The
Tampa Bay Lightning
will enter a new paradigm of fan engagement during Season 2025-26. Shadowed by the conventional paywalls and cable barriers, local game broadcasts for the entire slate of local games, with the likes of
Steven Stamkos
and
Andrei Vasilevskiy
going to be made free for the regional fans. This transformation is thus going to take a step toward a bigger-scale democratization for proud supporters scattered all over Tampa Bay, in parallel with the shift we observe now in how professional teams deliver live content in modern times.

Tampa Bay Lightning is moving its new multi-year partnership with Scripps Sports to broadcast WXPX-TV all preseason, regular season, and first-round playoff games that are not televised nationally, rebranded as "The Spot -
Tampa Bay
66." The channel will be unveiled on July 1, 2025, and will show Lightning broadcasts along with news and entertainment programming. Such an arrangement makes it possible for every fan residing in the Tampa-St. Petersburg locale to witness local games of the team over the air, free of charge.

For the digitally inclined, the Lightning will work with ViewLift, so the team's official mobile app will provide the streamers with a greatly intuitive streaming environment. This digital solution will be made available all over the team's local broadcast territory and will include any games produced locally and behind-the-scenes content. The hybrid free TV & app-based streaming model means fans can watch Steven Stamkos captain the offense or Andrei Vasilevskiy perform another stellar effort away from home, be it at work or just out there on the go.
Veteran broadcast stalwarts Dave Randorf, Brian Engblom, and Gabby Shirley will continue to be the familiar voices and faces of Lightning telecasts. In addition, the production team will be creating original, co-produced content with an even more personal and exclusive take on the players' stories and personalities in creating a more rewarding viewing experience.
It is a win for the fans and, at the same time, pushes the team toward innovation and accessibility. In fact, with Scripps Sports also having similar NHL deals with teams like the Florida Panthers and Vegas Golden Knights, this could well be a model that fundamentally transforms regional sports broadcasting.

At the same time, the entire team was preparing a surprise in a room in the facility. Yanni Gourde signs long-term contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning
Yanni Gourde Yanni Gourde recently made the headlines when he signed a six-year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning. With his last contract getting over, he would have become an unrestricted free agent from the 1st of July. However, he signed a deal with the Lightning that marked his first long-term contract. This comes after Gourde spent three and a half seasons playing with the Kraken. Yanni Gourde signs a contract worth $13 million with the Lightning Yanni Gourde signed a six-year contract worth $13.98 million, with an average annual value of $2.33 million. He will be a part of the Tampa Bay Lightning till he reaches the age of 39. In the last season, Gourde had a total of 31 points with seven goals and 24 assists in a total of 57 games. Additionally, he has also won the Stanley Cup back in 2020 and 2021, when the Tampa Bay Lightning won consecutively. With the Kraken, Gourde was considered a strong player in the bottom six, providing stability in defense and additional offense as required. However, he began suffering from injuries towards the end of his term. Back in January, he had undergone surgery for a sports hernia and had to miss two months of matches during the regular season. Therefore, Kraken wanted to avoid the uncertainty that came with signing him. Additionally, his previous contract ensured that his annual earnings were at $5.17 million, but the new deal comes in at less than half of his previous earnings. In an earlier interview back in March 2025, Gourde had shared that he was excited to play with the Lightning. He shared, "You always let your mind wonder if it could be possible. But yeah, this is awesome. I'm super excited to join this team and win some games." Also Read: Jon Cooper will remain with the Tampa Bay Lightning following the playoff disaster When it comes to his personal life, Gourde tied the knot with Marie-Andree in a private ceremony back in 2015. The duo met in 2009 when he played junior hockey. They now share two daughters, Emma, born in 2018, and Demi Davis, born in 2022.

How Andrei Vasilevskiy became the most feared goalie in hockey
Andrei Vasilevskiy #88 of the Tampa Bay Lightning (Credit: Getty Image) Growing up in Tyumen, a Siberian city with long winters. Vasilevskiy had early access to ice and an inherited drive for the game, and his father, a goaltender in Russia's top league, offered the foundation. While many young athletes chase attention, Vasilevskiy stayed quiet, focused more on the crease than the spotlight. That approach defined his early years in the Russian junior leagues. Salavat Yulaev Ufa was his stepping stone. The competition there was intense, but he learned fast. Reflexes sharpened, and decision-making improved under pressure, by 2012, his maturity. Also the skill caught the attention of the Tampa Bay Lightning, who drafted him 19th overall. Adapting to new systems and faster ice View this post on Instagram A post shared by ColorsTV (@colorstv) The move to North America was a major shift. He had to adjust not just to a new language but to a faster, more physical game. In Tampa, Vasilevskiy trained under Ben Bishop, who became an informal mentor. That period was more than a transition, it was a transformation. His frame, already imposing, became a wall. But what stood out was his patience in the goal. He didn't overreact. By 2018, he wasn't just a starter, he was elite. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The Vezina Trophy that season confirmed it. Playoff stages and moments of composure Andrei Vasilevskiy #88 of the Tampa Bay Lightning (Credit: Getty Image) The Lightning's Stanley Cup wins in 2020 and 2021 solidified Vasilevskiy's legacy. His performance in those playoffs was more than numbers, it was presence. He delivered shutouts when needed and rose to the moment when others tensed. The Conn Smythe Trophy was a result of consistency. Behind it was preparation, film study, and understanding opponents' patterns. That work wasn't always visible, but it mattered. Staying grounded as expectations grow Despite fame, Vasilevskiy has remained private. His focus stays on hockey and family. Life in Tampa during the season and Moscow in the offseason keeps him balanced. Marriage and fatherhood have added purpose. He continues to be a pillar for the Lightning. His contract reflects his value, but his presence speaks more. He isn't loud, but his game echoes throughout the league.
