Enterprise Customer Skips Protection Fee on 2025 Toyota Corolla Rental. Then She Gets the Bill
Renting a car when you're under 25 can be challenging, frustrating, and expensive. Like, extremely expensive.
Most rental car companies typically avoid renting out their cars to people under 25, but will make an exception if the price is right. These companies will add-on extra fees to make the exception worth their while and ensure they're protected.
Speaking of protection, car renters will have the option to include extra protection against natural disasters and severe weather. So what happens when a young adult skips out on extra insurance on her rental and ends up in a hailstorm?
That's what one renter experienced first-hand. She's unhappy about the charges, even though she opted out of extra coverage. In a TikTok with more than 885,600 views, Faith (
@faithmariespillers
) shares how Enterprise is trying to charge her $10,000 after a hailstorm occurred, damaging her rental car.
So What Happened With Enterprise Rental?
In her TikTok, Faith shares that she was traveling to Oklahoma for a graduation and is under 25 years old. Enterprise charged Faith the typical rental rate and additionally a 'young renters fee,' which she claimed to be $340 for three days. According to
Enterprise
, the 'young renters fee' starts out at $25 a day but will vary based on demand and location.
After agreeing to the young renter's fee, Faith was asked if she wanted to add extra protection to her reservation. She declined after seeing it would cost $40-50 additional each day.
'I was already paying the regular fee, young renter's fee, and I'm not about to add another $40-$50 a day on top of that,' she states. Famous last words.
During her trip, a hailstorm swept through Oklahoma and ended up causing hail damage on the vehicle. Once she returned the car, she was charged her deductible of $1,000, and the paperwork began. Both parties began working on the claim and submitted photos and video evidence.
After reviewing the damage, Enterprise allegedly sent Faith an invoice for $10,000 in damages. Faith was in disbelief seeing the tab and questioned why she was being charged that much money.
'Mind-blowing and heartbreaking. Looking back I should've just laid out on the car during the storm,' Faith vents.
'What's crazy is the hail would've damaged the car in their parking lot anyway. So sorry girl,' one TikTok commenter shared.
She then advises any young car renters to always get the extra protection in case of any natural disaster or severe weather.

about the incident: 'It's important to us to resolve any unsatisfactory situations, and we take seriously any concerns brought to us by customers and investigate them thoroughly.
"Sometimes customers mistakenly believe if they didn't personally cause or witness any damage [for example, a 'hit-and-run' incident in a parking lot, flooding or hail damage] that they are not responsible. This is one of the most common misconceptions about rental vehicle damage. In fact, customers are financially responsible for damage that occurs during a rental transaction, regardless of fault or negligence, just as if they owned the rental vehicle themselves. This is stated in our rental contract. Enterprise offers additional optional coverage products that could release the renter from liability in most cases.
"We are always striving to make each renter's experience the best it can be and help customers better understand what they can do to alleviate the risk on their end.'
What Can Be Done to Avoid This Enterprise Situation?
Generally speaking, it's always safe to purchase extra protection coverage when renting a car. However, not everyone does this due to the extra cost associated.
So what can you do if damage is done while renting a car and you opted out of this extra coverage?
First, check with your auto insurance. Most auto insurance providers will consider your rental vehicle part of your plan, depending on your coverage. Insurance companies are well-equipped to go into battle to fight for your case.
'Your insurance will cover it and make sure you tell your insurance you paid your deductible so they don't deduct that from the pay out to the rental car company,' TikTok commenter added.
