Nawaz leaves for London for medical check-up
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif left for London on Sunday for a medical check-up, party sources confirmed.
Sharif departed from his residence in Jati Umra and boarded a special flight from Lahore's Old Airport.
According to party insiders, the former premier will remain in the UK, during which he is expected to undergo a comprehensive medical examination.
Nawaz Sharif is likely to stay in London for two weeks and will celebrate Eid-ul-Azha in London.

Eid reunions for divorced families begin
Special Eid reunions have begun in the District Courts, allowing divorced parents to meet their estranged children with the permission of family courts. Divorced mothers, fathers, grandparents, aunts, and uncles have started meeting their separated children at Judicial Complex Facilitation Centres. In the past two days, 168 divorced families have reunited with their children for special Eid visits, which will continue today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday). These meetings had been emotionally charged, with tearful scenes witnessed. Mothers and fathers brought special Eid gifts for their children, including garments, shoes, bicycles, toys, clothing, artificial jewellery, makeup items, and dolls. Children also received cash "Eidi." Each child was allowed up to two and a half hours of reunion time. Most of the children live with the other parent following the parents' remarriage. Along with mothers, grandparents, aunts, and uncles also participated in the visits. After the meetings, many mothers parted from their children with tearful eyes. Every year during Eid, family judges arrange special meetings between children and their parents. One father, Faisal Rasheed, shared his thoughts, saying: "I divorced my wife due to family disputes; we have two children. I have remarried, and the children live with their mother. I deeply regret it now and miss the kids terribly. I urge all families involved in court disputes to withdraw their cases and live happily with their children, or else they will regret it. Divorce has negative impacts on children, especially daughters, whose marriages face challenges that are hard to describe." Zeeshan, an official at the court facilitation centre, said they provide meeting arrangements as per court orders and ensure meetings end on time. Two children, Rania and Arslan, expressed their joy, saying, "We are very happy today. It's been four months since we last saw our father. We received lots of toys, clothes, shoes, a bicycle, and cash. Eid should come every month so we can keep getting nice clothes, money, and toys."

Dust storm, rain in upper parts predicted
LAHORE: The Met Office has predicted that moist currents are penetrating the north-eastern parts of the country and a westerly wave is also likely to approach upper parts on June 3. Under the influence of this weather system, dust storm/rain-thunder (isolated heavy falls/hailstorm) are expected in Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan and Abbottabad from June 2-5 with occasional gaps. Dust storm/rain-thunder (isolated heavy falls/hailstorm) are also expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, Bannu, Karak and Waziristan on June 3 and 4 (evening/night) with occasional gaps. Dust storm is also expected in southern Punjab during the period. Meanwhile, rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected on Eid-Ul-Adha in Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan and Mansehra from 07th (evening/night) to 09th June. So far as possible impacts are concerned, the Met Office has highlighted that windstorm/dust-thunderstorm/hailstorm/lightning may damage loose structures like electric poles, trees, vehicles and solar panels etc in upper/central parts including Islamabad. Farmers are advised to manage their crop activities keeping in view the weather conditions. General public, travellers and tourists are advised to take precautionary measures during the weather activity. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has also advised all concerned authorities to remain 'ALERT' and take necessary measures to avoid any untoward situation. 'Nursing hospitals not meeting standards'
A parliamentary panel was told on Monday that fifteen medical colleges were registered without any inspection during the PTI's rule while none of the 55 nursing colleges recently visited by the health secretary were eligible for accreditation. Minister of State for National Health Services Dr Malik Mukhtar Ahmad Bharath informed the National Assembly Standing Committee on National Health that 55 nursing colleges were recently visited. "According to the report [submitted by the health secretary], not a single college was found eligible for accreditation. A detailed report is being prepared by the Pakistan Nursing Council," he added. During the committee meeting, chaired by Mahesh Malani, Abdul Qadir Patel authorized Dr Shazia Sobia to discuss the Pharmacy Bill on his behalf. Patel said as soon as the PPP came into power, it transferred the authority related to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) to the provinces so they could conduct their own tests. "However, the provinces were not prepared at the time, which is why tests could not be conducted immediately. We want the provinces to carry out their own enlistments," he said. The committee chairman referred to the complaints from students of Al-Nafees Medical College regarding non-registration. Dr Bharath reiterated that 15 medical colleges were registered during the PTI's term without inspection, and their cases have been sent to the Federal Investigation Agency. The executive director of the National Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine (NIRM) told the panel that the institute had now started surgeries for correcting clubfoot in children. "NIRM has a medical budget of Rs40 million, which is very low. Due to this, patients often have to purchase medicines. However, we ensure that epilepsy medications are never out of stock," he said. The committee expressed concerns over the inadequate medicine budget and emphasized that it should be increased. It announced plans to visit the institute and make recommendations to the government. In Punjab, medicines are provided free of charge through the health cards system but even poor patients in some areas are forced to purchase them. It was suggested that Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal should be used to provide medicines to deserving patients. RAYZA KHAN
