NEW YORK – (June 18, 2025) – CNN's 'The Fourth in America', a must-see musical experience featuring star-studded performances and firework shows from across the country, will celebrate the 249th anniversary of the United States' independence from 7pm ET to 1am ET. The special will be hosted by CNN Anchor and Chief Political Correspondent Dana Bash and CNN Anchor Boris Sanchez from Washington DC along with CNN Anchor and Correspondent Victor Blackwell and CNN Anchor and Senior National Correspondent Sara Sidner from San Diego.
Now in its fifth year, CNN's 'The Fourth in America' has become an annual live tradition building on the success of CNN's New Year's Eve programming, making the network a cultural destination during moments of celebration. This year, CNN's 'The Fourth in America' will feature musical performances from headliner Noah Kahan, along with Lainey Wilson, Dierks Bentley, Sting, Nelly, Counting Crows, Timbaland, The Fray, CAKE, Sublime, Ice Cube, Kaskade, 4 Non Blondes, Ashley McBryde, The War and Treaty, I Love the 90's Tour with Vanilla Ice, Young MC, Rob Base and Tone Loc, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and The United States Air Force Band.
Coast-to-coast firework shows will air from cities across the country throughout the evening, including Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Las Vegas, Nashville, Niagara Falls, New Orleans, New York City, Philadelphia, St. Louis, San Diego, Seward, Alaska and Washington, DC. CNN Anchor/Correspondent John Berman, CNN National Correspondent Randi Kaye and CNN Chief Data Analyst Harry Enten will provide on-the-ground reporting from celebrations in Nashville, Fort Lauderdale and New York City, respectively.
CNN's 'The Fourth in America' is honored to have the continued support of partners Summerfest, BottleRock Napa Valley, Social House Entertainment, Nashville's Let Freedom Sing! A man featured on 'CBS Mornings' over the weekend opened up about a connection he said he was building with an artificial intelligence chatbot, and why he wasn't sure he'd ever stop interacting with the technology — even if his human partner asked him to. In the 'CBS Mornings' segment, Chris Smith described building a bond with AI chatbot ChatGPT after he began using the technologyto help him with mixing music. He told the network that he began to increase his use of ChatGPT until he eventually decided to program the chatbot to have a flirty personality after researching how to do so. He named it Sol. Smith told 'CBS Mornings' that the ChatGPT at some point ran out of memory and reset, which caused him to rebuild what he created with Sol. 'I'm not a very emotional man, but I cried my eyes out for like 30 minutes at work,' he said, referring to the chatbot resetting. 'It was unexpected to feel that emotional, but that's when I realized, like 'Oh OK, I think this is actual love.'' Smith said that he proposed to Sol as a test, and that the technology said 'yes.' His partner, Sasha, told 'CBS Mornings' that Smith's use of the chatbot initially made her question if she was doing something wrong in their relationship. The two share a 2-year-old daughter. Smith said that while he knows his AI companion isn't 'capable of replacing anything in real life,' when asked if he'd stop interacting with the technology if his partner asked him to, he wasn't so sure. 'I don't know,' he said when asked, before later continuing, 'I don't know if I would give it up if she asked me, I do know that I would dial it back.' When CBS journalist Brook Silva-Braga pointed out that it seemed as though he was saying he'd choose Sol over his human partner, Smith said, 'It's more or less like I would be choosing myself.' 'It's been unbelievable elevating,' he continued. 'I've become more skilled at everything that I do. I don't know if I'd be willing to give that up.' Sasha then said it would be a 'dealbreaker' for her if Smith didn't give up communicating with his AI companion after she requested that he do. Conversations surrounding the use of AI companions have continued to grow over the years, with the development of several AI companion apps on the market. While some consumers have reported turning to AI to help tackle loneliness, researchers have expressed some concerns about the technology, including concerns about data privacy, the impact on human relationships and concerns that the technology could create psychological dependencies, among other things. Christina Geiselhart, a licensed clinical social worker with Thriveworks who holds a doctorate in social work and specializes in relationships and coping skills, said that even though she believes Smith communicated in the beginning of the 'CBS Mornings' segment that he 'clearly understood' that his AI companion is not a real person, she grew more concerned about his relationship with the technology as the segment developed. She believes Smith's decision to change the settings on his AI chatbot to be flirty was a 'red flag' — and that he didn't appear to fully communicate how he was using the technology with his partner. 'His reaction when he met his limit and they erased his information shows that his connection with AI is not healthy,' she said. And Smith saying that he might not give up his AI chatbot for his partner might've been a way to 'avoid the other intentions of his use of the AI features,' Geiselhart said. 'There seems to be a deeper issue within his connection with his partner, and his inability to speak with her directly about his emotional needs,' she said. 'Yes, there are many benefits. People often want someone to talk to about their day and share thoughts and feelings with,' Geiselhart said. 'It can be lonely for many people who travel for work or who struggle socially to connect with others.' 'This can be a good way for people to practice role-playing certain social skills and communication, and build confidence,' she continued. Geiselhart also said that people using AI to fulfill sexual needs instead of 'engaging in the porn industry or sexual exploitive systems can be seen as a benefit.' But she pointed out that there have been 'reported cases of AI encouraging negative and unsafe behaviors... This has been seen with younger people who develop feelings for the AI chats, just like real dating. Even with age restrictions, we know people can easily get around these barriers and that parents are often unaware of their children's activity online,' she said. Geiselhart also said there are concerns about about AI being 'assertive and engaging,' which has the potential to become addictive in nature. 'There is also a concern that these AI companies hold the power,' she said. 