The Indian men's cricket team is in England these days to take part in a five-match Test series against the Ben Stokes-led side. Ahead of the start of the series opener of the much-awaited series, former England captain and legendary batter Kevin Pietersen has predicted India's batting order.
According to Pietersen, who has now donned the hat of an expert and commentator after his retirement from international cricket, India's new Test captain Shubman Gill can bat at 3 or 4, and he backed KL Rahul to open the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
In his playing XI, Pietersen included both Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair and suggested that in England, Indian team management should consider including one extra batter.
'Shubman can decide; wherever Shubman is comfortable batting, he can bat at 3 or 4. KL (Rahul) and Yashasvi will open the batting. I'd have Sai Sudarshan and Karun Nair; that's your top 5. Potentially at 6, you might look at another batter. I think in English conditions you might have to look at another batter. At the top of my head I don't know who the other batters are in your squad, but you might have to have a look at another batter, and then Pant can bat at 7, and then you have your four seamers and a spinner," Pietersen said in a video shared by Star Sports on X.
Gill, who was appointed as India's Test captain on May 24, has never played at No. 4 for India in Tests, but after the retirement of Virat Kohli from the five-day format of the game, he has been tipped to take the new role.
