9 best touchscreen-friendly gloves that will also keep your hands warm
Wearing winter gloves while using a touchscreen phone often goes about as smoothly as trying to read a book in the dark: you can't use one without making the other basically obsolete. 'For gloves, there is often a compromise between warmth and function,' says Claire Sturzaker, a travel writer and founder of travel blog Tales of a Backpacker. The trick lies all in the material and structure of the gloves, particularly the fingertips.
To find the best touchscreen-friendly gloves, I spoke with winter apparel experts, including Sturzaker, for their guidance and recommendations.
How I picked the best touchscreen gloves
There are a few important features to consider when choosing gloves that are compatible with touchscreens on phones and tablets. Here's what I kept in mind while curating this list:
Conductive material: Look for touchscreen gloves made of warm insulated fabric, such as fleece or cashmere, that's also thin enough to use with a touchscreen phone, especially the fingertips. 'Gloves should have conductive fingertips (commonly made of metal fibers or conductive synthetic materials) to allow touchscreen use,' says Eric Mooradian, the vice president of product development at online retailer Heat Holders. Some brands refer to this as 'touchscreen conductive' fabric or 'touchscreen compatible' gloves. The fingertips often have a different texture or weave that makes it easier for your phone or tablet to detect your finger. All of the gloves on this list include touchscreen-friendly features, and some also have grips in the palms to keep tech from sliding out of your hand.
Size: 'Look for close-fitting gloves — if they're too big then they won't be as effective,' says Stuzaker. If they're too tight, however, then they're not only uncomfortable, but could restrict the movement of your palm and fingers. The majority of gloves on this list come in at least three different sizes.
Water resistance and absorbency: Depending on how sweaty your palms get, some of that moisture can permeate the gloves and come in contact with your phone, which could potentially affect how well they work. Think about any time you've tried to use your phone with a sweaty or lotion-covered hand — it's usually harder to do. In addition to a fabric that is warm and flexible, you also want one that is absorbent so it can wick sweat from your hands, especially if you plan to run or exercise while wearing them. The gloves on our list also have absorbent properties, according to their brands.
The best touchscreen-friendly gloves
The touchscreen-friendly gloves on this list are either direct recommendations from experts or NBC Select staff, or top-rated options with at least a 4-star average rating from 500 reviews or more on Amazon (or from at least 50 reviews on their respective brand sites). Some of the gloves on this list are also from brands we've written about and tried ourselves.
The Etip Recycled gloves, which have over a 4-star average rating from 996 reviews at The North Face, have touchscreen-friendly fingertips and are made of an elastic fleece material that moves in multiple directions. They also have several silicone dots on the inside of the palms to keep your phone from slipping out of your hands, and the cuffs of the gloves have a clip that keeps the two gloves attached, so one doesn't go missing. They're also available in more sizes than all but one other option on this list.
Also available in men's sizing, these running- and touchscreen-friendly gloves come recommended by NBC Select reporter Zoe Malin, an experienced long-distance runner who says they're 'the best' for all her daily sprints, especially since they snap together, making it easy to not lose them. 'When I run outside in cold weather, I always wear these gloves because they prevent my hands from freezing and let me use my phone thanks to the screen-conductive fabric on the fingers,' she says. 'I can easily check my map, text someone back and change my music.' The fingertips are touchscreen compatible and the thumb is made from an especially absorbent fleece fabric, making it perfect for wiping moisture from the face, according to Lululemon.
The outside of these gloves — which are also equipped with Uniqlo's popular and ultra-warm Heattech fabric on the inside — are made of touchscreen-compatible fabric so you don't have to sacrifice phone calls for warmth, according to the brand. While not fully waterproof, the material on the back of the gloves helps repel outside moisture like rain. The cuffs on the gloves are also elastic and fit securely around the wrists to trap warmth on the hands.
Best touchscreen gloves for winter sports:
Recommended by NBC Select editorial director and avid marathon runner Lauren Swanson, the Vortex Wind Block touchscreen-friendly gloves are versatile and compatible with several winter sports and exercises like running and trekking through snow. 'The inner layer doesn't trap heat as well as other gloves I've tried, but the outer mitten layer adds extra defense against wind,' she says. 'The touchscreen pads on the forefinger and thumb make navigating my phone or Garmin watch seamless.' The gloves themselves are made of a flexible fleece material that wicks sweat and the fingertips have a silicone-pattern texture. The mittens also have a reflective line of tape to help increase visibility in the dark.
