Pakistan Women delivered a clinical performance to defeat West Indies by 65 runs in a low-scoring encounter at the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier at Gaddafi Stadium on Monday, marking their third consecutive victory in the tournament.
Batting first, Pakistan set a modest target of 192, anchored by a steady 54-run innings from Sidra Amin. Opening batter Muneeba Ali contributed 33 from 60 deliveries, while Sidra Nawaz and Aliya Riaz added 23 and 20 runs respectively.
West Indies' bowlers kept the scoring in check, with Hayley Matthews, Karishma Ramharack, and Afy Fletcher each claiming a wicket. Ashmini Munisar and Aaliyah Alleyne also chipped in with one wicket apiece.
Despite a disciplined bowling effort, the West Indies batting line-up crumbled under pressure. They were bowled out for just 126 runs, with only Aaliyah Alleyne (22) and Shabika Gajnabi (21) reaching double figures.
Pakistan captain Nida Dar played a vital role with the ball, taking three wickets to lead the attack. She was supported by Rameen Shamim and Nashra Sandhu, who claimed two wickets each. Sadia Iqbal picked up one.
Sidra Amin was named Player of the Match for her composed half-century, which laid the foundation for Pakistan's defendable total.
'This win boosts our momentum and brings us closer to qualifying for the main tournament,' said Amin following the match.
With earlier wins over Ireland and Scotland, Pakistan significantly improving their chances of securing a place in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup.

England chase down big total to seal T20 series against Windies

BRISTOL: Jos Buttler top-scored for England again as they chased down an imposing target and beat West Indies by four wickets in the second T20 on Sunday to take a 2-0 lead and seal the three-match series, continuing their excellent form under new captain Harry Brook. Former captain Buttler's 47 from 36 balls at Bristol's County Ground came on the back of his 96 in the first T20 in Durham and set the platform for England to hunt down West Indies' total of 196-6 with nine balls to spare. It was a second straight series victory for England under the captaincy of Brook after they secured a 3-0 series sweep in the one-dayers. Jacob Bethell hit a thrilling 26 from 10 balls, which included three sixes, as England spread the runs throughout the team with Ben Duckett (30), Brook (34) and Tom Banton (30) providing solid backup. 'We had a lot of fun out there,' said Brook. 'They had a very good finish. We stuck to our plans through the middle really well. They didn't get away. 'We had a discussion before going out to bat that it was only a matter of a couple of big overs. We chased the score beautifully. It was a very good performance.' England, who won the toss and chose to bowl, got off to the perfect start with Luke Wood, who was the hosts' standout bowler with 2-25 in his first appearance since September 2023, striking Evin Lewis on the pads with the day's first delivery, but the tourists quickly steadied the ship. Shai Hope took the fight to England with 49 off 38 balls, while Johnson Charles started patiently before he also fell just short of his half century, with 47 from 39 deliveries. The West Indies innings threatened to stall at that point but a rollicking finish peppered with sixes from Rovman Powell, Romario Shepherd and Jason Holder saw them power to a healthy total, even considering the County Ground's short boundaries. Australia's Hazlewood does not want to miss WTC final again 'I thought we were a few runs short, with the dimensions and the pitch being a decent one,' said West Indies captain Shai Hope. 'I don't think we capitalised on the middle overs with the spin, but whatever we have on the board we have to defend it… We have to try and bounce back, win the game and finish the tour strong, setting the tone as a team.' Batting depth England lost Jamie Smith for four in the second over as he tried to hit one down the ground but was caught by Holder. That brought Buttler to the crease and he wasted little time in taking the attack to the tourists, with England ending the powerplay on 58-1. The hosts' progress was interrupted as they were reduced to 72-2 when Duckett fell after a brisk 30 from 18 balls trying to smash Shepherd for six only to draw a superb diving catch from Powell who plucked the ball out of the air on the run. Buttler was handed a reprieve in the 10th over when Charles fumbled and dropped what should have been an easy take in the deep but the England batsman did not last much longer. He was out for trying to sweep Akeal Hosein and his dismissal offered redemption for Charles, who this time held on to the catch. Brook was then caught at long-off as Powell pulled off another good catch off the bowling of Roston Chase, before England stepped up a gear. Four sixes in six balls turned momentum in their favour with Banton hitting Gudakesh Motie over the rope before Bethell dished out a double punishment to Alzarri Joseph. Yet after another ball sailed for six in the same over, Joseph got his revenge, taking the wicket of Bethell, who was out when he was caught behind by Chase attempting a reverse lob. That left England on 169 for five after 16 overs and by the time Will Jacks (7) was caught by Chase off Joseph England needed just nine runs from 16 balls. They moved comfortably within striking distance before Brydon Carse hit the winning runs, swinging at a delivery from Holder that looped back over the wicketkeeper for four. With the final match of the series to come in Southampton on Tuesday, England can wrap a second straight clean sweep. 'It's nice to win any series, especially off the back of the ODIs keeping the momentum going,' said player-of-the-match Wood. 'Hopefully we can make it 3-0 in a few days' time.'