Second, check with your credit card company. Some credit cards will provide auto rental insurance as an added perk. Popular credit cards with this feature include Chase Sapphire, Capital One Venture X, and American Express, according to

A boom in AI spending, particularly by hyperscalers ramping infrastructure to meet surging research and development of chatbots and agentic AI, led to eye-popping returns for companies like Palantir Technologies, which markets data analytics platforms. However, concern that spending could decelerate has picked up in 2025 because of worry over a tariffs-driven recession, causing many AI stocks like chip-maker Nvidia to the eventual impact of tariffs on recession remains a question mark, there's been little to suggest demand for Palantir's services is slipping. Solid first-quarter earnings results and optimism that trade deals could make tariffs manageable have helped Palantir shares rally 63% this year after a 340% surge in 2024. Palantir's resiliency isn't lost on long-time money manager Chris Versace. Versace, who first picked up shares last year, recently updated his price target as Palantir's stock challenges all-time highs. Investors' interest in Palantir stock swelled after OpenAI's ChatGPT became the fastest app to reach one million users when it was launched in December 2022. ChatGPT's success has spawned the development of rival large language models, including Google's Gemini, and a wave of interest in agentic AI programs that can augment, and in some cases, replace traditional activity is widespread across most industries. Banks are using AI to hedge risks, evaluate loans, and price products. Drugmakers are researching AI's ability to predict drug targets and improve clinical trial outcomes. Manufacturers are using it to boost production and quality. Retailers are using it to forecast demand, manage inventories, and curb theft. The U.S. military is even seeing if AI can be effective on the battlefield. The seemingly boundless use cases — and the ability to profit from them — have many companies and governments turning to Palantir's deep expertise in managing and protecting data to train and run new AI apps. Palantir got its start helping the U.S. government build counterterrorism systems. Its Gotham platform still assists governments in those efforts today. It also markets its Foundry platform to manage, interpret, and report data to large companies across enterprise and cloud networks. And its AI platform (AIP) is sold as a tool for developing AI chatbots and apps. Demand for that platform has been big. In the fourth quarter, Palantir closed a "record-setting number of deals," according to CEO Alex Karp. The momentum continued into the first quarter. Revenue rose 39% year-over year to $884 million. Meanwhile, Palantir's profit has continued to improve as sales have grown. In Q1, its net income was $214 million, translating into adjusted earnings per share of 13 cents. "Our revenue soared 55% year-over-year, while our U.S. commercial revenue expanded 71% year-over-year in the first quarter to surpass a one-billion-dollar annual run rate,' said Karp in Palantir's first-quarter earnings release. 'We are delivering the operating system for the modern enterprise in the era of AI." AI's rapid rise has opened Palantir's products to an increasingly new range of industries, allowing it to diversify its customer base. For example, Bolt Financial, an online checkout platform, recently partnered with Palantir to use AI tools to analyze customer behavior better. "We see this as the latest expansion by Palantir into the commercial space, and we are likely to see more of this as AI flows through payment processing and digital shopping applications." Alongside Palantir's deeply embedded government contracts, growing relationships with enterprises should provide Palantir with cross-selling opportunities, further driving sales and profit growth, allowing for increased financial guidance. Palantir is guiding for full-year sales growth of 36%, and U.S. commercial revenue growth of 68%. The San Francisco 49ers agreed on a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles to bring edge rusher Bryce Huff to the Bay Area in exchange for what was initially reported as a "mid-round" draft pick. Advertisement We now officially know the exchange included a conditional fifth-round pick that could turn into a fourth based on Huff's performance with the 49ers. Judging by both teams' situations, you could argue that they both came away winners here. San Francisco was facing a mass exodus of quality defensive players this offseason and needed help on the edge opposite of Nick Bosa. For Philadelphia, they were clearly not in favor of keeping Huff after a letdown season resulted in him being a healthy scratch in the Eagles' Super Bowl win. What do the grades say? Pretty similar. ESPN believes both teams benefitted equally and earned a B+ in the deal. Advertisement On the San Fran side, Seth Walder writes: "This is a pretty reasonable play for San Francisco. As poorly as Huff played last season, there's still plenty to like in his history, and his pass rush win rate remained solid despite his struggles. "Though that shows Huff slowing down, it's still a better-than-average get-off for an edge rusher." The best part of the deal for the 49ers is the cost financially. Huff had restructured his contract with Philly to make this work, allowing San Francisco to just under $8 million for the year. Philadelphia is stuck paying more, but the restructure is much more beneficial than being responsible for his three-year, $51.1 million contract without the player. The Eagles benefit as they get to unload a player who did not meet on-field expectations last season and be rewarded with a high Day 3 draft pick. Advertisement "From 2020 to 2022, Huff recorded a 26% pass rush win rate at edge -- a top-10 number at the position had he qualified ..." Walder continued about Huff's 10-sack season that earned him that contract ahead of last year. "His win rate fell to a career-low 19% (which is still higher than average), but the sacks weren't there (2.5) and his playing time dipped before he missed time in the second half of the season to have wrist surgery." The Eagles still have a loaded roster and this departure shouldn't do too much to their pass rush depth with them bringing back a collection of formidable pieces in Nolan Smith Jr., Azeez Ojulari and Joshua Uche. Plus, Philadelphia gets to save a bit of cap space by shipping off some of Huff's contract. Everything seems even right now, but that's the funny thing about grading trades with over three months until the season starts. Things can happen one way or another to cause drastic reconsideration for the true winner here. How Long Is Colorado's Eisenhower Tunnel (And Is It Safe To Drive Through)?