Material: polyester | Care: n/a | Size options: 3
These performance fleece gloves from Alo have touchscreen-compatible fingertips, according to the brand. The absorbent fabric also wicks moisture on the back and front of your hands, so you don't have to worry about palm sweat coating your tech. The brand recommends hand-washing in cold water and rolling them in a towel to dry.
These winter gloves, which have a 4.3-star average rating from 59,539 reviews on Amazon, are ideal for using with touchscreen-enabled tech since the fingertips have a sensor-friendly texture, according to the brand, and the palms have multiple silicone spots, making it easy to hold your phone. The rest of the glove, however, is made from soft-knit fabric to keep hands warm, regardless of your activity.
NBC Select commerce editor Lindsay Schneider and I are huge fans of Quince's apparel and bedding, largely because the brand specializes in ultra-soft, high-quality materials like cashmere. These gloves have a 4.7-star average rating from 1,067 reviews at Quince, and are available in more than five muted shades. They have touchscreen-friendly fingertips, long cuffs that you can tuck into your coat or jacket sleeves and a breathable weave, according to the brand.
Best merino wool touchscreen gloves:
Known for helping popularize the soft and warming qualities of merino wool, Smartwool makes some of the best winter accessories, including these thermoregulating, touchscreen-friendly gloves. The gloves fit close to the skin, but are still breathable, and they come with a touchscreen-compatible thumb and index finger, so you can use your phone vertically or horizontally, whether it's to type, scroll, or favorite a video. The gloves have a 4.1-star average rating from 139 reviews at Smartwool.
With a 4.6-star average rating from 62 reviews at REI, these gloves are especially designed to keep hands warm while also making it easy to use a touchscreen device. This is why the palms and fingers have a silicone grip material on them — it allows your phone or tablet to sense your touch or swipe. Made from a blend of wool and polyester, the gloves have tapered cuffs with loops you can use to pull the gloves on.
How to shop for touchscreen-friendly gloves
Besides your lifestyle and budget, there are a few factors to consider when shopping for touchscreen-friendly gloves. Here's what our experts recommend taking into account:
Physical activity
The more you move, the more likely palm sweat can seep through your gloves. If you work out daily or commute on foot, for example, it's especially important to consider gloves that are thin yet warm, while also being absorbent — think cashmere or fleece. Additionally, this means you'll have to wash the gloves more often to prevent staining and odors. Keep in mind that most gloves are best washed by hand, too.
Insulation
Mooradian recommends looking for gloves that mention having an insulated lining on the inside in addition to a touchscreen-conductive material on the outside. If a product is insulated, it helps trap and maintain heat to keep your body warm.

Cordless lawn mower that 'cuts tall grass very easily' now £58 off on Amazon
"Very pleased with this purchase, it is so much lighter than my old petrol mower!' It's officially summer, and with it comes the endless garden tasks need doing much more often during the warmer months. Cutting the grass is a tedious task, but it's one that needs doing, and those looking for a new gadget to get the job done fast are in luck, as a top-rated cordless lawn mower is currently on offer on Amazon. The Worx WG733E 20V 33cm Cordless Brushless Lawn Mower usually retails for £169.99, but Amazon shoppers can get it now on a generous 34 per cent discount for £111.39. With a powerful and efficient brushless motor, this mower boasts a longer runtime than competitive models, according to its description. Its extended motor life with Worx's advanced brushless motor technology helps homeowners cut their grass with high efficiency, for gardens up to 250 metres squared. The innovative cut-to-edge design allows closer cuts along fences, flower beds, and garden borders, minimising the need for extra trimming. Gardeners can choose the appropriate length to cut their grass using the six adjustable height options ranging between 25mm and 75mm. Grass cut height can be easily changed using a single-lever adjustment to suit different lawn conditions and seasonal growth. This mower's high-capacity 35L grass bag with up to 90 per cent collection efficiency reduces how often it needs emptied, making mowing sessions smoother and more efficient. Worx WG733E 20V 33cm Cordless Brushless Lawn Mower £169.99 £111.39 Amazon Shop Product Description Another valuable feature of the