Google Messages finally gets proper unsend functionality with ‘Delete for everyone'
Over the years, Google Messages has picked up features that elevate its status to a deserving Apple Messages substitute. The latest addition, allowing you to fully unsend messages, is now reaching a breadth of Android users, saving them the pain of awkwardness of wrongly sent texts.
After previewing the 'Delete for everyone' feature in its Messages app, Google is releasing it to people beyond the beta testing tribe. As expected, the functionality allows senders of the message to delete it for all parties in a peer-to-peer or a group chat and replaces older functionality where deleted messages would still appear for others.

The Delete for everyone functionality was spotted by a Redditor with a username seeareeff (via 9to5Google), but they did not specify which version of Google Messages you need to get it working. We could not activate it at our end despite updating the app to the latest version, suggesting this might be a server-side switch.
Notably, these changes will only apply to messages and chats over RCS — a relatively modern internet-based messaging protocol that Google hopes, but has trouble budging Apple, to replace traditional SMS. That means everyone in the chat must have RCS enabled, which is anyway necessary if you want to enjoy features like message reactions or typing indicators, to enjoy the functionality. You must also update Google Messages to the latest version, else deleted messages may still appear for some folks.
Besides chats with others who use Google Messages, the cross-platform nature of RCS means that it should, in theory, also work seamlessly with Apple Messages. This is because Apple recently adopted RCS along with its own iMessage protocol for the Messages app. One requisite, however, is the other people must have updated their iPhone or iPad to iOS 18. It's still not fool-proof, though, since RCS may require setting up for some people (from Google Messages' settings) and may not be supported by every telecom carrier.
With Google Messages now adopted as the de-facto messaging app for Android, we can expect Google to push for aggressive standardization.

When we compared Gemini to ChatGPT last year, we ultimately gave the edge to Gemini for having more features. The gap has closed since then. So yes, Gemini is a fine alternative to ChatGPT. Look for AI on social media AI is a part of some social media platforms. For instance, there's Meta AI, which can be helpful if you're trying to get some inspiration with a caption or find the right word. But it can easily miss the mark and give you something that feels like a robot impersonating a human — think Steve Buscemi's "How do you do, fellow kids" scene. I've tried it with personal posts on Instagram, and it worked well for simple, cheesy captions. But when I asked Meta AI to help make a message to our CNET Broadcast Channel a little more personable with humor, what it gave me was obviously crafted by AI and read like someone trying too hard. Ask it to add emoji and it will spam your message with emoji like someone's mom who just discovered them. Also, to my surprise, X's Grok is useful for when you need a little more context on a post you're viewing or a subject you're curious about on the platform. Many of the latest mobile processors from AMD, Intel and Qualcomm have NPUs that meet this threshold, so chances are good your next Windows laptop will be a Copilot Plus PC with AI features. It's a broad category that includes budget models priced below $1,000. Accidental leaks can happen, and just like any other system, AI ones can be breached and their data stolen. Obviously, you can never completely control what companies and other groups do with your data, but you can avoid handing over personal details when you use an AI-powered system. A weird flub in the background, a disappearing element, a person with three legs and 14 fingers — despite constant advancements, AI image generators aren't perfect. Mistakes (or hallucinations) like these are headaches I've had to deal with many times while testing and reviewing different AI generators. There's not one specific reason why your image didn't come out quite right, but I recommend starting at the beginning. Revisit your prompt to make sure it's addressing everything you want, and take out any conflicting instructions. Try not to use too many post-generation editing tools. Less is more. Only the basic iPhone 14 is still available at T-Mobile. You can snag one free with an eligible trade-in, as long as you're on an Experience Beyond or Go5G Next plan. Those on other eligible rate plans can save up to $300 with a trade-in. You can also get it free with a new line and trade-in, or when you switch your number over from another carrier. If you're only activating a new line on a qualifying plan, you'll still save 50% (up to $315). T-Mobile also has exclusive offers for military members, first responders and people older than 55. See at T-Mobile AT&T isn't offering any direct discounts or special offers on the iPhone 14 right now, but you can save with an eligible trade-in. Like the iPhone 14 series, these 2021 models are getting pretty tough to find in new condition and there are no active deals right now. If the new $599 iPhone 16E is a little outside your budget, don't worry. You can still find the even more affordable iPhone SE, which was updated in 2022. You can grab it for as low as $149 if you get it prepaid from Straight Talk or free when you switch your number over to Total Wireless. With this discount, it's the most affordable iPhone on the shelves right now, although it's getting pretty tough to find it in stock.
