'It highlighted all the flaws City have got'

It was a chastening night for defending Premier League champions Manchester City against Champions League holders Real Madrid as they lost 3-1 (6-3 on agg) at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium to exit the competition.
Speaking on BBC Sounds' Football Daily Champions League debrief after the match, former goalkeeper Paul Robinson agreed that "it was clear to see" a huge gulf exists between Real Madrid and Manchester City.
"You watch that game and these two teams that played each other last year, it was almost role reversal the way Manchester City overpowered Real Madrid and how strong they looked," he said.
"The difference in the two sides today was so obvious to see. Real Madrid haven't improved that much that they have gone above Manchester City, it's how far Manchester City have actually dropped off and the lack of self-belief in that side."
It is the earliest that Manchester City have exited the competition since the 2012-13 season when they were eliminated in the group stage and Robinson was particularly scathing of their defence on the night, stating: "I use the words susceptible and vulnerable, that's what they look like as a defence. Every single time Real Madrid got the ball, they looked scared.
"There was holes all over in this Manchester City defence. They were pulled apart, there was no confidence, no communication and they're certainly a different Manchester City team to the one that played in the Champions League last year. They're miles off it, they really are.
"We've seen them lose games in the Premier League that we won't expect them to lose but you look at their record in the Champions League, losing away at Sporting Lisbon 4-1, losing against Juventus, the way that they capitulated at Paris Saint-Germain.
"There's been signs of their form and results coming back in the league but I think tonight was a bad highlight, it highlighted all the flaws that they've got."

UEFA Nations League: Mbappé nets 50th goal for France in third-place match

Kylian Mbappe helped France win the Nations League third-place match as Les Bleus rallied from a lethargic start to defeat host nation Germany 2-0 in the tournament's consolation match. Aurelien Tchouameni set up Real Madrid teammate Mbappé to score his 50th international goal just before the break after Germany had dominated the first half. Mbappé set up substitute Michael Olise to seal the result in the 84th after a much-improved second-half performance from the visitors. Mbappé's 50 goals is now just behind Thierry Henry (51) and Olivier Giroud (57) in the all-time men's scoring list for France. "If you look at the first half, honestly, they were not bothered winning. But they still won," Germany captain Joshua Kimmich said. France coach Didier Deschamps had made his lack of enthusiasm for the game clear the day before, noting his team had little to gain from playing it, and it was apparent which side was more motivated in front of the Stuttgart fans. "The game is there, we'll play it," Deschamps had said. France was without injured Paris Saint-Germain stars Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola. Germany missed a host of chances then had Deniz Undav's equalizer ruled out for a foul by Niclas Fullkrug in the buildup. Both sides were forced to play for the consolation prize after losing their semifinals. Germany lost 2-1 to Portugal on Wednesday before France lost 5-4 to European champion Spain on Thursday. Spain was playing Portugal later in Munich. Reporting by The Associated Press. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Real Madrid star hits new milestone with latest international goal

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé has on Sunday secured for himself another altogether impressive goalscoring feat. This comes owing to the 26-year-old's latest efforts on the international front. France are currently locked in action, in a Nations League 3rd-place playoff meeting with fellow heavyweights Germany. Advertisement Mbappé, for his part, was in from the off in the clash, leading the line for Didier Deschamps' Les Bleus. And the Real Madrid man has since gone on to make his presence firmly felt once more. Picked out by Blancos teammate Aurélien Tchouaméni courtesy of a pinpoint ball to the back post, Mbappé did superbly to control, work the ball onto his right foot, before finding the far corner of Marc-André ter Stegen's net. And opening the scoring on the day aside, the former PSG attacker's latest goal has also proven significant when it comes to the history books. This comes with Mbappé having now racked up 50 goals in the colours of France, just seven shy of the country's all-time record. Conor Laird – GSFN
