Glasgow artist Alannah Moar releases brand new single

Glasgow Timesa day ago

Alannah Moar, a Glasgow-based alt-pop artist, has released her latest single Sandpaper, a track that reflects on feelings of self-awareness and personal growth.
Known for her dramatic folk-pop, Moar began her musical journey at the age of 14 and has spent the past decade honing her craft.
She has headlined shows in Glasgow and Edinburgh and performed alongside artists including KT Tunstall, Amanda Palmer, Callum Beattie, Soda Blonde, and Lazy Day.

Sandpaper follows Alanah's previous single Ready or Not, with both tracks named Single of the Week on BBC Radio Scotland's Afternoon Show.
The release, designed to resonate with anyone who has faced the hard truth of personal accountability, marks another step in her artistic growth.
Described as mixing an "infectious" rhythm with "deeply introspective" lyrics, the song was inspired by a period of personal struggle in the young artist's life.
Alannah said: "The narrative is about realising you're the problem in a relationship, which sounds depressing, but I think it's actually quite optimistic - because it's acknowledging that you have to do better, and that's hopeful."

(Image: Supplied) The single takes its name from both a literal and metaphorical connection to DIY work in Alannah's flat, with the singer using sandpaper to symbolise emotional patterns that negatively impacted her life.
Originally written in pieces, Sandpaper evolved, drawing influence from the glossy pop sounds of Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Charli XCX.
Alannah said: "I refined it, made it a bit more me, a bit less of a pastiche."
Through her continued updates, the artists hoped to balance a polished production style with vulnerable storytelling.

Rhyl's multi-screen cinema to reopen in latest boost for seaside town

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Rhyl's multi-screen cinema is set to reopen as the embattled seaside town shows early signs of a revival. The town has suffered a tough few years with the closure of the Vue cinema on the seafront, as well as losing the SeaQuarium and the failure of the Skyflyer to take-off. This was compounded by storm damage closing the SC2 waterpark. But this week came the news it would reopen next month. The town is also set to benefit from a £20m UK Government investment in the resort - with a board set up to decide how that should be spent. The Queen's Market Food Hall and Event space will also open in July. Now independent national cinema operator, Merlin Cinemas have announced they will take over the closed five-screen cinema, subject to completing lease arrangements with Denbighshire County Council, who own the site. The Cornwall-based independent operator has 21 other cinemas across the UK, including the Scala at Prestatyn. The company has a reputation for operating historic cinemas, as well as repurposed and modern buildings as cinemas, in communities often overlooked or underserved by larger cinema companies. Following the closure of the cinema at the end of January, Denbighshire County Council said it has been "working hard" to attract an operator to the popular amenity on Rhyl's promenade. Councillor Jason McLellan, Leader of Denbighshire County Council and Lead Member for Economic Growth & Tackling Deprivation said: 'We're delighted to have Merlin on board to ensure that residents and visitors can enjoy a great day out in Rhyl. Once the lease is signed and Merlin have taken over, the cinema will play a pivotal role in the broader regeneration efforts in Rhyl town centre.' Merlin is working closely with the Council to complete and sign the lease and with suppliers to assess the work needed behind the scenes before it can reopen. They said they are committed to improving the cinema and enhancing the cinema experience for the local community. It may mean that the cinema reopens in phases. There will also be a new name, which is still under wraps. Sign up for the North Wales Live newsletter sent twice daily to your inbox Merlin's Founder and Managing Director, Geoff Greaves, who was awarded an MBE for his outstanding contribution to the cinema industry, said: 'We're delighted to have been successful in our bid to operate this cinema. We're already familiar with the location because of our cinema four miles along the coast in Prestatyn, but when the opportunity came along, we jumped at the chance. "We are doing everything we can to get the doors open so that the town has a cinema again. We really believe that seeing a film at the cinema on the big screen with family or friends is a very different experience to watching it at home; it is more memorable, more sociable and offers a sense of occasion. We look forward to welcoming you back to your cinema very soon.' Councillor McLellan added: 'The cinema itself is in a great location opposite Queen's Market Food Hall and Event space, which will open on 10 July, therefore this is a great opportunity to be part of an exciting time for Rhyl. As a Council, we're delighted to have found an operator to take over the site so quickly and we're looking forward to working with Merlin to secure the success of the facility. 'When it opens, I urge residents to support the cinema as well as other leisure facilities in the town – we need everyone to be backing our businesses to ensure their continued success.' Before their departure, Fiongal took to The Wellness Foundry Instagram to share: "We are at the airport, just boarding, goodbye India". Jamie also shared some light-hearted thoughts on the impending 10-hour flight. The couple had been documenting their travels on social media, describing the trip as a "magical experience" and teasing followers with a future vlog about their adventures. Reflecting on their journey, Jamie remarked: "We really have been on quite a journey and then just spending the last night here in this most amazing hotel, we've just had the most delicious Thali food. It was the perfect way to round up the trip." After a 10-day wellness retreat, the London-based pair were scheduled to fly back on the Air India service, according to Birmingham Live, which referenced information from Jamie's brother Nick Meek, reports the Manchester Evening News. Nick, a caretaker hailing from Birmingham, told the publication: "We were expecting him home tonight. He should have landed at 6.30pm and then driven up for about 11 to get his dog who is staying with our Mum," as reported by the Express. Their mother has been deeply impacted by the news, with Nick revealing: "She is not in a good way. It is all very raw for her at the moment. It's a lot to take in and we only heard this news a couple of hours ago." Jamie had previously wowed the crowds on BBC One's reality competition Dance X. The show, presented by Ben Shephard, pitted male against female dancers in a battle to form the ultimate dance group, guided by dance pros Arlene Phillips and Bruno Tonioli. Krishna Pujara, deputy leader of the National Council for Gujarati Organisations in the UK, expressed her sorrow: "It's a very, very sad day. We have been doing our best to try to help everybody and see what we can do to help." She added that on this sombre occasion, "On a dark day for the community we stand in unity with the families of the victims - may they find strength and peace."
