Ahmedabad heats up again as max temp hits 39.1°C on Wednesday
Ahmedabad: The sun made a sharp comeback on Wednesday, nudging the city's maximum temperature up to 39.1°C — a rise, though still 2.9 degrees below the seasonal normal. The night, however, stayed unusually warm, with the minimum temperature at 28°C, nearly a degree above normal.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) expects Thursday to sizzle at around 39°C.The forecast also indicated chances of light to moderate rain with gusty wind.The IMD report indicates an upper air cyclonic circulation continues to hover over Gujarat, paired with a trough stretching from Saurashtra to the east-central Arabian Sea. The IMD has warned of a 2°C to 4°C spike in daytime temperatures through the weekend.Thursday may also bring light thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across districts in south Gujarat and pockets of Saurashtra including Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Gir Somnath. On Wednesday, 10 talukas recorded rainfall of 1mm or more, with the heaviest showers logged in Poshina, Sabarkantha (23 mm), Umergaon, Valsad (21mm), and Dahod (19mm) by 8pm.Elsewhere, the heat was more intense. Surendranagar topped the state's temperature chart at 40.8°C, trailed by Rajkot at 40.6°C, Kandla at 40°C, and Ahmedabad at 39.1°C. The IMD has predicted that temperatures will climb back to the seasonal average over the next few days.

It started to rain around afternoon and the intensity varied in different localities, with some areas experiencing only light showers. Mercury to rise by 2-3C in next 2-3 days: IMD
1 2 Bhubaneswar: Day temperature would rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the state during the next three days from Saturday with no relief from continuing hot and humid conditions in several coastal districts for at least four days, IMD said on Friday. Manorama Mohanty, scientist and head of the regional IMD centre here, said that little change in prevailing wind pattern supported the rise in day temperature. Mohanty said there are no signs of further advancement of monsoon in the coming one week. "Southwest monsoon, which arrived 15 days before its scheduled date, has only covered parts of south Odisha," Mohanty said, adding that monsoon generally arrives in the state after June 10. However, she said thunderstorm activity with lightning or gusty surface wind would continue in some districts. Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm continued in some districts on Friday and in the last 24 hours. Chandbali recorded highest 75.6 mm of rainfall, followed by Jagatsinghpur with 39.4 mm on Friday. The city recorded 1.2 mm of rain. Similarly, Purushottampur in Ganjam district received the highest 46.8 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. On Saturday, thunderstorm activities are likely in five south Odisha districts. Hot and humid conditions would continue in the 11 coastal districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati, the IMD forecast said.
