Father and daughter, nine, dead after house fire
The two died after the blaze broke out in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire, on Sunday, police said.
Medics tried to save the father's life but he died at the scene in Russell Close, while the nine-year-old was taken to hospital but died later that day.
The 11-year-old girl was also taken to hospital, where she remains.
It is believed the mother was out of the country at the time of the fire.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it sent four crews to tackle the blaze, which was reported at around 6am.
Det Insp Paul Greatorex, of West Yorkshire Police, said: 'We are continuing to work with colleagues at the fire service to investigate this dreadfully sad incident which has resulted in a father and daughter losing their lives.
'Extensive inquiries have been ongoing since yesterday and we have been working to locate and support relatives of the victims both here and outside of the UK at what is clearly an awful time for the family.
'While our inquiries remain ongoing, we do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances regarding the cause of the fire and will be preparing a file for the coroner in due course.
'Our support for the family involved clearly also still continues.'
Councillor Ali Arshad, who represents Heckmondwike on Kirklees Council as a member of the Kirklees Community Independents Group, said he had asked the community, which he described as 'close-knit', not to speculate.
He said: 'There's been no speculation. Everybody has respected the wishes of the family.'
He said the family of the victims were 'absolutely amazing people', adding: 'They keep themselves to themselves and are always cheery and willing to help.'

NEW YORK, June 9 (Reuters) - One of Sean "Diddy" Combs' former girlfriends testified on Monday in the hip-hop mogul's sex trafficking trial that she told him in text messages that she felt mistreated in their relationship and asked to stop taking part in sexual performances with other men. "I'm not a porn star. I'm not an animal," the woman, testifying under the pseudonym Jane to protect her privacy, wrote Combs on October 16, 2023, according to a text message she read aloud in court. "It's loveless for me and nothing satisfies you and you always push me to do more and more." The messages could bolster prosecutors' contention that Combs, 55, for two decades coerced women to take part in the sexual performances, sometimes known as "Freak Offs," against their will. Combs is charged with using physical force and threatening to cut off financial support to get women to take part in the drug-fueled, sometimes days-long performances in hotel rooms while he watched. Combs, the founder of Bad Boy Records, has pleaded not guilty to charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. His lawyers have acknowledged that Combs was occasionally abusive in domestic relationships, but say the women who took part in Freak Offs did so consensually. Jane, the third alleged sex abuse victim of Combs to testify at his trial in Manhattan federal court, told jurors last week that she was "head over heels" for Combs at the outset of their relationship, which lasted from 2021 through 2024. She testified that most of the time they spent together involved sex performances with male escorts in hotel rooms, even though she wanted to go on dates with just Combs. She said Combs - whose net worth Forbes estimated at above $1 billion in 2022 - threatened to stop paying her rent when she said she wanted to stop having sex with other men. Combs' defense lawyers are due to cross-examine Jane later this week. The trial is in its fifth week. Combs could face life in prison if convicted on all counts. Flintshire two-year-old had 'collapsed' day before incident
Michael Ives (47) and Kerry Ives (46) - Ethan's grandparents - from Garden City, stand accused of murdering two-year-old Ethan, who died on August 16, 2021. With the assistance of DC Lee Harshey-Jones, officer in the case, the court was taken through a timeline of telephone and CCTV video evidence on Monday. The phone evidence documented communications between the defendants and others - including text messages. In one of these, sent following Ethan being placed on a child protection register, Michael Ives sent a text in which he claimed he was "not coping." It was said in another message to Michael Ives that when Ethan was "being naughty," it 'stressed him (the defendant) out.' The court also saw several pieces of CCTV footage taken from cameras at the front and rear of the Ives' family home in Garden City. The clip showed how he fell and struggled to get to his feet as Shannon Ives got on with him and bounced herself. She helped him up initially, but he fell once again and was bounced around on the canvas as Kerry Ives watched on. Michael Ives watched as another child bounced and Ethan continued to struggle to get up on the trampoline - eventually lying face down on the canvas. Some 42 minutes after he was placed on the trampoline, Ethan could be seen being lifted by his upper right arm only by Michael Ives, who then carried him across the garden in that manner. Later on in the day, when Ethan had come back out and resumed playing on the trampoline, Michael Ives could be seen spraying water over the child from a hose he'd been using to fill a paddling pool. Michael and Shannon Ives watched on as another child put their foot on Ethan's head, before Michael Ives grabbed Ethan by the arm once more. The court was also told and shown how at one point, Michael Ives appeared to motion with a closed hand to the other child on the trampoline, who then seemed to strike Ethan to the front and back of his head. DC Harshey-Jones told the court that on August 13, Shannon Ives told a social services worker that Ethan was "really poorly." But CCTV captured Michael and Kerry Ives taking him to Tesco at Broughton Shopping Park just a short time later. The next day, Kerry Ives made a 13 minute call to the ambulance service, commencing at around 9.21pm. It was played to the court in full. Kerry Ives told the call-handler that Ethan had fallen to the floor whilst watching TV and had become unresponsive. On the instruction of the ambulance service, Michael Ives left the property to collect a defibrillator - which he returned with a few minutes later. Following mouth-to-mouth with Ethan, the Ives confirmed he was breathing but still unresponsive. Michael Ives was captured in the call telling him: "Come on Ethan, come on lad." He went on to tell the call-handler that Ethan had "collapsed" the previous day. "He was just standing up watching TV and he just fell to the floor," he said. "He was like this for about three minutes and he came round." The court also saw a piece of police bodycam footage captured after the incident. It was the first account given by Michael Ives about what had happened to Ethan, DC Harshey-Jones said. Regarding the incident the day before the ambulance was called, Michael Ives told the officer: "Yesterday he fell to sleep and hurt himself; I was playing with him and he just fell back. "He landed on the rug. I managed to bring him round after three minutes and he was fine. "I was going to call the ambulance yesterday but he came back to his normal self. "He's been good as gold all day today, then this again today for no reason." Speaking of the incident which resulted in the ambulance callout, he told the officer: "He was in the living room with me and my wife. "He was standing there one minute, and then one minute I saw him falling backwards. "I grabbed him just before he hit the coffee table. He'd gone all limp. "He was breathing - he was just glaring. "I panicked; I didn't know what to do. "He just looked like he'd fallen asleep. I tried to wake him up, but he wasn't having any of it." In bodyworn footage, Kerry Ives described the incident as "horrible." "I was getting in hysterics," she told the police. "I was rubbing his chest and his head was flopped back. "I went and phoned an ambulance. "He's a quiet lad. Now and again he can show his temper, but all babies can show if they have a temper. "He's just a normal lad. There was nothing out of the ordinary but he can fall over. He's tripped over in here half a dozen times. "I just can't believe he's been rushed to hospital." The trial continues.

Handbag burglars tunnel into shop in £250k heist
About £250,000 in luxury handbags has been stolen from a store by thieves who gained access through a hole they created from the property next Police said the three suspects appeared to have access the shop via the chimney at St James House in New Road, Prestbury, Cheshire, at about 23:40 BST on are thought to have entered a disused building adjacent to the shop an hour before, and created a hole in the adjoining wall which led to the next door store through the chimney. The force said the offenders stole a number of high-value designer handbags, with a total estimated cost of around £260, Con Clare Slattery said: "Our enquiries are ongoing, and we would urge anyone who witnessed this incident or saw anything suspicious to get in touch with us."The same goes for anyone with dashcam footage or CCTV which might aid our investigation."
