'A true privilege': Fontbonne Academy welcomes Boston Archbishop to campus for Catholic Schools Week
This week marks the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States.
As such, Fontbonne Academy welcomed Archbishop Richard Henning of the Archdiocese of Boston Monday to speak with students and staff, while learning more about the school's mission and programs.
Archbishop Henning led the opening Mass at the school and passed on words of wisdom to the student body. Fontbonne students participated in discussions and service projects aimed at fostering unity, inclusion, and social justice, even making blankets and bracelets for needy men, women, and children at Bethany Hill Place in Framingham.
'It was a true privilege to welcome Archbishop Henning to Fontbonne, especially during our 70th Anniversary,' said Head of School Maura Spignesi. 'His presence and inspiring message about being the ambassadors of God's love and women of service to others highlight the importance of Catholic education and our mission to empower young women.'
In addition to the liturgy, the school hosted a performance honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as a prelude to Black History Month.
'One of the greatest lessons we take from the Sisters of St. Joseph is the peaceful resolution of conflict,' said Spignesi. 'As we celebrate Martin Luther King and all that he stood for, our young women will listen, learn, sing, dance, and be joyful in sharing the message of unifying love and ensuring that everyone has a place at the table, with their voices heard.'

Diocese announces Mass, observances to close Eucharistic Revival
The Altoona-Johnstown Roman Catholic Diocese will mark the closing of Eucharistic Revival in the Catholic church in America with a Mass celebrated by Bishop Mark L. Bartchak at 5 p.m. June 22 at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona. Prior to the liturgy, the faithful will have the opportunity for Eucharistic adoration beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing throughout the afternoon. At 3 p.m., a holy hour for vocations will be prayed, and priests will celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be prayed at 4 p.m. for the intention of welcoming Catholics home to the church, and at 4:15 p.m., Bartchak will lead a Eucharistic procession inside the cathedral, leading up to the Mass. The national Eucharistic Revival has been a three-year movement by the bishops of the United States to educate and inspire Catholics to re-ignite their personal relationship with Christ through the Holy Eucharistic.

Blessed Sacrament closes for good, holds final day of school Thursday
A local Catholic school that's been open since 1939 closed its doors for summer break for the very last time. Students at Blessed Sacrament had their last day of school on Thursday, and mixed emotions could be seen from students, parents and staff. Parents voice concerns to school board over closure of Blessed Sacrament The Erie Catholic School System announced that they were shutting down this past February, citing what they called a 'continuous decline in enrollment.' One parent said they are extremely frustrated, but they are hopeful about their case, which is currently being seen before the Vatican. Protest held following closure announcement of Blessed Sacrament School 'They've really paid a lot of attention to the decision. Within three weeks of sending us the information, they have looked at it well enough to know that they wanted to go further with it, extremely encouraging,' said Dorothy Sexauer, a Blessed Sacrament parent. 'We just had schools closed down in the Bronx in February, the same month we did, we had a school in Chicago the 31st of May, so this is an event of national importance.' Plane with more than 240 people aboard crashes 5 minutes after takeoff in India
AHMEDABAD, India (AP/Boston 25) — An Air India passenger plane bound for London with more than 240 people on board crashed Thursday in India's northwestern city of Ahmedabad, the airline said. Visuals on local television channels showed smoke billowing from the crash site in what appeared to be a populated area near the airport in Ahmedabad, a city with a population of more than 5 million. The airline said the Gatwick Airport-bound flight was carrying 242 passengers and crew. Of those, Air India said there were 169 Indians, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian. Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, the director general of the Directorate of Civil Aviation, told The Associated Press that Air India flight AI 171, a Boeing 787-8, crashed into a residential area called Meghani Nagar five minutes after taking off at 1:38 p.m. local time. He said 244 people were on board, and it was not immediately possible to reconcile the discrepancy with Air India's numbers. Gatwick posted on X that it could confirm the flight, which had been due to arrive at 6:25 p.m. in London, had crashed on departure. India's Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu posted on X that rescue teams have been mobilized, and all efforts are being made to ensure medical aid and relief support at the site. 'We are on highest alert. I am personally monitoring the situation,' he said. The 787 Dreamliner is a widebody, twin-engine plane. This is the first crash ever of a Boeing 787 aircraft, according to the Aviation Safety Network database. The aircraft was introduced in 2009 and more than 1,000 have been delivered to dozens of airlines, according to the Flightradar24 website. Air India's chairman, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, said at the moment, 'our primary focus is on supporting all the affected people and their families.' He said on X that the airline had set up an emergency center and support team for families seeking information about those who were on the flight.
