This Brooklyn bar is shaking up MTA-themed cocktails

Time Out01-05-2025

One of Brooklyn's favorite neighborhood bars is reaching a major milestone this month: Grand Army Bar is turning 10.
For the past decade, this Cobble Hill drinking destination has kept us buzzed and entertained with its rotating cast of cocktails, from honky-tonk tipplers and ' cats (not the musical) ' to an entire lineup dedicated to the life and style of Nicolas Cage. The latest menu to drop draws inspiration from New York's transit system that we love to hate: the MTA.
Yesterday, the bar unveiled 10 new cocktails, including a frozen drink, all dedicated to our subway rides. Priced at $18, cocktail names will instantly be familiar to anyone who has ridden the train in the last five minutes, from the Fare Evasion with mezcal, manzanilla sherry, cantaloupe and chamomile, to the sparkling Showtime with gin, herbs, lime, banana and mint. Shouting out the Bronx, there is Van Cortlandt Park, a tiki cocktail whose bright orange color nods to another mainstay in the area, Lloyd's Carrot Cake. While the BDFM trains get lumped into one cocktail, the G Train gets its very own. Also named the G-Train, the Brat-colored cocktail comes with Mexican gin, cilantro, poblano, blanc vermouth and gentian. However, it is uncertain if it will also take 20 minutes to arrive at your table.
Shots also get the transit treatment, with the option to order Local or Express. There are also a few zero-proof bevies for the non-alcoholic crowd, including the Stand Clear made with house-made grape soda, cardamom and elderflower, and the Accessible Station with spirit-free gin, papaya, guava and clarified coconut yogurt.
Keep in mind, if you plan on attending the 10-year block party this weekend on Sunday, May 4, these new cocktails will be stuck at the station (aka, they won't be available). However, we implore you to check out the party and make a return trip for these subway inspired sips.

She's an iconic actress from a famous Hollywood family and was married to another Oscar winner... who is she?

This Oscar-winning star has spent decades in the spotlight and comes from a famous family. Her first role was in 1987's Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, and she went on to score an Academy Award years later. One of her two recognizable ex-husbands, Nicolas Cage, is also an Oscar-winning A-lister. And her younger brother appeared in a horror movie franchise, where he met his superstar ex-wife. On Thursday, the female star attended the Gonzo Girl premiere at Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. Can you guess who it is? The acclaimed Hollywood veteran is Patricia Arquette. For Thursday's occasion, the 57-year-old actress — who r evealed she's on dating apps earlier this year — modeled a midnight blue satin dress with long-sleeves, a waist tie, and a long pleated skirt. While posing on the red carpet, the Escape at Dannemora was joined by 53-year-old brother David Arquette. The Scream sensation was by his sister's side to support her film, which she directed and also stars in. He was dressed in a cherry-red blazer, which he layered over a crew neck white T-shirt and wore with light-colored khaki trousers. The Hollywood vet, who shares 20-year-old daughter Coco with ex-wife Courteney Cox, tied the look together with white, black, and red Nike sneakers. The Arquettes' other siblings are 65-year-old Rosanna Arquette, 61-year-old Richmond Arquette, and the late Alexis Arquette, who died of HIV in 2016 at age 47. Patricia carried a yellow-gold handbag on Thursday evening and her light brown bob was coiffed in a side part and tight waves. While posing on the red carpet, the Escape at Dannemora was joined by her younger brother, actor David Arquette While on the red carpet she also posed with the star of her film, 27-year-old actress Camila Morrone. Morrone, who used to date Leonardo DiCaprio, looked typically stunning in a form-fitting and low-cut white dress. Her long and lustrous brunette locks were parted down the middle and flowed over her chest in a subtle wave. Camila stars as Alley Russo in Patricia's dramedy Gonzo Girl, which is based on the 2015 novel of the same name by Cheryl Della Pietra. Alley is a bookish graduate with literary aspirations who takes a job assisting a famous writer with a wild reputation, Walter Reade (Willem Dafoe), at his Colorado ranch. Arquette premiered the indie project at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2023. Since then she's recut it in hopes of landing a buyer. She told IndieWire about her directorial debut, 'I feel so grateful to the producers and for this opportunity to go back in and continue to learn about the filmmaking process and be able to re-edit this movie. 'It's been really fun and interesting, and so many people have helped in this process. It's exciting.'