Australia's Starc comfortable with IPL pullout regardless of repercussion

MELBOURNE: Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc is comfortable with his decision to leave the Indian Premier League (IPL) following the India-Pakistan clashes last month regardless of any repercussions, the 35-year-old said. The IPL was suspended on May 9 in the wake of hostilities between the two. It resumed on May 17 after the nuclear-armed neighbours agreed to a ceasefire. While most IPL foreign recruits returned to complete their franchise commitment, the Delhi Capitals duo of Starc and fellow Australian Jake Fraser-McGurk took no further part in the 10-team league. 'I'm comfortable with my decision and how I felt about the whole situation and how it was handled,' Starc told the Sydney Morning Herald on Friday. 'Time will tell with repercussions or how it looks with guys that didn't return. But I've had my questions and concerns leading into that game, and obviously we saw what happened, which played a part in my decision.' Starc was in Dharamsala, near the Pakistan border, for Delhi's May 9 match against the Punjab Kings. The contest was abandoned midway through, although league organisers blamed it on a floodlights failure. 'Jake and I chose not to (return). So it was a very individual decision, and I'm happy to live with whatever comes of that,' Starc said. He opted out of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan earlier this year citing personal reasons and has skipped the IPL more than once to preserve himself for international cricket. Marsh back to skipper Australia in Windies T20s, Cummins and Starc rested The left-arm quick said he withdrew from the remainder of the IPL because of the extraordinary circumstances. 'I'm still heavily committed to the Delhi group, and I'm not someone that's gone into tournaments and pulled out after being picked up in an auction or whatever that looks like,' Starc said. 'These are different circumstances … I had a discussion back home then came to a decision, and whatever comes from that I'm comfortable with that and we move forward.'

Marsh returns to lead Australia against West Indies

Mitchell Marsh showed promising form with the bat in the IPL, where he amassed 627 runs in 13 innings. Photo: AFP/file Cricket Australia (CA) on Wednesday announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against the West Indies, set to begin next month. Uncapped players Mitchell Owen and Matt Kuhnemann have received their first international call-ups. Notably, promising young batter Jake Fraser-McGurk has been left out of the squad. Despite featuring in seven of Australia's last eight T20Is, Fraser-McGurk has managed just one half-century and failed to cross 20 runs in each of his other six innings. Xavier Bartlett and Marcus Stoinis have also been omitted. Mitchell Owen earned his spot after a stellar Big Bash League (BBL) season, where he finished as the tournament's leading run-scorer with 452 runs in 11 matches at an average of 45.20 and a remarkable strike-rate of 203.6. His explosive 108 off 42 balls in the final led the Hobart Hurricanes to the title and earned him the Player of the Match award. Mitchell Marsh will captain the side following a prolific IPL season, where he amassed 627 runs in 13 innings for the Lucknow Super Giants, including his maiden century in the tournament. Veteran all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who recently retired from ODI cricket, retains his place in the T20 squad. Tim David also returns after missing the latter part of the IPL season with champions Royal Challengers Bangalore. Cameron Green and Cooper Connolly make their comebacks following brief injury layoffs, while Josh Hazlewood is back after being rested for the recent T20I series against Pakistan. Australia have opted to rest key players Pat Cummins, Travis Head, and Mitchell Starc for the T20Is, with the series beginning in Jamaica on July 19—immediately after the conclusion of the three-match Test series. Chair of Selectors George Bailey emphasised the importance of squad depth and experimentation ahead of the T20 World Cup. "We have a busy T20 schedule coming up through this series, followed by three against South Africa and New Zealand and five matches against India at home as we continue to refine and build a squad we think will be the right fit for the World Cup on the subcontinent," Chair of Selectors George Bailey said. "There are a number of players outside the squad who can still force their way into the mix for those upcoming Indian Series and through the Big Bash. "The connection, role development and combinations we will have as options are growing nicely as we build towards the World Cup. It's an exciting time in our T20 space," he added. Australia T20I squad: Mitchell Marsh (C), Sean Abbott, Cooper Connolly, Tim David, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Matt Kuhnemann, Glenn Maxwell, Mitch Owen, Matthew Short, Adam Zampa.
