ABU DHABI (WAM)The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) has confirmed it has taken all necessary steps to guarantee continuous airport operations across the UAE. This includes close coordination with all operational entities to address the fallout from recent regional and political developments that led to airspace closures in certain countries. The primary goal is to ensure the safety and smooth movement of passengers without compromising service quality.The ICP clarified that its approved emergency business continuity plan was immediately activated when these events unfolded. This ensures operational flexibility and minimises potential disruptions to travel, especially given the airspace closures by some nations. The plan encompassed precise operational and regulatory procedures, executed in collaboration with strategic partners.To maintain peak readiness and immediate responsiveness, the Authority has bolstered airport field teams with qualified personnel and robust operational capabilities, available 24/7.Furthermore, the ICP is coordinating with all relevant operational bodies to manage the situations of stranded passengers, ensuring they receive vital support such as temporary accommodation, logistical services, and accurate information.The ICP also stated that a streamlined system for passenger entry into UAE airports has been implemented, aligning with current operational needs. Direct guidance is being provided to passengers by support teams, with immediate coordination with airlines in the UAE for flight rescheduling.
The Authority commended passengers for their cooperation and understanding during these exceptional regional circumstances. It reiterated its unwavering commitment to undertaking all necessary measures to guarantee the security and safety of all travelers under any conditions or emergencies. The UAE's free trade negotiation team is outstanding and has delivered remarkable results, contributing to record-breaking growth in the UAE's foreign trade in a short period."The UAE Cabinet reviewed the 2025 Global Competitiveness Ranking results, published by the IMD World Competitiveness Centre in Lausanne, Switzerland. This year, the UAE is ranked among the top five globally, scoring 96.09 out of 100 UAE advanced two positions from last year, surpassing countries such as the United States, Sweden, Germany, and Canada, while maintaining its top ranking as the regional leader for the ninth consecutive report evaluates 69 countries based on four key areas: economic performance, government efficiency, business efficiency, and infrastructure. Its findings cover 341 competitiveness indicators across economic, administrative, and social 2025 edition also introduced five new indicators: food waste, environmental performance, freely elected government, passport mobility, and media year, the UAE made significant progress in the business efficiency pillar, rising seven spots to rank third globally. It also maintained a strong standing globally in economic performance and government efficiency, ranking second and fourth, UAE's exceptional performance in key sectors contributed to its leadership in 113 global indicators across the report's main and sub-pillars. The country ranked first globally in 22 indicators, including employment rate, absence of bureaucracy, availability of global expertise, digital transformation in companies, venture capital, inbound mobility of higher education students, public-private partnerships, energy infrastructure, and female parliamentary UAE also ranked second globally in social cohesion, flexibility of residency laws, and government policy adaptability, while securing third globally in graduates in sciences, leverage of digital tools and technology, and healthcare Cabinet reviewed the 2024 report of the Higher Commission for Free Trade Negotiations. The report highlighted the signing and conclusion of negotiations for 27 Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPAs) with various countries, of which eight have already come into agreements drove the UAE's foreign trade volume to an unprecedented Dh5.23 trillion in 2024, according to the World Trade Organisation (WTO).The UAE's non-oil exports reached a historic milestone, exceeding Dh440 billion in 2023, marking a 16.3% growth compared to 2022 and a remarkable 83% increase from 2019. Several cultural festivals and local market initiatives were organised, attracting over 206,000 visitors, supporting 171 families, and engaging 790 volunteers. The Cabinet reviewed the achievements of the fourth edition of the Make it in the Emirates platform (2025). This initiative attracted over 122,000 visitors and participants, facilitated Dh168 billion in potential procurement agreements to localise the manufacturing of 4,800 worth Dh11 billion were signed for industrial projects, alongside Dh40 billion in financing solutions over five years to support SMEs.A new category, the UAE Traditional Crafts, was introduced to recognise individuals and organisations excelling in traditional Emirati Cabinet reviewed during the meeting a report on the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme, which highlighted the federal government housing decisions issued during the first half of 2025. Sharjah Ruler chairs meeting on higher education strategy
17 June 2025 19:36 SHARJAH (WAM)His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, chaired the second meeting of the permanent executive committee of the Sharjah Higher Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research on Tuesday at the University Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi welcomed the committee members and emphasised the council's role in the coming years, following his directives to correct administrative concepts, improve university governance, and implement strategic committee discussed various topics and future plans, including the council's work report, organisational structure, strategy, subcommittees, academic staff promotion and evaluation criteria, as well as research and innovation committee also reviewed university admission conditions, the diversity of academic programmes, and main and specialised fields to ensure they meet labour market demands and students' Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi approved the preliminary budget for the remaining period of the year, amounting to Dh 18 million, alongside endorsing the council's new logo and headquarters at the University Highness directed the committee to oversee scholarship affairs in Sharjah's higher education institutions, adopting governance frameworks and coordinating between universities and scholarship providers—governmental, semi-governmental, and scholarship standards for postgraduate studies were approved, similar to those for bachelor's degrees. Sharjah students registered with the emirate and with a monthly income below Dh50,000 will receive full scholarships, while those with higher incomes will benefit from 50% fee scholarships will continue for groups such as children of imams and students with disabilities, funded by the Emiri Diwan. Universities and academies will offer special discounts to other categories like high achievers in academics, sports, research, and other fields.
