Cathie Wood's 50% ARKK Rebound Hits a Big Wall of Skepticism

Cathie Wood's flagship ETF has staged a powerful comeback from the depths of the trade war panic, rallying more than 50% since early April. But rather than restoring investor faith, the rebound has only been met with skepticism. Outflows are persistent. Short sellers are circling in record numbers, driven by bearish conviction and tactical hedging. And a booming class of retail-friendly products — leveraged exchange-traded funds — are competing with Wood's strategy of making high-conviction bets on famous tech names.

WhatsApp hosting ads for first time

WhatsApp is rolling out ads on parts of the popular Meta-owned social media and messaging platform, the company said Monday in an unveiling that heavily stressed user privacy will remain protected. 'Like everything we do at WhatsApp, we've built these features in the most private way possible,' WhatsApp developers wrote in a blog post explaining the new feature. 'No one outside of the chat, not even WhatsApp, can see, hear or share personal messages, calls or statuses,' they added. 'This means that none of this info can be used to show people ads.' The advertisements will appear on the messaging app's 'updates' tab in status and channel feeds and will not affect users who only use the program for direct chats and calls, according to the company. 'The personal messaging experience on WhatsApp isn't changing, and personal messages, calls and statuses are end-to-end encrypted and cannot be used to show ads,' developers reiterated. More than 1.5 billion people click on the WhatsApp update tab each day, data shows. This creates a potentially lucrative, previously untapped revenue stream for Meta, which also owns Facebook and Instagram, among other prominent platforms. 'We're encouraged by the enthusiasm and also want to help admins, organizations and businesses grow on WhatsApp,' the company said. Ads may be targeted based on a user's general location, age, activities shared in their status posts and the channels they follow. WhatsApp also informed users that information they opt to share across Meta platforms may also be used, it noted.

How Bears' Cole Kmet is helping rookie Colston Loveland

Chicago Bears rookie tight end Colston Loveland has been waiting to get back on the football field after shoulder surgery back in January. But he's remained involved in meeting rooms and as an observer, where he's already leaning on his veteran teammates. That includes tight end Cole Kmet, entering his sixth season with Chicago, who has served as a sounding board and mentor for the Bears' top rookie throughout the offseason program. Advertisement "All the tight ends have been super helpful, but Cole, that's a vet right there," Loveland said. "[He] does everything the right way. Really good at football; really good mentally, really good physically. He's a great guy to look up to, and he's been very [helpful] … If I run a route or do something, he'll tell me some things, how he sees it, some coverage things, or whatever it may be. He's been super helpful and I'm very appreciative." Kmet previously discussed his approach to mentoring Loveland, where he reflected back on his time as a rookie with Jimmy Graham in that leadership role, as well as sharing his experiences with Loveland. Head coach Ben Johnson has sang Loveland's praises for how he's managed to stay involved from a mental standpoint as he remains unable to get on the field with the rest of the team. Loveland has spent the offseason immersing himself in the playbook as he aims to build those mental reps. The good news is Loveland is expected to be ready for training camp next month, and the team will finally get a glimpse at what Loveland and Kmet can do as a dynamic 1-2 punch on offense.