The Rocky Mountains form the spine of America, coming down from Canada and reaching south all the way to New Mexico. In the U.S., they're most imposing in Colorado, home to the highest peak and largest area of the range. That made driving across the Colorado Rockies difficult, with drivers having to navigate both the roads swerving around the (of course) rocky terrain and, in winter and even spring, the snow and the ice. So there was nothing else to do but drill a hole through it. In the 1950s, with President Dwight Eisenhower pushing the modern highway system as one of his signature domestic achievements, Colorado Gov. Edwin Johnson jumped on the federal willpower (and funding) for new routes to argue for a tunnel straight through the Rocky Mountains. In a feat of engineering that went way over schedule and over budget, two bores were blasted and drilled, one for westbound traffic, one for eastbound. Named, respectively, the Eisenhower Tunnel and the Johnson Tunnel (after the president and governor), this incredible system is a whopping 1.7 miles long (coincidentally, about as long as Elon Musk's Las Vegas tunnel), taking around two minutes to drive through in light traffic. As a mountain tunnel (the highest part of the whole U.S. highway network), it features relatively steep inclines on the way in and declines on the way out. It's also narrow, with no shoulders. Given all that, is it safe to drive through? Read more: These Are The Most Annoying Things About Your Cars There has never been a fatality in the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel. Accidents happen, of course, and in winter, snow and ice can make them more likely. While it's relatively rare -- around three times a year -- a vehicle might even catch fire in the enclosed space (though that issue has been declining across the country for 40 years). That's all bad enough, but the main issue is that there's no shoulder for emergency vehicles to use to reach the problem. To handle that, the tunnel has a metering system (essentially, traffic lights at the entrances, like some highway on-ramps have) that it can deploy in emergencies. That stops traffic while emergency vehicles, like the tunnel's fire crew, do what they need to do. The tunnel also has a fire suppression system throughout (including sprinklers). In addition, the system boasts 28 fans, each 10.5 feet in diameter, pumping in fresh air and pumping out exhaust fumes. This also, naturally, helps get fire smoke out of the tunnel when necessary. Without this massive HVAC system, the tunnel's air would be unbreathable. Given that the system's tunnels are inside a mountain range, where snow collects and then melts into rivers, it's not exactly shocking that lots of groundwater seeps into them. As water tends to do, that causes a lot of damage that has built up over time. If you drive through, you might notice crumbling walls and infrastructure. The state of Colorado is investing in long-term repairs to try to mitigate this issue, so for now at least, the overall structure ought to be safe to travel through. And it's important that travel does continue through the tunnels. In peak season, up to 50,000 vehicles can pass through in a single day, an economic value that the Colorado government estimates to be worth $2 million per hour. In fact, the glamorous resorts of the upper Rockies, such as Vail, only exist in their current form because of the tourism this tunnel enables. The Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel, then, is a critical lifeline for the whole state. In other words, it's unlikely the authorities will simply let it decay into unuseability.
