El Pollo Loco this month launched a rebrand and accompanying campaign as the fast-casual grilled chicken chain continues its ongoing three-year strategy around strengthening its identity, keeping pace with culture and increasing awareness. But even as the company faces a challenging consumer environment, CMO Jill Adams said that its efforts are a brand turnaround — not a business one.
'Our business is incredibly healthy,' the executive said. "We've been in business for 50 years. How do we think about the next 50 years and the legacy we want El Pollo Loco to leave as we go into that journey?'
To help build that legacy, El Pollo Loco evaluated its brand and found an opportunity to communicate more authentically about the brand's value proposition as it looks to engage consumers and find new ones while growing its footprint.
Core to the brand refresh, which launched on May 15, is a new tagline, 'Let's Get Loco,' a double entendre that serves as both a call to action ('What should we have for dinner? Let's get Loco') and a play on the Spanish word for crazy. In this case, the chain wants to engage with consumers around the passions for which they 'go loco' — a message it shared in a brand manifesto video.
'It's a new tagline, but it's so much more than a tagline. It's really about celebrating the passion of others,' Adams said. 'We wanted to ensure this campaign could work very hard in terms of driving awareness and consideration, but then as people get to know the brand, there's a deeper meaning to it.'
Along with the new tagline, the refresh includes updated consumer touchpoints across digital and in-store that feature new color schemes, fonts and layouts that Adams described as 'more evolution, not revolution.' New creative agency of record Innocean USA worked on the refresh and accompanying campaign.
'Our hope is to grow the business and build the brand fandom they deserve with smart, strategic work. That means offer-driven ads that stand apart and establish a unique brand voice, complemented by bold, word-of-mouth moments that get talked about and drive engagement across all platforms,' said Jason Sperling, the agency's chief creative officer, in emailed comments.
On the heels of the revamp, El Pollo Loco will run two food-focused ads across TV, digital and social with paid media support. A buoyant 15-second spot pitches the chain's new salads and wraps as juicy, creamy, tangy and 'greeny,' while a separate ad takes on 'counterfeit chicken.' Beyond marketing, El Pollo Loco unveiled a new remodel and prototype for its physical locations, and has been working for the last two years on an enhanced loyalty program for its digital properties.
'This [rebrand] will feel like this natural progression of who we've always been, because of those building blocks we've laid across other pieces of the business,' Adams said.
El Pollo Loco's brand refresh and growth plans come at a time of continued economic uncertainty and consumer hesitance. The chain, and its competitors in the fast-casual sector and beyond, have also faced labor and supply chain issues. During such periods, El Pollo Loco will look to meet consumers as they seek dependable, reliable comfort without sacrificing quality.
'When there is ever economic uncertainty, we still want to have those moments of affordable luxury, or a moment of escape, maybe from the everyday grind,' Adams said. 'That's the role that restaurants play, so we're really positioned so well.'

Meat major Plukon buys vegan business Vega Insiders

Netherlands-based poultry major Plukon Food Group has acquired local vegan and vegetarian products business Vega Insiders. The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the deal. In a statement announcing the transaction Plukon Food Group CEO Kees Kraijenoord said: 'This acquisition fits perfectly within our strategy. Plukon has been working on alternative protein concepts for years. 'Plukon Food Group has long wanted to have a dedicated vega(n) production location. With this acquisition, that ambition becomes reality and we can actually scale up within a fully plant-based environment." Part of the Zilverwerf Group, Vega Insiders specialises in fresh and frozen products such as vegan minced meat, bacon and cheese bites. The products are sold to retail and foodservice customers. The company operates from a 'modern' factory in Udenhout, employing 18 people. Vega Insiders founder and Zilverwerf Groep owner Mart Beniers said: 'After years of building Vega Insiders, I was looking for a future-proof place for the company. 'In Plukon, I found a partner with the same mentality: enterprising, realistic and with knowledge of the market. There was an immediate click, and that gives me the confidence that Vega Insiders is in good hands.' Vega Insiders will continue to operate under its own name within the Plukon Food Group. All the employees of the company will be retained by the group to integrate their 'knowledge and expertise in the field of vega(n) product development', Plukon Food Group said. A major supplier of meat products, Plukon Food Group operates across 40 locations in seven countries across Europe. In 2024, the company reported a turnover of €3.4bn ($3.87bn) and employed 11,000 staff. In January, Plukon Food Group acquired Spanish family-owned poultry business Grupo Avícola Hidalgo. The business made a series of acquisitions in 2024, including a move for HKScan's Danish unit and Polish peer Algas. Kissimmee to assess fee on property owners to add firefighters, shorten their workweeks

