Woman who faked royal marriage cert facing arrest for skipping court case

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court today issued a warrant of arrest for a woman who failed to appear to face charges of uploading a falsified marriage certificate of her and a member of a royal family on TikTok.
The warrant was issued by judge Norma Ismail after she granted an application by deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Amir Hanif Ahijman.
Amir Haniff said he was informed by the case's investigating officer that the person to be charged, named Persana Avril Sollunda, 43, was not present in court despite having been notified to attend.
"The investigating officer had applied for a summons for court attendance from the Kuala Lumpur magistrate's court against Persana compelling her to attend court today to answer the charges.
"Persana had personally received the summons on April 29.
"Despite this, she did not attend court today, so I am requesting the issuance of an arrest warrant," he said.
Norma set June 19 for mention of the arrest warrant.
The summons, which compelled Persana to appear at the Sessions Court today, was issued by the magistrate's court on April 22.
The summons, sighted by the New Straits Times, showed Persana has an address in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, and she had put down her name, MyKad number, signature and the April 29 date on the document as acknowledgement.
Sources said Persana faces charges under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act for using a communication service of false nature by uploading a falsified marriage certificate with the intention to annoy others on a TikTok account in February this year.
The posting was read by investigators at the Cyber Crime and Multimedia Investigation Division at Bukit Aman's Commercial Crime Investigation Department.
In March, Persana was detained for questioning by investigators from the Kota Kinabalu police headquarters Criminal Investigation Department but was released after.

Senior citizen claims trial for physical assault on teen

MELAKA: A senior citizen suffering from a bout of ailments claimed trial at the Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh here to a charge of committing physical sexual assault on a 14-year-old girl. The 70-year-old accused entered the plea after the charge was read out before Judge Haderiah Siri on Monday (June 9). According to the charge sheet, the accused allegedly committed physical sexual assault on the teenager some two years ago. The offence was said to have been committed at a house in Taman Tay Boon Seng, Klebang, here at about 2pm in early February 2023. The charge was framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. If convicted, the accused can face a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping. World's top TikToker Khaby Lame detained by US immigration for overstaying visa

LOS ANGELES, June 8 — US immigration agents detained and later allowed the 'voluntary departure' of the world's most-followed TikToker, Khaby Lame, after he 'overstayed' his visa, authorities said yesterday. 'US Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Seringe Khabane Lame, 25, a citizen of Italy, June 6, at the Harry Reid International Airport, Las Vegas, Nevada for immigration violations,' the agency said in a statement to AFP. Lame entered the United States on April 30 and 'overstayed the terms of his visa,' the statement said of the Friday detention, adding that he was released the same day. The Italian national, who is a Unicef goodwill ambassador and has a following of more than 162 million on TikTok, 'has since departed the US.' Lame had not immediately posted publicly about the incident as of Saturday afternoon. Since taking power in January, US President Donald Trump has delivered on campaign promises to tighten immigration controls and carry out a mass deportation drive—aspects of which have been challenged in US courts. Lame holds top spot on the wildly popular TikTok social media app, with 162.2 million followers and has risen to fame for his short silent videos mocking the convoluted tutorials and tips that abound on the internet. He punctuates his videos with a trademark gesture—palms turned towards the sky, accompanied by a knowing smile and wide eyes—as he offers his own simple remedies. The idea for his content came to him while wandering around the housing project where his family lived in Chivasso, near Turin, after losing his factory mechanic's job in March 2020. His posts took off—helping him gross an estimated U$16.5 million through marketing deals with companies in the period between June 2022 and September 2023, according to Forbes. — AFP
