Boston Celtics jersey history No. 20 - Sherman Douglas (1992-95)
The Boston Celtics have had players suiting up in a total of 68 different jersey numbers (and have three others not part of any numerical series) since their founding at the dawn of the Basketball Association of America (BAA -- the league that would become today's NBA), worn by well over 500 players in the course of Celtics history.
To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Celtics Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team.
With 25 of those jerseys now retired to honor some of the greatest Celtics to wear those jerseys, there is a lot of history to cover.
And for today's article, we will continue with the 18th of 31 people to wear the No. 20 jersey, Boston guard alum Sherman Douglas. After ending his college career at Syracuse, Douglas was picked up with the 28th overall selection of the 1989 NBA draft by the Miami Heat.
The Washington, District of Columbia native would play parts of the first three seasons of his pro career with the heat, coming to an end when he was dealt to Boston in 1992. His stay with the team would span parts of five seasons, ending when he was dealt to the Milwaukee Bucks in 1995.
During his time suiting up for the Celtics, Douglas wore only jersey Nos. 4 and 20 and put up 11.1 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game.

After decades of iconic moments, tons of laughs, and legendary comradery and commentary, NBA on TNT has officially checked out of the game. The network aired its final basketball broadcast, closing the curtain on an era that gave us never ending hilarious debates, buzzer-beater reactions, and halftime thoughts and jokes. Not only are the hosts of "Inside the NBA" feeling the full-court heartbreak, so are fans. Advertisement Shaquille O'Neal, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and Ernie Johnson all shared their thoughts and feelings during the final broadcast before the show wrapped for the last time on Saturday night. And That's A Wrap: NBA On TNT Has Aired For The Final Time YouTube | NBA on TNT Fans knew that last broadcast was going to be an emotional one, and for good reason. "Inside the NBA" has been known for its basketball commentary, debates, and absolutely hilarity between the four hosts. The last broadcast was Saturday night during the Indiana Pacers vs. New York Knicks Eastern Conference Final game six in Indiana. Advertisement While this is the end of the guy's time on TNT, the show will go on, just on a different network. And all four hosts will keep the show alive next season in the new home. Each host took some time to share their thoughts and feelings during the last broadcast. Shaquille O'Neal: 'We're A Family' YouTube | NBA on TNT Finals words from each host started with O'Neal, who quickly pointed out that he's "the youngest here." "It's been a great run. It's been an honor. Chuck, I love you like the older brother that I never had," he said. "And if you say something, I will whoop your a-- one last time on this show right now." Advertisement He continued with a message for both Smith and Johnson before saying they will be "sticking together." "We're a family. I'm glad we're sticking together. And like I said, even though the name changes, the engine is still the same," he said. "And to the new network we're coming to, we're not coming to f around." He concluded his speech by saying he "loves" and "appreciates" the guys. Kenny Smith Said NBA On TNT Has Been A 'Magnificent Ride' YouTube | Kenny Smith And then the attention turned to Smith, who shared that this moment is "bittersweet." Advertisement "Not just because us four are moving, but it's been a history that has been set by all of the people that have laid the groundwork behind the scenes, before the scenes, the game crew, the toss back crew," he shared before naming some important people involved in the show. "We're gonna see each other, but the faces that you're going to miss, that you forget that they are everyday of your life, this has just been a magnificent ride," he said. It was then time to pass the mic to Barkley. Charles Barkley Thanked TNT And Many Others YouTube | NBA on TNT Barkley began by saying he "got lucky and made one of the best decisions ever." Advertisement He shared that he was going to go to NBC, but after being invited to dinner with Turner, after five hours, he decided to change his mind and go to TNT. He also thanked some important people who helped him throughout his journey at Turner for the past 25 years. "If you're with people that long, they are your family," he said. "And I just want to thank everybody at Turner for the last 25 years. It's been an honor and I'm grateful and thankful. And also to ESPN, it's gonna be an honor and privileged to work with you