garden gadget is its 20V 4.0Ah PowerShare battery that's interchangeable with all Worx 20V, 40V, and 80V tools, which is especially helpful to those who already own some of the brand's products. Those browsing alternative cordless lawn mowers may consider Argos' Spear & Jackson 37cm Cordless Rotary Lawnmower, which is described as 'in demand' on the retailer's website. However, this option comes in at a pricier £216.75, reduced from £255. The retailer also offers the McGregor 34cm Cordless Lawnmower for a cheaper £150, although this still comes in at £40 more than the discounted Worx mower on Amazon, which has been reigning in some very positive reviews. One happy shopper said: "I'm 70 yrs old and very pleased with my new Worx WG927E 40V Cordless Lawnmower & Trimmer. Took me half hour to cut 250m2 with two bars left using 2x 20v 4.0AH so much better than 2x 2.0AH, worth the money. "A bit heavier but cuts very tall grass easily. My old Flymo took me one hour and a bit due to moving around extension cable and carrying cable on shoulder and untangling cable before starting. The strimmer is light weight and cuts better. Worth the money. One hour to charge and your ready." Homewares deal of the week It's time to give the home a spring refresh and Dunelm has launched its massive sale. Back to the Fifi Dining Chair, Dunelm shoppers have awarded the product a 4.5 star rating, with the vast majority of shoppers praising the chairs for their colour and how easy they are to assemble. One delighted shopper wrote: "I really love this chair! They are super comfy and they look great! They were very easy to assemble." With another shopper agreeing: "Lovely comfortable chairs! Waiting for them to come back into stock to order two more!" Buy the Fifi Dining Chairs in the Dunelm sale here. Another happy gardener said: "You won't go wrong with this mower, so quiet and cuts really well, the speed of the motor increases when it comes into contact with thick grass, I have one medium and one small sized lawn, after cutting both the battery's are still half full, recharge back to full in 45 minutes. Very pleased with the product." But another shopper wasn't so happy, saying: "Absolutely a waste of money. Used once after charging batteries. The second use the mower kept stopping saying the batteries were dead but when I checked the status indicator on the battery it showed fully charged. "The mower is underpowered and bogs down on anything lower than the highest setting. Not a good buy." German utility RWE and tech giant Amazon announce partnership
PARIS, June 12 (Reuters) - German utility RWE ( opens new tab and tech giant Amazon (AMZN.O), opens new tab announced a strategic framework agreement on Thursday, where the utility will provide clean power delivery and in exchange receive cloud services. The cloud services cover artificial intelligence and data analytics in exchange for electricity supplied from RWE's wind and solar facilities, some of which are already in operation and some are under construction. RWE is a major utility in Europe with a large portfolio of renewable energy both in operation and in development which it can then sell to Amazon or other data centre hyperscalers to help companies reach green energy targets. The partnership announcement is a start, with ties expected to develop and deepen between the two companies, RWE said. "(The strategic partnership) enables us to focus and look at longer term options in more detail," said Simon Stanton, RWE's head of Global Partnerships and Transactions. These longer-term options include the development of renewables, power purchase agreements, and enabling the build out of AWS's data centre infrastructure, he added. "Advancing digitalization and electrification are also driving up demand for electricity," Chief Commercial Officer of RWE Supply & Trading, Ulf Kerstin, said. "Our competitive portfolio of renewable and flexible energy generation is ideally suited to meet this demand," he added. Amazon has contracted around 1.1 gigawatts of renewable energy across seven power purchase agreements with RWE in the United States, the statement said. RWE's Supply & Trading division has also migrated mission-critical applications to AWS cloud services, including their Energy Trading and Risk Management platform enabling 30% performance improvements with end-of-day runtimes, it said. Going forward Amazon will support RWE's continued innovation in trading, commercial asset optimization including renewables, and energy AI applications, the announcement said. The collaboration will deepen ties to RWE's AI Research Laboratory in Seattle to accelerate the development of advanced AI forecasting models through large computational power and cloud elasticity, it said.

