Aussie's hilarious reaction after winning $30m Powerball

Perth Now09-05-2025

A man from New South Wales has struck gold, winning the entire $30 million jackpot in Thursday night's Powerball draw, declaring he is 'done with bills forever'.
After holding the only division one winning entry in Powerball draw 1512, drawn on Thursday, 8 May, the man from Cessnock bought from Shell Aberdare Newsagency on Aberdare Road, netted him the life-changing prize.
An official from The Lott delivered the news shortly after the draw, catching the winner completely off guard.
'Holy sh..t!' he exclaimed, overwhelmed by the moment.
'Bless you, man! Bless you!' he laughed, before erupting into disbelief.
'I just had this ticket on the fridge. I was looking at it this afternoon and thought, 'wouldn't it be lovely to win'. The ticket was there with all the bills. There will be no more worrying about bills now. I don't care if I get a bill now!'
Shaking with excitement, the newly minted multi-millionaire admitted sleep might be off the cards for the night.
'I used to wonder what I'd do if I got a winning phone call, but now all I can do is shake! I better take a breath or two.'
After a self-described 'rough trot,' the man said the win was a turning point for him and his family.
'For a start, I'll look at buying a new house and looking after the family. Then, I'll take it from there.'
His first move? 'I'm going to ring my kids right now and tell them the news!'
The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1512 were 33, 32, 35, 14, 15, 7 and 34.
The Powerball number was 12.

Powerball jackpot soars to $100m

A staggering $100m jackpot will be up for grabs next week after no claims were made for the Powerball division one prize in Thursday night's draw. This is the first time the top prize has reached this amount since November 2024, and the 12th time Powerball has offered a $100m jackpot in the game's 29-year history. Powerball has jackpotted to $100m. Picture: NewsWire / Jeremy Piper This year alone, eight Powerball division one winners have taken home more than $210.8m – three in Queensland, two each in NSW and Victoria, and one in Western Australia. Last year, a man from South Australia claimed a whopping $150m, the game's biggest individual lottery win in Australia. It will be the 29th time in the game's history that that amount has been offered. Picture: NewsWire / Nikki Short While there were no division one winners on Thursday night, six lucky Aussies took home $127,979 each in the division two prize pool. The winning numbers were 1, 30, 12, 34, 24, 9, 6 and the Powerball 10. Tickets for the upcoming Powerball are available for purchase until 6pm next Thursday in-store, online or via the Lotto mobile app.

Check your Lotto tickets! Two big WA prizes still unclaimed

Buy a Lotto ticket over the weekend? WA punters are being encouraged to checked their slips as two players scooped division one wins. A ticket bought from Two Rocks News And Post was a winner, claiming the $1 million prize from Friday's Millionaire Medley draw — with the lucky numbers being 20, 44, 41, 15, 16, 43. The celebrations didn't stop there, with Saturday's Lotto draw had a WA online player be one of six to take home $627,568 from the Division One prize - the numbers were 30, 26, 11, 22, 36, 13. Another seven WA players had a Division Two win from the Saturday draw, earning a cool $7600. The pair of Division One wins brings WA's tally up to 32 for the year. 'These WA winners are sharing in more than $67 million worth of Division One prizes,' Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney said. 'We are hoping to add to WA's winners' list following Thursday's $100 million Powerball jackpot. 'Thursday's $100 million draw is the biggest jackpot offered by Powerball so far this year, and it would be fantastic to see a win of this size shared by a few WA players. 'When jackpots reach these heights, they create a wonderful chance for players to join a syndicate with friends, family or workmates, to share the cost of a ticket and possibly the joy of a win.'