ITV's huge new entertainment show to replacing Saturday Night Takeaway revealed – and show will have a hidden twist

Also find out how Stephen Mulhern has passed Roy Walker's Catchphrase record – but why he'll never copy his iconic catchline SHOW TIME ITV's huge new entertainment show to replacing Saturday Night Takeaway revealed – and show will have a hidden twist With Saturday Night Takeaway and Dancing On Ice on the shelf, ITV has had a vacancy for its next big entertainment hit. And I can reveal that a star-studded prank show called Celebrity Sabotage has already been filmed and will fill the primetime slot. Advertisement 6 ITV is to fill the Saturday primetime night gap with star-packed prank show Celebrity Sabotage, with Joel Dommett as host Credit: ITV They've installed channel golden boy Joel Dommett as host with I'm A Celebrity favourites Sam Thompson and GK Barry plus Loose Women's Judi Love as support. Their mission will be to playfully sabotage unsuspecting members of the public by completing daring and funny stunts. And they'll be helped along by a bulging line-up of celebs which include Jill Scott, Fay Ripley, Olivia Attwood, Jo Brand, Guz Khan and Harry Redknapp. But that's not where the A-list action ends. Advertisement Each episode begins with a set of contestants arriving for what they believe is a brand-new ITV show. These range from cooking challenges and relationship tests to business tasks and even murder mystery games. To make it even more convincing, these fake shows will have believable hosts, including familiar faces such as Clare Balding, Matt and Emma Willis, Monica Galetti, Jason Fox, Sara Davies and Rylan Clark. Every successfully executed sabotage mission will add more money to a secret prize pot for the contestants. Advertisement A source said: 'Celebrity Sabotage will have everything ITV does best at its heart — fun and laughter, a huge cash prize and it's absolutely jam-packed with celebs.' The show is set to air on ITV later this year. I'd love to have been in the green room for this one. Joel Dommett reveals unaired moment I'm A Celebrity star was told off by bosses after breaking major rule Horror time for Mary 6 Mary Louise Parker swaps party hats for horror as she stars as sinister Ms Sigsby in adaption of Stephen King's The Institute Credit: Chris Reardon/MGM+ Advertisement Just because she's wearing a party hat in a first look at new Amazon MGM+ series The Institute doesn't mean that Mary Louise Parker is all fun and games. The actress plays Ms Sigsby in the adaptation of Stephen King's novel of the same name, the director of a shady institution that kidnaps children before putting them through horrifying experiments and dishing out torture in the hopes of them developing telekinetic and telepathic powers. The series director Jack Bender told me: 'Mary Louise's character is evil, and the villain, and even more so coming, let me tell you!' She's joined by Ben Barnes in the series, as former police officer Tim Jameson, and Martin Freeman's son Joe, as main character Luke Ellis, a super-smart 12-year-old with telekinetic abilities. Advertisement And for Joe, the most intimidating part of the new role wasn't getting to grips of the horrors of what happens to Luke, but getting to grips with being on set away from his family. He joked: 'I felt intimidated landing in Canada. I didn't know anybody on the whole continent.' The Institute airs on MGM+ from July 13. Prime Video will air a series of documentaries about some of the UK's most high-profile true crimes. Black History Month comedy showcase 6 A new sketch show comes from the people behind the BBC's Munya Chawawa's Race Around Britain and Channel 4's The Big Narstie Show Credit: Getty A new sketch show is coming to ITV later this year to celebrate Black History Month. Advertisement Say! Less! will be packed with sketches based on the differences between internet culture and the offline reality as part of the ITV Diversity Commissioning Spend, a £80million project laid out over the next three years. It comes from the minds behind the BBC's Munya Chawawa's Race Around Britain and Channel 4's The Big Narstie Show. An insider teased: 'Say! Less! is a rapid fire mix of viral parodies and absurd character - it's bold, smart and unapologetically Black British Gen Z.' Casting is yet to be announced but will showcase talent from rising comedy stars. Advertisement It will stream on ITVX in October. Patsy's live 'too dull' for Wives 6 Patsy Kensit has turned down Real Housewives of London – admitting her life's too quiet for the drama-packed series Credit: The Mega Agency I revealed last month that she was approached to star in the new Real Housewives of London, but Patsy Kensit has now revealed why she turned down the opportunity. And it's not because the actress, who is the ex-wife of Liam Gallagher, was worried about sharing the behind-the-scenes of her life on the Hayu series. Advertisement Surprisingly, it's because she reckons her life is too boring. Patsy told me: 'I did have a meeting with them, but I live in my little flat in London with my cat, my sons have flown the nest, and I don't think my lifestyle would stand up to these women. 'I wouldn't fit with them - but I'm a huge fan and I love the show, Real Housewives of Cheshire's Dawn Ward is one of my favourites, I'm a superfan of hers.' The full line up features Real Housewives of Jersey star Karen Loderick-Peace, millionaire mogul Amanda Cronin, Ladies of London's Juliet Angus, Bake Off: The Professionals star Nessie Welschinger, Australian model Juliet Mayhew and socialite Panthea Parker. Advertisement Stephen: 'End of an ear-a' 6 Stephen Mulhern has passed Roy Walker's Catchphrase record – but reveals why he'll never copy his iconic catchline Stephen Mulhern has now presented more episodes of Catchphrase than show legend Roy Walker – but he's not following in his footsteps quite yet. Chatting to TV Biz on the set of ITV's Celebrity Catchphrase, Stephen revealed a secret behind Roy's famous 'It's good… but it's not right' saying, which he'll never emulate. Stephen said: 'The reason he used to say that is he never used to wear an earpiece to the production team. Advertisement 'So the floor manager would give him a thumbs up if the answer was right, or a thumbs down if it was wrong. 'So to give him more time, Roy would go, 'it's good..' wait for the floor manager to go down or up… then 'but it's not right' or 'and it's right!'. Which is amazing, really, isn't it? 'I find it fascinating that Noel Edmonds, Roy, Bruce Forsyth, all those legendary performers and presenters never wear earpieces. 'They just don't like it. Brucie never did it, even on Strictly.' Advertisement Patrick is Doc's orders 6 Martin Clunes has been bringing joy to hospices with his pet horse Patrick and therapy dogs – calling the visits 'just fabulous' Credit: Getty - Contributor Doc Martin star Martin Clunes takes his pet horse Patrick into hospices to cheer patients. The actor, who played ITV's socially awkward medic for 10 series, volunteers his pet dogs at the local centre too. He said: 'I've been doing it for a few years. Every now and again, I take a horse down there. Advertisement 'He's a big horse. He's like 18 hands, Clydesdale. 'And they just like to touch him really. People have a gut emotional response to him.' Clarifying on the Oh My Dog! Podcast, he went on: 'Not indoors, outdoors. But then afterwards, I'll take a dog around the wards. 'And that's just fabulous.' Slicked-back Christian Bale bats away his Dark Knight image to play NFL great Al Davis in Madden biopic

