ESPN names Black 41 Flash Reverse Pass one of the top 25 plays in football since 2000
One of the more famous plays in the history of Nebraska football was recently named one of college football's greatest moments of the last two decades. ESPN ranked college football's top 25 plays since 2000, and at No. 21 on the list was "Black 41 Flash Reverse Pass" from the Huskers' 20-10 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners on Oct. 27, 2001.
Eight ESPN writers and two editors nominated fifty-one plays, and that list was whittled down to 25 plays. The eight writers then ranked the moments from 1 to 25, with 25 points awarded for the top play, 24 for second place, and so on, until play No. 25.

With the No. 3-ranked Cornhuskers leading the No. 2-ranked Sooners 13-10 in the fourth quarter and the ball at its own 37-yard line, head coach Frank Solich called Black 41 Flash Reverse Pass. ESPN described the play in detail.
"His heroics mostly came from running the option, but on this play against Oklahoma, Crouch handed off the ball, peeled out into the flat and up the field as a receiver. The original ball carrier, Thunder Collins, handed it to Mike Stuntz on a reverse, and he hit Crouch sprinting down the sideline for a 63-yard touchdown."
Nebraska would go on to win the game 20-10, and Eric Crouch would win the Heisman Trophy in one of the closest votes in the award's history. Crouch beat Florida sophomore quarterback Rex Grossman 770 points to 708 votes.
Crouch's 770 points are the fewest by a Heisman winner since Terry Baker won the award in 1962 with 707 points. Joining Crouch and Grossman at the Downtown Athletic Club that year were Miami quarterback Ken Dorsey and Oregon quarterback Joey Harrington.

That commit is in-state prospect Kamhariyan Johnson, who announced Tuesday that he would be shutting down his recruitment following conversations that included Alabama defensive line coach Freddie Roach. One-of-six current commitments in Alabama's 2026 recruiting class, Johnson ranks as the nation's No. 356 overall player in the cycle per the 247Sports Composite rankings, as well as the No. 33 edge rusher. Fox Sports 1 host continues his campaign against Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy Colin Cowherd has made it as a successful radio host not by luck, but by hard work and knowing what gets folks to tune in to his shows. In recent years, it has been done by finding one player or two and targeting them with criticism before moving on to someone else. His latest target is Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy, whom he has been talking about at length this offseason. Coming off a 14-3 season, Cowherd has said the Vikings are poised for a regression, one reason is the division is too tough, the other is due to McCarthy being their starting quarterback. In his latest critique of the former Michigan quarterback, the Fox Sports 1 host dove into the conspiracy theory behind why he hasn't officially been named the starter as a reason to think the team isn't sold on him. "There's so much mystery here. Why does Minnesota keep flirting with other quarterbacks? And there's too many conflicting reports on JJ McCarthy, so I just find the whole thing. There's a lot of stuff I just don't know. I feel sometimes I'm getting, I'm getting a little bit of a spin job here. . .I never buy this: When you say this about a quarterback, that guy is a winner. Everybody under Jim Harbaugh and Steve Spurrier and Nick Saban's a winner. I don't want to hear that. If you go back and look his arm is modest. His escape ability is modest. His release wasn't super quick. There is no great trait." Cowherd has gone as far as to compare McCarthy to former Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel. He famously never panned out in the NFL, despite everyone offering similar praise of him being a proven winner after winning a National Championship with Florida. While Wurffel went 4-6 in his career as a starter and only threw for 12 touchdowns and 22 interceptions, signs point to McCarthy being a little better off than Wurffel.
