SHARON, Pa. (WKBN) – What a season 2024 was for the Sharon softball program. Undefeated during the regular season, District 10 3A champs. State semifinalist.
This season, coach Dave Bodien hopes for more of the same.
'Our expectations for the upcoming season are to have a record above .500 and hopefully be in position to compete for a Region 5 and District 10 3A title,' he said.
Sharon returns a nice grouping of letter winners led by a trio of seniors – Claire Bodien, 1B/P; Dalaini Bayer, 2B; and Chloe Pagliarini, SS – as their joined by junior Mary Claire Brown at catcher and a pair of sophomores P/3B Madelyn Vogan and 3B/P Mya Bundrant.
Bodien batted .483 with 8 doubles and 35 runs batted in while striking out just three times. In the center, she was a perfect 4-0 with an ERA of 0.00 in 24 2/3 innings of work with 42 strikeouts.
Bayer hit .349, as she struck out just 3 times, and finished with 6 doubles and 17 RBIs while scoring 37 runs.
Vogan finished with school records in homers (14), pitching wins (19-1) and strikeouts (243). She nearly hit for an average of .600 (593) with 51 base knocks, 40 RBIs, 50 runs scored and only two strikeouts at the dish. In the circle, she tossed 131 innings while compiling a 1.12 ERA.
Bundrant put together a solid freshman year as well as she closed out with a strong stat line of .356 average, 3 homers, 22 RBIs, 23 runs and she tossed 14 1/3 innings while striking out 17 batters for an earned run average of 1.46.
Six freshmen will join the varsity squad with the emergence of Marley Bundrant, Addie McFann, Alauna Wilson, Ellie Nespor, Aliyah Fleet and Brooklyn Ruzich.
Coach Bodien says, 'The strength of our team will be our leadership and experience with so many returning players and contributors from last season. On the field, we believe our pitching and defense will be the keys to winning games.'
The season opens against Meadville on March 20.