Christian Bale was more cantankerous coach than caped crusader as he appeared on set this week for his latest film. The actor - famed for his roles in Batman and American Psycho - was seen shooting scenes for the NFL-themed biopic, Madden, in which he will play the late Oakland Raiders owner and manager Al Davis. For the shots, the 51-year-old Hollywood star had balding hair slicked back and wore a leather jacket and white T-shirt. The David O Russell movie boasts an all-star cast, with Nicolas Cage starring as John Madden, the Raiders coach and NFL broadcaster who gave his name to the Madden NFL video game. John Mulaney plays Trip Hawkins, the founder of Electronic Arts, while Sienna Miller plays Madden's wife. Al was the managing general partner, principal owner and de facto general manager of the Raiders for 39 years, from 1972 until his death in 2011. On Monday, Sienna and Kathryn Hahn were spotted for the first time in their elegant retro attire as they got into character. Sienna, 43, was particularly glammed up with voluminous blonde curls, beaded necklaces and a glimmering dress with a 60s-inspired print. Kathryn - who plays Virginia Madden - was outfitted in over-sized sunglasses, a chic pea coat and striped turtleneck. Sienna is playing Carol Davis, who was married to Oakland Raiders owner Al from 1954 until his death in 2011. While the Raiders are now in Las Vegas, the team has remained in the Davis family since Al died. Carol is now 95 and is part-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, after inheriting the team from her spouse. Their only child, son Mark Davis, 70, also inherited the organization and is now owner. After the team officially moved to Sin City's Allegiant Stadium, Carol helped christen the venue by lighting the Al Davis Torch Memorial ahead of the Las Vegas Raider's inaugural game in 2020. 'There's only one person that can possibly light it, and she's agreed to do it, that's the first lady of the Raider Nation - my mom,' Mark told ESPN at the time. 'I get chills thinking about it. I get goosebumps thinking about it. Probably tears thinking about it. But there's nobody that could have lit it other than her. 'Because it's really a tough time in the country, but also here in Nevada, we don't want to seem that we're celebrating or anything of that nature. 'But to have my mom light that torch means so much, and I think it will mean a lot for everybody in this valley, so I'm excited.' Like the Davis couple, Virginia was married to John Madden from 1959 until his death in December 2021. They have two sons. In early 2022, Virginia returned to the RingCentral Coliseum in Oakland to pay tribute to her late husband at One More Monday Night in Oakland: A Celebration of John Madden. 'When John passed, I said, "I want to have a gathering at the coliseum," ' she said. 'I know he's up there and I know he's smiling down on all of his players that are here and all of you people, the fans that supported him for so many years.' A synopsis of the Madden film on IMDb reads: 'After being forced into retirement by the Oakland Raiders, fiery former NFL head coach John Madden teams up with a mild-mannered Harvard programmer to rewrite his fading legacy by building the world's first football video game.'
