IPL 2025: Anand Mahindra, chairman of Mahindra Group, paid an emotional tribute to the star cricketer, 'loyal' Virat Kohli, as he lifted the IPL cup for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the first time in 18 years.
'Loyalty like this doesn't just win titles — it carves legacies,' Mahindra said in an X post.
Highlighting Virat Kohli's unwavering loyalty to the team over the years, despite not winning the championship, Mahindra said, 'For 18 years, Virat Kohli gave his heart to a team that had never touched the trophy.'
'Waiting for the light of that dawn. And now, at last, the stars have answered his faith.'
He also quoted Rabindranath Tagore and said, 'Faith is the bird that feels the light and sings when the dawn is still dark.'
Virat Kohli joined RCB as a 19-year-old soon after winning the 2008 U-19 World Cup. He played in two IPL finals as a player, in 2009 and 2011, and led RCB as a captain to the final of the 2016 season as a 27-year-old.
His 973 runs in that gargantuan season remain an IPL record.
Kohli relinquished captaincy at the end of the 2021 season and still continued to give his best as a batter. He was the top scorer in the 2025 final for RCB, scoring 43 off 35 balls.
'I gave my youth, my prime, and my experience,' said a teary-eyed Virat Kohli after winning the match.
The star cricketer added: 'I have given everything to the team for the last 18 years. I have been loyal to this team, no matter what. I stood with them (fans and team). They stood behind me. I always dreamt of winning this with them.'
Virat also compared his IPL win with the trophies he won with the Indian team, and said, 'This is far more special than winning it with anyone else.'

According to preliminary reports from government sources, the late gate opening led to a sudden, unmanageable rush as nearly three lakh people had gathered around the stadium by then—many under the impression that entry would be free. Earlier in the day, news about a victory parade from Vidhana Soudha to Chinnaswamy Stadium had been widely shared by media outlets. KSCA had arranged a ceremonial felicitation at the grand steps of the State Assembly, and in anticipation, approximately 1.5 lakh people had gathered there, while an estimated three lakh assembled near the stadium. India tour of England: Off to England with hopes high

It is understandable considering about 12 months ago Gill was almost dropped from the Test team. He was, in fact, left out of the playing XI for the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne last year. Indian cricket has hit the fast forward button since the 3-1 drubbing they received Down Under, conceding the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. R Ashwin retired mid-tour, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have called it a day in the longest format and Gill is the new India men's Test captain. On Thursday, he was at the BCCI headquarters, alongside head coach Gautam Gambhir addressing the media before leaving for England for the five-Test series. As Gill walks out onto the field in Leeds with the India blazer on for the first Test on June 20, he will not just be a young captain leading a side, but also a team with a very inexperienced batting line-up. They have not yet nailed down the batting order as yet. It will be done after the intra-squad game and ten-day camp before the first game. Among the top five who are expected to play, only KL Rahul has played more than 50 Tests (58). Gill, himself, has played only 32 behind Rishabh Pant (43). In fact, the most experienced batter in the squad would be Ravindra Jadeja (80). Gill, and Gambhir, remain positive with the 18-member team they are taking to England. "I think pressure is there in every tour to win as a team. Definitely, two experienced players who have played in our team for such a long time and won so many matches, it is difficult to fill their space, but as such, there is no different pressure. I think the batting combination and bowling combination with which we are going, the team has a very good mix of experience and talent," Gill said. "It is a five-Test series in England. Everyone is excited. It is another opportunity to do something special for the country. For me, the most exciting thing is that we have got really quality players in the squad who are really willing to go out there and express themselves and do something special," Gambhir added.
