After Nilakshi flattened the India bowlers with her three sixes and five fours, Anushka Sanjeewani (23 not out off 28 balls) and Sugandika Kumari (19 not out off 20 balls) got the job done for Sri Lanka to push the third team South Africa on the verge of elimination.

In the chase, Hasini Perera (22 off 27 balls) was run out after a direct throw from Deepti Sharma but Harshitha Samarawickrama added 78 runs for the second wicket with Vishmi Gunaratne (33 off 58 balls) to lead Sri Lanka's response..
However, Gunaratne's knock was cut short by Arundhati Reddy just when the former was looking good for a big score, substitute fielder Amanjot Kaur completing a fine running catch after the batter got a thick outside edge.
Harshitha, who played a fine hand of 53 in 61 balls while hitting five boundaries, was dismissed by part-tie off-spinner Pratika Rawal at a crucial juncture to leave the game in the balance. Vijayawada: Visakhapatnam cricket stadium will host five matches of the upcoming ICC Women's World Cup, said Vijayawada MP and Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) president Kesineni Sivanath on Sunday. He addressed the media after the 72nd annual meeting of the ACA held in Vijayawada. Sivanath also mentioned that One Day International (ODI) matches will also be held soon. He emphasised that the ACA is focused on upgrading Visakhapatnam stadium to international standards. "ACA plans to build cricket grounds in all 25 districts of Andhra Pradesh. Priority will be given to the construction of new stadiums in Kurnool and Nellore. Additionally, the association is working towards launching the Andhra Premier League (APL) in the near future," Sivanath added. The 72nd annual general body meeting (AGM), held at a hotel in Vijayawada, brought together apex council members, district cricket association representatives, and players. This marked the first AGM under Sivanath's leadership and was unanimously described as a success. He noted that since the new body was elected eight months ago, ACA has been working toward sports infrastructure development and talent promotion. Sivanath said the ACA-VDCA stadium in Visakhapatnam was modernised in just 45 days, enabling the venue to host two IPL matches earlier this year. Though four matches were initially sought, time constraints limited the allocation. He added that both BCCI and ICC officials, including BCCI secretary Jay Shah, expressed satisfaction with the stadium's upgrades, leading to the sanctioning of five Women's World Cup matches and an upcoming ODI. As part of its long-term infrastructure vision, ACA has submitted a proposal for a world-class international cricket stadium in Amaravati. The association has requested 65 acres of land from the State in the capital region's upcoming Sports City. Sivanath said that the goal is to construct a venue that can accommodate one lakh spectators—comparable to Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium. Preliminary discussions were held with the ICC and BCCI, and the proposal has received in-principle approval. In terms of local development, the ACA announced it would double the annual grants given to district cricket associations—from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 40 lakh. This financial boost is aimed at strengthening grassroots cricket and increasing the number of local tournaments. Sivanath stated that ACA's objective is to ensure that each affiliated district ground hosts at least 200 days of cricket annually. ACA secretary Sana Satish highlighted that the meeting focused on district-level cricket advancement. He said associations from across the state proposed ground development plans, and the ACA was committed to helping them materialise. As India eye future, Rohit Sharma may not stay ODI captain
Mumbai: Indian selectors are expected to go with the same long-term vision with ODI captaincy as they did with Test leadership. The next ODI World Cup is slated for October, 2027 by when Rohit Sharma, the current captain, would be 40. It is difficult to predict if he would last the distance in terms of form and fitness, and to avoid having three separate captains across formats – Suryakumar Yadav is the T20I skipper – the selectors are known to be inclined to hand over ODI leadership also to Gill. Whether the move would be made right away would depend on how workload of the all-format players is spaced out in the lead up to the home T20 World Cup in February, 2026. Gill, 25, will be among them, and his show with the bat and as captain in the England Test series will also be assessed. It's unusual for Indian cricket to have a flux in the leadership group and the selectors want to address that. For the best part of the last ten years, captaincy across formats was held by Virat Kohli and then Rohit. Currently, Suryakumar is primarily seen as a T20I specialist. Rohit has quit T20Is and Tests. Rishabh Pant, the Test vice-captain, is not an automatic pick in the other formats. Gill too has work to do before he makes the T20I spot his own. Currently, 12 ODIs are scheduled until next year's T20 World Cup – the immediate priority. All those in a targetted group of players would be trialled under Suryakumar's leadership. India's next ODI series in Bangladesh in August is the yet to be confirmed. Then come three ODIs in Australia (Oct), and three each at home against South Africa (Nov-Dec) and New Zealand (Jan '26). 'Quite frankly, a lot of us thought Rohit wanted to move away from the ODI format after winning the Champions Trophy,' a BCCI official said. 'There have been no discussions between Rohit and the selectors since over his ODI future.' With regard to BCCI's tribute to Rohit on X' as he ended his Test career, which said he would continue to lead in ODIs, the board official said that was nothing more than a mention of the current status. Rohit's recent ODI batting template has been interesting. The 38-year-old has flipped a switch where he attacks in the Powerplay overs with the same intent as in T20Is. He was a hit in the 2023 ODI World Cup, in terms of strike rate as well as impact innings. But subsequently, sustaining such a tempo with any consistency has proved difficult. More than his age, slowing reflexes in the field, and his having to constantly battle niggles – Rohit played the Champions Trophy with a hamstring niggle and the IPL mostly as Impact Player – haven't inspired confidence. Rohit has repeatedly made it clear that he has no plans to quit ODIs. 'I'm not going to retire from this format, just to make sure that no rumours are spread going forward,' he said after winning the Champions Trophy final in March. 'I have retired from two formats, but I am still playing one format,' Rohit again said in May when he had a stand named after him at the Wankhede stadium. 'When India plays whichever team here (in Mumbai), that'll make it even more special.' While the romantics would want India to have another crack at ODI Cup glory under Rohit after the agonising defeat in the final to Australia in the 2023 campaign, the selectors are likely to take a more pragmatic call.
