilian is on an 11-fight win streak. He hasn't lost a fight in six years. Prates is a perfect 5-0 if you count his impressive showing on the Dana White's Contender Series in August 2023.
Prates is also on a run, having captured four consecutive Performance Bonuses. Most recently, he destroyed Neil Magny via first-round TKO in November 2024.
This welterweight clash looks excellent on paper.
The previously scheduled main event between Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree was removed after Hill suffered a leg injury.
Rountree discussed the cancellation in the video below.
The fight was expected to take place at light heavyweight and had potential rankings implications. No replacement opponent has been announced for Rountree, and he doesn't know when he'll be back in the Octagon.
Rountree's last fight was an epic clash with former UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira in October 2024. Rountree fell via fourth-round TKO; however, he raised his stock in the process.
He dropped Pereira and pushed the champion to his brink before being overcome by one of the best pure strikers in the sport. Hill lost his last fight as well. He was stopped by Jiri Prochazka in January at UFC 311.
Hill is on a two-fight losing streak, so it would make sense that he'd want to be at 100 percent for his next fight. He cannot afford to drop three in a row, and likewise, it will be tough to defeat Rountree at 100 percent—let alone if he is compromised.
Here is a look at the updated fight card for UFC Kansas City.

Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick prediction, pick, start time for UFC on ESPN 69

Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick prediction, pick, start time for UFC on ESPN 69 Rose Namajunas and Miranda Maverick meet Saturday in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN 69 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom. Last event: 3-2 UFC main cards, 2025: 52-43-1 Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick UFC on ESPN 69 preview Namajunas (13-7 MMA, 11-6 UFC) will look to rebound from a unanimous decision loss to Erin Blanchfield in November. Prior to that setback, the former strawweight champ won back-to-back unanimous decision wins over Amanda Ribas and Tracy Cortez. Since committing to the flyweight division, Namajunas has produced mixed results with a record of 2-2. ... Maverick (15-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) has been running hot on a four-fight winning streak. On her current run, she has stopped Priscila Cachoeira and won unanimous decisions over Andrea Lee, Dione Barbosa and Jamey-Lyn Horth. Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick UFC on ESPN 69 expert pick, prediction The co-main event ESPN features a ranked women's flyweight fight between Rose Namajunas and Miranda Maverick. Although neither fighter is particularly close to the other, both ladies do have experience training together in the past. Both women eventually found their way to the quiet martial arts hotbed of Colorado amid their UFC careers, but I'd argue that the move has benefited Namajunas more. Despite Elliott Marshall and the Elevation Fight Team being a solid source for training and coaching alike, Maverick's striking game has morphed into more of a backfoot, tit-for-tat style that seemingly causes issues for her inherent grappling strengths and takedown entries alike. Namajunas may officially stand at 0-1 opposite UFC-level southpaws, but her lone sample in that department is a strange one considering that it was a competitive loss to Manon Fiorot in a fight where the former strawweight champ broke her hand in the first minute of Round 1. Nevertheless, Namajunas still showed a solid ability to adapt and match stances with Fiorot. And given that Namajunas has a history or training with southpaws that range from Valentina Shevchenko to J.J. Aldrich, I suspect that she'll fair well against the more rote striking of Maverick. It's also worth noting that Namajunas is undefeated in fights where she finds the back, and Maverick – who tends to turtle to her base in scrambles – has had her back taken by a handful of fighters in the octagon. As someone who had high hopes for Maverick early, I sincerely hope that she proves my analysis wrong here. However, I have a hard time going against Namajunas in this spot. The pick is Namajunas by unanimous decision. Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick UFC on ESPN 69 odds The oddsmakers and the public favor the former strawweight champ, listing Namajunas -245 and Maverick +194 via FanDuel. Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick UFC on ESPN 69 start time, how to watch As the co-main event, Namajunas and Maverick are expected to walk to the cage at approximately midnight ET. The fight broadcasts on ESPN and ESPN+.