Ryanair, Jet2, TUI and EasyJet hand luggage rules update to avoid airport fees
People jetting off on holiday are being warned to be cautious of hand luggage restrictions as airlines - including Ryanair, EasyJet, Jet2, and TUI - toughen up on baggage checks at the airport. Those caught out with oversized or overweight cases could be hit with fees as steep as £70. Staying one step ahead of extra charges means checking your luggage dimensions before heading to the terminal. While the included hand luggage allowance varies by airline, most tickets do grant a carry-on bag without any added expense. To avoid such airport surprises, the highly-rated FREETOO Luggage Scale is grabbing attention on Amazon for its slashed price of £9.40. Boasting nearly 50,000 reviews with an impressive average of 4.8 out of five stars, this gadget wins points for its accuracy, travel-friendly design, robust strap, and solid build quality. People have praised its accuracy, with a margin of 0.05kg, particularly beneficial to make the most of their luggage limits without going too overboard, reports the Liverpool Echo. But, not everyone is satisfied with their purchase, as one customer claimed: "Not of good quality! Not efficient, it takes a long time to measure." Another reviewer had problems regarding its size and functionality, stating: "Not as big as shown in the catalogue and not working." Travellers with checked-in luggage must be mindful of the specific hand luggage regulations to dodge unexpected charges at the check-in counter. Here's a summary of the key carry-on baggage rules for Ryanair, Jet2, TUI, and EasyJet: Jet2 Jet2 allows each passenger to take one piece of carry-on luggage on board at no extra cost. The item should not weigh more than 10kg and must fit within dimensions of 56 x 45 x 25cm, taking into account any wheels and handles. For instance, the Elements Hard Shell Suitcase from Dunelm, available in the Cabin size (£21, reduced from £30), is an ideal choice. It comes in various hues and has been praised by customers as "absolutely brilliant" and a "bargain", although some have noted that the shell "wasn't thick enough" to protect the contents adequately. Additionally, Jet2 travellers can bring a small personal item like a handbag, which must fit under the seat ahead of them on the aircraft. Those who go over their baggage allowance may be hit with a fee of £12 for every kilogram over the limit. Easyjet EasyJet enforces some of the most stringent hand luggage policies, permitting passengers to carry only a small personal bag on board without charge. Unless they opt for an additional fee to upgrade, holidaymakers are required to pack all their essentials into a 15kg bag with maximum dimensions of 45 x 36 x 20cm, including any wheels and handles, such as the Vancropak Easyjet Cabin Bag (£23.74 on Amazon). EasyJet's £48 excess luggage fee is one of the highest among the major budget airlines, so passengers will want to avoid any unexpected costs. One option that fits these dimensions is the Aerolite Lightweight on Amazon (£37.34), which shoppers have said is "robust" and "packed a lot in", but did have issues with "stiff wheels" and "broken zips". Ryanair Ryanair is well-known for its luggage restrictions, and passengers are often asked to place their bags in a measuring crate to ensure they comply with the airline's requirements. Those flying with Ryanair are limited to a small personal bag no larger than 40 x 20 x 25cm, like this £20.98 backpack available on Amazon. Passengers have the option to pay extra for Priority Boarding, which allows them to carry an additional 10kg hand luggage bag with dimensions up to 55 x 40 x 20cm. Primark sells a £25 8-Wheel Hard Shell Underseat Suitcase in either black or gold, which went viral among Ryanair passengers on TikTok. Ryanair passengers whose bags exceed these limits could face a charge of £48 per hand luggage bag or £70 if your 10kg suitcase is oversized. You can find more information about Ryanair's extra fees here. TUI For those flying with TUI, a 10kg bag is allowed on board as standard. The permitted dimensions for TUI's hand luggage are 55 x 40 x 20cm, close to the size of the World's Lightest 4 Wheel Soft Cabin Suitcase, which is now available for £22.50 at Argos, down from £45. One satisfied customer praised the case: "Nice and spacious and lightweight suitcase. Able to fit quite a lot, so good if you're planning on taking or bringing back lots of things on holiday, etc Would definitely recommend. I've been using it luggage for over 15 years, can't go wrong." While another added: "Good purchase, good value for money, holds lots and very lightweight." An third put: "I LOVE the colour. It's a bright turquoise (much nicer in real life than on the screen in my opinion) and honestly makes me so happy to travel with it. But, someone claimed: "One of the wheels wore through and broke after only a couple of uses. Not very robust." And another shared: "It is absolutely not practical to use." Regarding carry-on policies, people are allowed a small personal item such as a handbag or briefcase that has to fit under the seat upfront. However, TUI package holiday goers receive at least a 20kg check-in luggage allowance. Luggage heavier than a passenger's hand luggage allowance without a checked baggage inclusion will face TUI's excess baggage charge of £14 to £18 per additional kilo, influenced by the length of the flight.