Property owners in Kissimmee will soon start paying a special fee to help their fire department recruit additional firefighters and allow them to work less-rigorous schedules. After a public hearing Tuesday evening that lasted more than an hour, commissioners voted 4-1 to assess all property owners $105 per parcel of land plus 56 cents per $1,000 of improvements made. 'I can't compromise public safety to save a dollar,' Commissioner Angela Eady said. 'I can't do that to someone that's willing to risk their lives to save a life.' Commissioner Carlos Alvarez cast the sole dissenting vote, saying it would 'be a burden to homeowners.' The assessment will raise the approximately $6 million needed annually to fund 49 new positions (firefighters and support staff) in the Fire Department. The funds will be part of the department's budget for the fiscal year starting in October. Fire Chief Jim Walls said Monday in an interview with the Orlando Sentinel that the funds will allow hiring roughly 39 firefighters — an entire second shift — and double the total number in the department. Expanding the ranks of firefighters will allow them to work a 42-hour workweek instead of the current 56 — making it the first department in Central Florida to adopt that schedule. Walls said adding personnel is not about improving response times — the rapidly growing city of just over 70,000 has already worked to add new fire stations on the growing east side — but about recruiting firefighters. 'We've had a hard time hiring and Kissimmee isn't any different from the rest of the state,' he said. 'So this will help us with recruitment, retention, morale, mental and physical health.' Roughly a dozen residents spoke during the meeting — with most opposing the fee — but three city firefighters said their mental health and the quality of service they provide would deteriorate if they keep working 56 hours a week. Joshua Clark, a KPD firefighter and president of its union, said the city is growing quickly and so are the department's calls. 'Every year the population rises, the buildings go higher, the calls get more complex and we meet these challenges head on time and time again,' Clark said. 'But to keep doing that to stay ahead of the curve we need the proper tools and resources. The fire fee gives us exactly that.' But Ana Mendez, a mother of two and first-time homeowner, told commissioners she opposes the assessment because it would cause her financial hardship. Mendez said she understands firefighters protect the community but asked if taxes she currently pays could support the department's effort. 'I'm a survivor of domestic violence and left that situation to go to a shelter,' she told them in Spanish with Mayor Jackie Espinosa translating. 'To finally have a house is a big achievement for me, it's not fully paid for because I just got it, but the implication to have this fee as an additional expense will not be easy for me. 'For me this won't be easy and I'm sure that it won't be for other women who are in my same situation.' The assessment comes as a bill in the Legislature, House Bill 929, encourages a 42-hour workweek, Walls said. The legislation, in combination with Kissimmee's decision to adopt it, will likely push other cities and counties to implement the shorter workweek. 'It's just a matter of when people do make that switch,' he said. 'Now it only encourages, so it's not mandated … and so that to me it usually starts as encouraging but at some point down the road it usually will lead to having to do it.'

'I believe a lot in Como', says Cesc Fabregas, amid Inter links

If Serie A's managerial merry-go-round was not wild enough already, Inter have announced officially today that Simone Inzaghi has left the club. He is expected to be Saudi-bound, to take over at Al Hilal. To replace him, Inter are targetting Cesc Fabregas of Como, who has done a magnificent job in his first top flight season in management. Multiple clubs have already appeared as suitors for the Spanish manager. Bayer Leverkusen approached him to take over from Xabi Alonso but that option was refused. Inter would undoubtedly be more appealing option without a doubt. After all they have been the best side in Italy over the last few years and among the best in the world as demonstrated by them reaching the Champions League final twice in three seasons. However, Como have no intention of letting him go. Mirwan Suwarso, the president of Como, said yesterday that Fabregas will not be leaving and that he is a part of the club's long term project. The former Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder said something similar today as reported by 'I really believe in the Como project. I started with this club because I was thinking of a long-term project.I don't want to end my career in a club where there is a project for one or two years, and then everything ends. I really believe in Como's long-term project, I came here as a player and I am very, very happy because here I can work the way I want,' he stated. If Inter can't tempt Fabregas, it is expected that they would go for Patrick Vieira who is currently at Genoa or Cristian Chivu, the manager of Parma. Kaulik Mitra I GIFN
