Stanley Cup Final Game 5 facts and questions for Panthers vs. Oilers, tied 2-2
Saturday's Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final rematch between the Panthers and Edmonton Oilers could be the pivotal game of this series. Or, it could be just another turbulent classic that leaves puckheads sweating, gasping and asking 'When's Game 6?' Here's what you need to know. ▪ What's the deal: The teams will be in Edmonton's Rogers Place for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final with series tied 2-2 after the Oilers won Game 4 in overtime. TV game time is 8 p.m. on TNT, truTV, HBO Max as well as streaming outlets. ▪ What's at stake: The winner gets a 3-2 series lead in the best-of-7 series and will have the opportunity to win the Stanley Cup in Sunrise during Tuesday's Game 6. Since the 1967 expansion from the NHL's six-team era, when a Stanley Cup Final is tied 2-2, the Game 5 winner also won the series 11 of 16 times. ▪ Advice for fans: Keep the cafetera ready to make some cafe Cubano for yourself or your watch party. Three of the four games have gone into overtime, two after tying goals in the last 20 seconds of regulation. ▪ Key question for Edmonton: Will Calvin Pickard start in goal after Stuart Skinner got yanked in Games 3 and 4? In both cases, Skinner didn't play badly. In fact, he did well to not give up more goals while the Oilers, by their own admission, flat stunk in front of him. But, Pickard's 7-0 in these playoffs with a better goals against average (2.69) and save percentage (.896) compared to Skinner (2.99, .891) and only lost his job to injury in the second round. ▪ Key question for the Panthers: Did blowing a 3-0 lead and losing Game 4 in overtime shake the psychological equilibrium that's allowed them to surf successfully the wins and wipeouts over the last three years of NHL playoffs and make three Stanley Cup Finals. ▪ Key question for both teams: Can they keep up this series' breathless pace after a a 2,500-mile flight sucks up the lone off day before Game 5? Both coaches, who have been in Stanley Cup Finals before and in hockey their whole lives, remarked on the pace, physicality, the quality of hockey from board battles to open ice skill plays. 'I think [experience and conditioning] all those play a factor, but there's an excitement for both teams that will build as you get toward the end. It's a grinder,' Panthers coach Paul Maurice said. 'So, you actually find more energy toward the end of a series because there's not another one after this.'

Caitlin Clark to return from injury for Fever-Liberty rematch Saturday
After missing three weeks with a quad injury, Caitlin Clark will return Saturday for the Indiana Fever against the New York Liberty, the team announced Friday. The Fever host the Liberty for the second time this season; Clark injured her quad during the first game, a 90-88 loss on May 24. 'She's working her way back, I feel like today was better than yesterday in terms of movement, balance,' coach Stephanie White said after practice Friday. Advertisement White also said forward Sophie Cunningham is probable to return Saturday. Cunningham has been out since May 30 with an ankle injury. Clark missed five games with the injury, the first of her professional career. Indiana has gone 2-3 in her absence, including two losses to projected lottery teams, Washington and Connecticut. The arrival of backup point guard Aari McDonald on a hardship contract helped stem the tide, but the Fever struggled to be competitive in their latest 77-58 defeat to Atlanta. Nevertheless, they have risen from eighth to seventh in the WNBA standings during this stretch. 'There was imaging done to tell that my leg is okay … so I can find confidence in that that we know we weren't able to find anything or see anything, and that was kind of my all clear,' Clark said. 'Then honestly, just sprinting. As you know, change of direction and sprinting in the game of basketball, that's the biggest part of it. So, feeling comfortable to be able to do those types of things and those types of movements. I've been doing that for a little bit now, and I feel really confident in that.' Advertisement Clark's star status continues to drive ticket sales; according to data from Vivid Seats, tickets to Saturday's game against the Liberty are now 35 percent more in demand relative to the first Indiana game against New York, where Clark suffered her injury. As of publication, the average price for Clark's return is $276. Saturday's game against New York is Indiana's penultimate Commissioner's Cup contest. The Fever need a win (and more results to go their way Tuesday) to pass the Liberty in the cup standings and earn the Eastern Conference bid to the final. As the Fever shore up their rotation with the returns of Clark and Cunningham, they are expected to be without veteran DeWanna Bonner against New York, who has been away from the team for personal reasons. Indiana released McDonald from her hardship contract Friday, as the team now has ten active players without her. In her four games this season, Clark is averaging 19.0 points and 9.3 assists per game while shooting uncharacteristically low from 3-point range and the foul line (31.4 percent and 75 percent, respectively). Cunningham has chipped in 6.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Advertisement This article originally appeared in The Athletic. Fever star Caitlin Clark returns from quad injury ahead of Liberty matchup
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark is back in the lineup after the WNBA star was sidelined for five consecutive games with a quad injury, the team announced on social media Friday. The 2024 Rookie of the Year sustained a strained quadriceps during the Fever's 90-88 loss to the New York Liberty on May 24. She was initially projected to miss two weeks, but Saturday's return against the Liberty will mark three weeks. "She's back," the Fever announced with a post on Instagram. "Caitlin Clark is ready to play tomorrow against New York." Fever head coach Stephanie White said Monday the team was ready for Clark to start "ramping back up," but she did not say if Clark was cleared yet for basketball activities. White later added on Thursday that Clark and Sophie Cunningham, who's been sidelined since May 30, had "limited" reps during practice. Clark was averaging 19 points, 9.3 assists and six rebounds in four games this season. Her return comes as the Liberty have remained hot with a 9-0 record. They remain undefeated against Eastern Conference opponents and head to Indiana fresh off a 85-66 win against the Chicago Sky where Sabrina Ionescu dropped 23 points. White also said Friday that she expects Cunningham to return to the lineup this weekend. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.
