State College, Cambria Heights schools awarded over $800k from Solar for School funds
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — Cambria Heights and State College schools will receive more than $800,000 in state funding to help pay for solar energy projects, Senator Wayne Langerholc Jr. announced Tuesday.
A total of $836,810 will be awarded from the Solar for School funds — $437,522 to The Cambria Heights School District and $399,288 to the State College School District.
Cambria Heights will be installing a 358-kilowatt roof-mounted system at Cambria Heights Elementary. The funds will be used to purchase and install, as well as engineering, administrative operations and maintenance costs. Langerholc said the total price of the project is $875,044 and will result in an average annual savings of $58,989.
State College will use its $300,000 towards the installation of a 630-kilowatt photovoltaic system on the roof of Park Forest Middle School. The total project is expected to cost $1.1 million with average annual savings of $79,095.
Another $99,288 will be used for Mount Nittany Elementary School, according to the full list of approved projects.
'Solar energy can help school districts reduce their energy costs and save taxpayer dollars,' Langerholc said. 'I'm pleased to help secure funding that will allow schools to cover upfront costs for projects that will provide long-term savings.'
The grants were awarded through the Solar for Schools Grant Program, created in 2024 and funded by the 2024-25 budget.The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development that administers many of Pennsylvania's economic development and community improvement programs.

PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) — A Pennsylvania Representative announced legislation that aims to prohibit the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in political campaigns. The bill, authored by Rep. Tarik Khan (D-Philadelphia), argues that while AI has the potential to make content creation 'more efficient,' it also equally has the power to spread disinformation — propaganda intended to mislead against a rival or media. Khan noted that as AI has become more widely available, 'bad actors' have used the programming to produce content targeting political candidates, public officials and government programs. The Federal Election Commission has considered a proposal to limit AI-generated political content, but it is currently uncertain whether regulatory action will be taken or not. Khan argued that while that decision is being made, Pennsylvania must join the 14 other states that have adopted laws or resolutions related to AI. 'Voters need accurate information on political candidates to make the best and most informed decisions for their families and communities,' Khan wrote. 'Please join us in protecting Pennsylvania voters against deception and manipulation by signing on to this proposal.' Under the legislation, the dissemination of a campaign advertisement containing an artificially generated impersonation of a candidate would be prohibited if done without consent and with the intent to influence the election outcome. In May, McDonald's launched their new McCrispy strips, touting them as a permanent fixture on all McDonald's menus across the country. Taco Bell fans can now make two of the chain's most popular menu items at home McDonald's announced the return of the snack wrap to fanfare across social media. Now, we know it will officially launch on July 10 at participating locations. Those locations include the greater Johnstown and Altoona area, McDonald's confirmed. The snack wraps will be available in their classic ranch, which debuted originally in 2006, and a new spicy version, complete with a habanero kick. Both come with lettuce and shredded cheese. The return of chicken strips and snack wraps isn't surprising. Popular Caribbean restaurant in Johnstown is moving to the Galleria Mall

Island Cuisine announced the move, saying they're 'beyond excited' to open at the mall on 500 Galleria Drive from their location on Broad Street. With them will be their elevated and authentic Caribbean fine dining, an experience they say is like no other. 'This is more than just food.
