Dream come true for Ayrshire youngster after being cast in Les Misérables
Niamh Lee will take to the stage as Little Cosette in Les Misérables at The King's Theatre in Glasgow from April 23 until April, 27.
Kilmarnock's own Niamh Lee is looking forward to captivating audiences once again, having been cast as Little Cosette in the huge upcoming production of Les Misérables at The King's Theatre this week.
In collaboration with Pantheon Theatre Glasgow, Glasgow Light Opera Club (GLOC), PMOS, and Theatre South Productions (TSP), The Lyric Club is thrilled to present Boublil & Schönberg's legendary musical, 'Les Misérables' as part of the nationwide 'Let The People Sing' project celebrating 40 years of this iconic show.
The project will see 11 community-wide productions of Les Misérables mounted across the UK, with the Scottish performances at The King's Theatre from April 23 until April 27.
Based on Victor Hugo's timeless novel, Les Misérables tells a powerful story of love, redemption, and revolution, set against the turmoil of post-revolutionary France.
And 10-year-old Niamh describes working on Les Misérables as "a dream come true".
Niamh has been attracting national attention following her starring lead role as Annie at The King's Theatre in January 2025, where critics and audiences alike hailed her performance as "exceptional and captivating".
Niamh is the youngest of three talented sisters, all of whom share a love for performing. But even among such a creative household, her passion has always been evident.
From a young age, she showed an incredible ability to express deep emotion through song and dance — a skill that has set her apart in the competitive world of musical theatre.
Niamh trains and rehearses tirelessly to hone her craft, attending Take A Bow in Kilmarnock and Janice Marshall Stage School in Irvine, where she has developed her singing, dancing, and acting skills.
Les Misérables production brings together an exceptional calibre of performers, some of whom have worked on West End and UK touring productions, making this an incredible learning experience for the young actress.
One of the most exciting surprises for Niamh has been meeting her chaperone, who happens to be a very talented professional singer Niamh used to admire and follow online.
What started as starstruck fan admiration has now blossomed into a genuine and special friendship, and Niamh feels incredibly lucky to have such a supportive and inspiring mentor during this process.
She said: "The whole cast are just amazing.
"Everyone is so talented, and they've been so kind to me.
"I'm learning so much from them, and I feel so lucky to be part of this show. Hearing them at rehearsals is amazing, and I can't wait for the audiences to see this show."
Niamh is especially excited to perform in Les Misérables as it is her beloved papa's favourite musical.
She said: "I've grown up listening to my papa and then my big sisters sing the great songs from Les Mis and so to now be a part of this show is really exciting.
"I enjoy all the songs and just love singing them at home and in the car. I know my papa will be supporting me all the way and singing along with me in the audience as he knows every single word."
Her parents Kristine and Barry, expressed their gratitude for the love and support Niamh has received.
Barry said: "The encouragement from everyone has been incredible once again."
"After the success of Annie, and the huge support Niamh received during that period, people have been very kindly reaching out from all over, and it means the world to us and to Niamh.
"Niamh is just loving every minute of another incredible experience, and we are very proud of her hard work and commitment to the many hours of rehearsals.
"She is surrounded by a truly exceptional team and cast and is very lucky to have the opportunity.
"Les Misérables is the world's longest-running show for a reason – it's a true heavyweight musical, and we are all looking forward to taking our seats and enjoying the show this week, it promises to be very special."
Amid the excitement of her latest role, Niamh has also taken time to honour the memory of her beloved ballet teacher, Miss Katie, who sadly passed away last year.
Niamh said: "Miss Katie always believed in us.
"She encouraged me and my sisters to be our best and always cheered us on. I know she's watching, still cheering me on just like she always did."
Her family echoed this sentiment, adding that Miss Katie's encouragement was instrumental in shaping and nurturing Niamh's love for performance from a young age.
The dedication and passion that Miss Katie instilled in her young dancers lives on in Niamh's performances today.

