Premier League confirms extra June transfer window for Club World Cup
The Premier League has confirmed it will have two transfer windows this summer due to 'exceptional' circumstances surrounding the Club World Cup.
The first transfer window will open early, and run between Sunday 1 June and Tuesday 10 June. It will then close briefly before reopening on Monday 16 June. The second transfer window will run as normal before closing on Monday 1 September.
The Premier League's decision appeared inevitable after Fifa announced an interim transfer window for club's competing at the Club World Club last October. Fifa's stance meant that clubs such as Chelsea and Manchester City would be able to add to their squads and agree contract extensions with players before the tournament begins in the United States on 14 June.
However, as the Guardian first reported last month, many of the other Premier League clubs were unhappy at the prospect of being shut out of the transfer market during this period and wanted the domestic window to open earlier so they were not at a disadvantage.
That has now been agreed after a Premier League meeting on Thursday. In a statement the Premier League said: 'The window will open early, between Sunday 1 June and Tuesday 10 June, due to an exceptional registration period relating to the Fifa Club World Cup. It will then reopen on Monday 16 June and close on Monday 1 September.'

Last year the summer transfer window was open between 14 June and 30 August.

Liverpool newcomer Florian Wirtz motivated to build on Leverkusen achievements
The Premier League champions have paid Bayer Leverkusen £100million for the 22-year-old Germany international but that fee could potentially become a British record as there are £16m of add-ons included. If achieved that would surpass the existing mark of £115m which Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo in 2023 and it is understood Liverpool will be happy to pay these 'aspirational bonuses' as it will mean they have enjoyed considerable success at elite level. And that is what Wirtz, one of Europe's hottest properties, is determined to contribute to. 'I'm not coming (to) have fun here, I want also to achieve something and give the fans what they deserve,' he told the club's website. 'Of course I want to keep going at this performance. He wants to continue the progress which saw him score 57 goals and contribute 64 assists in 197 appearances for Leverkusen. 'This was also a big point for me: that I will improve my own personal level and physical levels because I think everyone knows that in Liverpool the players are machines – really strong and really physical,' he added. 'But I see this also as an opportunity for me to get better in this point. So yeah, I just thought this was the right place for me.' Liverpool saw off competition from Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid to secure Wirtz.
