Blackhawks retain F Ryan Donato with four-year, $16M deal
June 19 - Chicago Blackhawks forward Ryan Donato signed a four-year, $16 million contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.
Donato, 29, could have become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, but instead chose to sign a deal through the 2028-29 season with Chicago.
Last season, Donato led the Blackhawks with a career-best 31 goals in 80 games. His 31 assists and 62 points were also career highs.
"Ryan brings energy and competes hard every game, which has been a huge asset to our team over the last two seasons," Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said in a statement. "He's been a crucial part of our offense, and we're excited for Ryan to continue to make a difference in our lineup for the next four years."
Donato, an eight-year veteran, has 43 goals in two seasons with the Blackhawks. He had never scored more than 31 points in a season until doubling that output last season.
Donato has 108 goals and 119 assists in 483 games with the Boston Bruins, Minnesota Wild, San Jose Sharks, Seattle Kraken and Blackhawks.

WASHINGTON, June 18 (Reuters) - Juventus coach Igor Tudor thought his team were heading in the right direction after playing some brilliant football to beat Emirati side Al-Ain 5-0 in their Club World Cup opener on Wednesday. Tudor took over from Thiago Motta in March in the midst of a disappointing campaign after Juve had exited all cup competitions. He helped the club finish fourth in Serie A to secure a return to the Champions League next year. WHY IT'S IMPORTANT: Juventus are one of the biggest clubs in the world with expectations of success every season but won the last of their 36 Serie A titles in 2020. They are also without a major international trophy for over two decades and the revamped Club World Cup gives them an opportunity to change that. Man City's Phil Foden keen to prove doubters wrong after ‘difficult season'
Phil Foden is determined 'to prove people wrong' and bounce back from a frustrating 2024-25 campaign. The star player as Manchester City won a fourth successive Premier League title the season before last, Foden lost his spark amid an underwhelming team performance. But now feeling refreshed after a short break, the 25-year-old shone as City kicked off their challenge at the Club World Cup with a comfortable 2-0 win over Wydad Casablanca in Philadelphia on Wednesday. Foden opened the scoring after just two minutes against the Moroccans and then delivered the corner from which Jeremy Doku claimed the second just before the break. For the England international it was an immediate justification of his decision to sit out the recent internationals to prepare for this summer's tournament in the United States. Foden said: 'It was a difficult season. I'm not going to lie, it was not the best. 'But I got a little bit of time off, rested. New start, new me. Just looking forward to the season. 'The hunger inside me is back and I want to prove people wrong.' Having represented England at Euro 2024, Foden says he 'can't remember' the last time he had a significant spell of rest. 'Not a lot of footballers these days get much time off, so it was very important,' he said. 'I struggled to switch off completely but I just rested with the family, did my own thing and stuff. I needed it.' Foden, playing a deeper role than usual, was instrumental in a side featuring two debutants in Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki.