She starred in a hit BBC drama alongside future household names Andrew Lincoln and Jack Davenport, but these days, BAFTA-winning actress Daniela Nardini is a qualified and practising psychotherapist. The Scottish actress originally played ambitious lawyer Anna Forbes in the BBC Two series This Life, which first aired in 1996. Its story followed the fortunes of law graduates and housemates as they attempted to launch their careers in a London law firm. Anna starred opposite future Walking Dead star Andrew Lincoln and Pirates of the Caribbean actor Jack Davenport, along with Amita Dhiri and Jason Hughes. The show received a second series in 1997, followed by a sequel TV movie in 2007 titled This Life +10. Daniela, 57, won great acclaim (and a Bafta!) for her role as Anna, but these days spends her time running her own CBT practice in Glasgow, Scotland. Prior to scoring her breakthrough role in This Life, Daniela appeared in three episodes of Scottish crime drama Taggart. She was on the verge of giving up acting when she was cast as Anna in This Life – a role for which she won the first of two BAFTAs. 'That character made such an impact. We hadn't really seen many young women like that portrayed on television. I don't think people of my generation have ever really let go of that,' she told the BBC in 2020. The second BAFTA followed in 2009, for her performance in the BBC Four drama New Town. She went on to appear in episodes of Vera, Waterloo Road, The Fades, and Bob Servant Independent, with her last credited acting role coming in 2019, with the short film Duck Daze. Taking a break from acting, she went on to become a practising artist while studying for her future career as a mental health professional. These days, Daniela's life is quite different – working as a qualified and practising psychotherapist at her own CBT practice. At £50 a session, her top specialities include Depression, Anxiety and Behavioural Issues, as well as other issues, such as Cancer, Divorce and Addiction. Her profile on Psychology Today begins: 'I have worked as an actress for over 35 years. 'This has been an invaluable education for me to study what it is to be human and how we can all suffer at times and feel misunderstood and lonely. 'I myself have struggled at times. My practice involves helping you gain insight, clarity and believe it or not humour at times. I don't shock easily so I won't judge.' These struggles include the death of her father in 2015, followed by a divorce and her cancer diagnosis in 2018. In 2020, she told The Daily Mail how she had endured 'the worst five years of her life,' adding: 'I went through a very dark period. Sometimes I wonder if it was all the emotional stuff I was going through that caused my cancer.' 'A couple of years down the road, I now feel as if I've emerged stronger and a better person, really. Anna would be proud.' While Daniela decided to 'take a break' from acting, her co-stars from the show are keeping their hands in. After starring as Jason Hughes, Warren Jones went on to star opposite John Nettles in Midsomer Murders for eight series before appearing in episodes of Death in Paradise and Marcella. The 28-year-old Scottish star is believed to be taking the 'Secret Set' slot on Friday night of the music festival, following Canadian legend Alanis Morrisette. In one of the most notable moments in the festival's history, the crowd performed his hit Someone You Loved completely in his place, prompting the star to become emotional at the show of unity. As he finished his set, performing Hold Me While You Wait, he told the crowd: 'Glastonbury, I'm really sorry. I'm a bit annoyed with myself.' But the crowd replied by cheering him on by chanting "Oh Lewis Capaldi". Shortly after the set, Lewis said: 'I wanted to come back and to do Glastonbury because it is so incredible, so I just wanted to thank you all for coming out and watching us. 'I'll be back as soon as I possibly can." Tourette's syndrome is a neurological condition that makes someone make involuntary 'tics' including rapid movements and noises, at times making them struggle to speak. Lewis tracked his diagnosis in a Netflix documentary, How I'm Feeling Now, showing how much it affects his life on a day-to-day basis. The film was released shortly before his Glasto appearance. In October last year, Lewis was overheard discussing new music and a potential new album down the pub with mates, sparking hope he was ready to perform again. In May this year, Lewis made his return to the stage alongside Tom Walker for a guest spot at a show for mental health CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) at Assembly Halls in Edinburgh. Fans of the music legend gathered at the Meadows Festival yesterday to celebrate the 1978 song. The first event was held twelve years ago in Brighton when British performance group Shambush came up with the idea in 2013. And this year, people came together to recreate the dance in the song's iconic video in Scotland's capital city. Music fans of all ages dressed in gorgeous, bright red dresses similar to the one that Kate wore in the original video. And many beamed as they were taught the same dance moves while music played in the background. Many women wore long red dresses with black belts, and little girls wore matching outfits and red jumpers with red hairpieces. Some men were even spotted wearing red dresses as well as they got in on the action. The event started at 4pm, giving performers time to get checked in, fix their outfits and collect merchandise before a welcome at 4.30pm. A warm-up then started at 4.35pm before the dance was taught ten minutes later. After a quick water break, the dance started at 5.10pm and attendees performed it twice before posing for a group photo. It read: "Welcome to The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever – Edinburgh 2025! "Get ready to dress up in your best red dress and join us for a fun-filled afternoon of dancing and celebrating the iconic music video by Kate Bush. "The event will take place on Saturday, June 7, at 4.30pm as part of the programme at the Meadows Festival. INSTANTLY CAPITVATED KATE Bush wrote her chart-topping song Wuthering Heights whe she was just 18 years old. The hit song was her debut single and became an unexpected number one hit almost 50 years ago back in 1978. It was actually the first song that was written and performed by a female artist to reach the UK top spot. Despite the song being named after Emily Brontë's novel, it wasn't the book itself that inspired Kate, now 66, to write the song. In an interview in 1978, she told the BBC that the broadcaster's 1967 TV series of the story is what gave her the idea. Kate explained that she came across an episode of the telly adaptation and was blown away by it's startling imagery. At the time, she said: "I just managed to catch the very last few minutes where there was a hand coming through the window and blood everywhere and glass. "And I just didn't know what was going on, and someone explained the story." "Let's come together as a community and recreate the magic of the Wuthering Heights dance. "Don't miss out on this unforgettable experience!" Pictures and videos of the event have been widely shared on social media, and many flocked to the comments to praise the dancers. One person said: "Wish I was there... great!" Another added: "Omg, I wish I'd been there!" Someone else wrote: "Love it! Well done". And a fourth posted: "That's pretty cool!" While a fifth chimed in: "Wow, this looks fabulous! Well done".
