The Maine Monitor is welcoming two reporting interns into its newsroom for the summer.
Yasmeen Khan is a Fitzgerald Fellow at The Maine Monitor and a rising senior at Harvard College. Khan strives to illuminate the ways systems of power play out on the personal level.
At Harvard, Khan is the co-editor-in-chief of Fifteen Minutes, a weekly magazine of narrative journalism published by The Harvard Crimson. She is also a Ledecky Fellow at Harvard Magazine, where she writes a column on undergraduate life. Send story ideas to her: yasmeen@themainemonitor.org.
Stacey Zhang joins The Monitor with support from the Ida B. Wells Society in collaboration with the Nonprofit Newsroom Internship Program created by The Scripps Howard Fund and the Institute for Nonprofit News. She is passionate about stories that uncover deeper, systemic issues in local communities.
Zhang is a rising senior at Amherst College, where she studies history and was a managing editor for The Amherst Student. She also reported on local government for The Shoestring in Northampton, Massachusetts. Send story ideas to her: szhang@themainemonitor.org.
'We are thrilled to have their passion and energy in The Monitor's newsroom for the summer,' said Editor Kate Cough, 'and are excited to have them dive into issues we know are important to Monitor readers and to Mainers.'
Khan and Zhang will focus on a range of important topics, such as housing and immigration, among others.