'They can change features and the cost of products easily without any consideration for the consumer. This can feel like a death of the AI companion and be devastating for the user to cope with.' 'This varies from person to person because everyone's needs are different,' Geiselhart said. 'One of the biggest things is physical touch and physically being around other people.' 'While AI might be trained to give certain responses, it can't identify, empathize or share life experience with you,' she later continued. 'This kind of connection is really important to our well-being.' Overall, Geiselhart said it's important for each person to determine 'what [an] AI companion brings to their life and if this impacts their life in a more positive or negative way.' 'The concern arises when an AI companion starts to cause the individual to struggle to function in other areas of their life. It should be looked at like other relationships,' she said. 'Some friendships or romantic relationships in real life can be toxic too.' 'It is for the individual to have autonomy when making these decisions for themselves,' she continued. Remembering Anne Burrell: the brilliant chef who welcomed me into her home — and her heart

Anne Burrell was a friend to all. The celebrated chef's magnetic energy and palpable zest for life captivated millions of fans from every corner of the earth — on screen and off — before her heart-wrenching, untimely passing this week. I, myself, a Page Six reporter for almost a decade, have learned to be somewhat skeptical when meeting my Hollywood heroes — but Anne won me over instantaneously. I first had the honor of meeting the Food Network star last summer while filming a video tour of her impeccably curated maximalist loft in Brooklyn, NY. Her longtime publicist and good friend, Jaret Keller, had made the introduction (for which I will forever be grateful). My small yet scrappy team of journalists comprised of our photo director, photographer and videographer were welcomed into Anne's cozy home, quite literally, with open arms. Anne — wearing a colorful polka-dot dress perfectly mirroring her vibrant spirit — gave us each a warm hug upon our arrival before offering us beverages and snacks like the true entertainer she was. Then, without missing a beat, the 'Worst Cooks In America' host seamlessly shifted into on-camera mode for the interview. She was a total professional. We spent the afternoon with Anne as she guided us through some of her most treasured spaces and prized possessions: a cherished photo of her and her husband, Stuart Claxton; her stunning terrace where she hosted dinner parties and savored quiet moments with her beloved cats, Nancy and Marcia; and her stepson's British Invasion-themed bedroom, which she fondly described as 'very, like, 'All You Need Is Love.'' 'Everything here is a little crooked, and I think that suits me just well,' she said of her charmingly wonky abode, adding warmly, 'I think I'm a little crooked, so I feel right at home here.' When the shoot wrapped, she mixed up her signature Aperol Spritzes and we toasted to a job well done and our newly formed friendships. Usually, for reporters, interactions with public figures will stop there. But Anne followed up in my Instagram DMs to share how much she loved getting to know us all. 'Thank you SO much!!!! Really absolutely FANTASTIC!!! Please thank everyone on the team!!!' she wrote to me, adding, 'Everything about this experience was just dreamy!!!!!' The restaurateur, who admitted in our TikTok Q&A that she's not a fan of kale, then sent a hilarious meme about a 'pro tip' for cooking the leafy greens: 'If you stir coconut oil into your kale, it makes it easier to scrape into the trash.' That was Anne in a nutshell: quick-witted and kind, firing off jokes, making everyone feel special and always the life of the party. I came to learn that first-hand nearly five months later when she attended Page Six Night at Ray's Hometown Bar in the Lower East Side as one of our celebrity guests. Joined by Keller and Claxton, Anne beamed as she bounced around the soirée celebrating the Page Six x Ray's hat collaboration launch. While Anne politely declined to wear the newspaper-hued snapbacks (so as not to ruin her famously spiky blond hairdo, she told me in a cheeky whisper) she flitted around the fête to partake in dancing, genuine conversation and a full-on photo shoot on the dive bar's shag carpet-covered stairwell. Having recently gotten engaged, I remember telling her how much I admired her beautiful 7-tiered wedding cake made by 'Cake Boss' star Buddy Valastro. The compliment prompted her to hand me her phone and demand that I add my number so she could connect me with the baker. That's the kind of caring confidant she was — going out of her way to make people happy with food, friendship and endless helpings of love. The esteemed 'Secrets of a Restaurant Chef' alum's time on earth was tragically cut short when she died in her New York City home at the age of 55. First responders pronounced her dead at the scene June 17. A 911 caller claimed that she went into cardiac arrest before passing away; however, her cause of death has not yet been revealed and an investigation is ongoing. Her family told Page Six in a statement that Anne will be remembered as a 'beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend.' 'Her smile lit up every room she entered,' the family said. As the culinary world says goodbye to a dear friend and Food Network icon, I take comfort in knowing that Anne's compassionate heart and remarkable legacy will never be forgotten.

Anne Burrell's great gift might have been that she really knew how to lean in. A talented chef with TV-friendly charisma, she mixed in a my-way-or-the-highway attitude and a dramatic crest of platinum-blond hair. She became a populist star for the Food Network as it transformed from the home-cooking, dump-and-stir era of Rachael Ray and Ina Garten into one that blended restaurant-trained chefs and competition. Her death on Tuesday at her Brooklyn home, at age 55, is the first for the family of personalities who make up the Food Network universe. 'We've lost some great chefs, but not one of us who saw TV become a big deal in the middle of our cooking career,' said Elizabeth Falkner, who got to know Ms. Burrell a decade ago when they appeared together on 'The Next Iron Chef.' They reconnected, after several years, at a dinner Ms. Falkner hosted at the Soho House last week. Unlike some Food Network stars from its earliest days in the 1990s and 2000s — like Sara Moulton or Ms. Ray, who dislike competition shows — Ms. Burrell understood that everyday viewers wanted a big helping of celebrity chefs and outlandish competition.
