LONDON, Feb. 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- For AW25, KENT&CURWEN explores the idea of crossing thresholds—the space between the familiar and the unknown. Inspired by C.S. Lewis' childhood adventures in Northern Ireland, where dressing up and storytelling were gateways to imagined worlds, the collection captures the tension between adolescence and self-actualization. Much like stepping through the wardrobe into Narnia or crossing into the mythical Tír na nÓg, it's about dressing for life's transitions—outfitting ourselves for uncharted paths ahead.
Nostalgia offers comfort, with its familiar codes of dress acting as an anchor, using the known to shape something new. At its core, KENT&CURWEN remains rooted in quintessential British heritage—tailored blazers, trench coats, and sportswear—but questions what tradition is today. Silhouettes are intentionally undone: outerwear and suiting feature exaggerated shoulders for soft protection, and rugby hems extend into babydoll dresses, conjuring collegiate nostalgia and youthful innocence. The brand first opened its doors in London, in 1926. It began as a maker of club and college ties for Oxford and Cambridge universities, helping to fashion a classic ideal of British collegiate style.

The three lions emblem, which was inspired by the Kent family crest, is the brand's most recognisable symbol, universally associated with British sports.

The summit is part of the broader Right Here Right Now Global Climate Alliance, originally launched at COP26 with support from figures such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Quincy Jones. Far from a typical conference, the event is designed as a platform for action, filled with ideas, inspiration, and practical strategies to combat climate change. Both have been instrumental in shaping the event to elevate the voices of young changemakers and ensure the summit delivers lasting impact. For Fawkes, the summit is a natural progression of a three-year global climate challenge competition that aimed to give students visibility and support. 'We've got some fantastic case studies of students doing incredible work across the world,' she says. 'This event is about showcasing their efforts and ensuring their ideas don't just exist in isolation but reach classrooms worldwide.' She emphasizes that educators play an equally vital role. 'If we want real change, we need climate education to be practical, accessible, and inspiring — not just theoretical. This summit is a way for teachers to share best practices and engage more deeply in the climate movement.' Fawkes hopes the initiative inspires other business schools to get involved. 'We need to approach this as a community-driven effort, not just something happening within Oxford,' she explains. 'It's crucial to keep these discussions alive and evolving. The summit will feature a diverse lineup of educators, researchers, and youth leaders, including Moses Brings Plenty — a Lakota actor and Indigenous rights advocate; Lucas Olscamp — youth educator and Climate Change Challenge winner; and several leading Oxford researchers who will share scenario-planning strategies for impactful climate action. Rituraj Phukan, a TEDx speaker and environmental writer, will discuss activism and Indigenous perspectives, while Henry Majed, co-founder of MyMynd, will address the mental health challenges youth face in the wake of climate change. Structured as a 24-hour event that 'moves across the world,' the summit will follow the sun, featuring teacher roundtables, youth-led panels, and live Q&As that explore the UN Sustainable Development Goals. 'We're trying to tackle all different elements of climate change,' says Morgan. 'From faculty experts discussing scenario planning to journalists covering sustainability and alumni pushing corporate climate goals — we want this summit to reflect the full spectrum of climate action.' Oxford Saïd is also launching a new summer school on entrepreneurship, designed to help students transform their competition ideas into actionable projects. Across the Pacific: Palauan Voyagers Renew Austronesian Bonds in Taitung
TAITUNG, June 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The Taitung County Government invited the Palauan-led multinational crew of the traditional sailing canoe Alingano Maisu, which brought together sailors from across the greater Micronesia region and Taiwan. The crew has recently completed a remarkable cultural voyage from Palau to Taitung, Taiwan, as part of a broader Austronesian exchange. With their return voyage now underway, the journey served not only as a reaffirmation of shared heritage but also as a fresh chapter in the living story of oceanic kinship. The crew was welcomed with a traditional ceremony led by the Dulan Youth Group, featuring ceremonial chants and protective dance performances—an expression of ancestral ties and mutual respect among Austronesian peoples. At the Taitung County Government Hall, a Voyaging Culture Sharing Forum was held, where the navigators shared their experiences crossing the Pacific and their traditional knowledge of celestial navigation. In return, local boatbuilders engaged in dialogue, sharing insights into their own seafaring culture and strengthening a shared reverence for the ocean. During their stay, the guest voyagers visited several Indigenous communities along Taiwan's eastern coast. Cultural exchange extended to the table as well. Besides enjoying meticulously prepared Indigenous meals, the crew also experienced Taiwan's signature hotpot culture. Sitting around the steaming pot, guests and hosts shared stories, laughter, and flavors—reminding all that food is one of the most powerful ways to build bridges between islands. Local Amis hosts presented the voyagers with betel nuts, hand-carved wooden badges, and even ukuleles—symbols of friendship and cultural pride. The crew also participated in the opening of the Kavulungan Cultural Park, a major cultural event celebrating the traditions of the Paiwan people. The visit concluded with a joyful farewell banquet filled with music, dance, and heartfelt connection—bringing the entire journey full circle.