guys." He also thanked the NBA and "every coach I had, every player I played with" for giving him the life he's had. "I'm lucky and blessed," he said. "And I want to thank TNT and even though we will never say TNT sports again, I want to thank TNT for giving me a magnificent life." Ernie Smith Gets Emotional Saying Goodbye To NBA On TNT YouTube | NBA on TNT Johnson, last to say his goodbyes, got choked up at the end. Advertisement "I'll try to keep this brief," he started. "Several years ago, I wrote a book called 'Unscripted' and I asked people to embrace the unscripted and not fear the unscripted. If I had written the script, the NBA and TNT would be together forever. It's not gonna happen, but while I was disappointed and I was sad, I was not bitter. We know how business works. Gratitude is the operative word for me." Since 1989, Johnson has been with TNT. He said no matter what you call the company; he will always be "Turner." He's grateful for his time working with the guys and reminisced about the good times. Holding back tears, he thanked everyone and said he was "honored to do this." "The four of us are gonna be together, our production crew is gonna be together," he said. "It's gonna be that same bunch. We're still gonna be shooting that show in Atlanta, it's just gonna air somewhere else. And so, the craziness that you've seen, the nonsense and the foolishness and the top-notch basketball analysis all of that stuff will be on ESPN or ABC next year, not on TNT. For that, we're sad." He concluded his speech emotionally with, "But I'm proud to say for the last time, thanks for watching us. It's the NBA on TNT."

Phoenix Suns' Embarrassing Stat Revealed After NBA Conference Finals
Phoenix Suns' Embarrassing Stat Revealed After NBA Conference Finals originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Phoenix Suns did not make the Conference Finals, nor did they even make the NBA playoffs despite boasting Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and a title-winning coach in Mike Budenholzer. Advertisement On Saturday, the Indiana Pacers beat the New York Knicks to set up a Finals date with the Oklahoma City Thunder, with tipoff for Game 1 slated for June 5. Indiana and Oklahoma City, regardless of what happens in the Finals, have a bright future ahead of them, and the Suns, on the other hand, are staring down a bleak few seasons. While the Suns are expected to trade Kevin Durant this offseason, their massive payroll is still the talk of the NBA world. Mandatory Credit: Rick Scuteri-Imagn Images© Rick Scuteri-Imagn Images Suns' Payroll is Embarrassingly High The Suns' roster cost them $214,371,340 this season, easily the most expensive in the league, although it gets even more embarrassing for Phoenix, especially considering how disappointing their season was. Advertisement "I believe that the Pacers and Thunder payroll, total payroll combined, is less than what Phoenix paid this year," said ESPN front office insider Bobby Marks. "I'm sorry for my Suns fans out there, because I'm casting you a stray." Marks is right. After the $188.49 million in luxury taxes the Suns paid this season, their final cost to field a 36-win team was $402.86 million. The Thunder and Pacers, both of whom won at least 14 more games than the Suns, spent a combined $334.12 million on their roster, avoiding the luxury taxes completely. Both teams built mostly through the draft and savvy trades for role-players or players on rookie contracts instead of shelling out massive sums for expensive stars who don't fit well. Advertisement Neither the Suns, Thunder, nor Pacers have won the NBA Finals in their franchise history, although the Pacers and Thunder are expected to be in the mix for the next several seasons. The Suns, on the other hand, remain the laughing stock of the NBA. Check out the Inside the Suns homepage for more news, analysis, and must-read articles. Could the New York Knicks poach veteran Boston Celtics big man Al Horford?
Could the New York Knicks poach veteran Boston Celtics big man Al Horford? At least one prominent NBA analyst seems to think there is a chance. Speaking on a recent episode of the "Hoop Collective" podcast, senior ESPN reporter Tim Bontemps suggested that the University of Florida alum could seriously consider decamping to the Knicks this offseason given Horford is a free agency with a murky future with Boston after the Achilles tendon tear to star Celtics forward Jayson Tatum threw a monkey wrench into Boston's short-term contention window. "Al Horford is a free agent," said Bontemps. "I don't think at this point it makes a lot of sense for ... Horford to be back in Boston. Maybe he will be, but given where things are with the Celtics, I think he's now much more in play than he might have been a month ago." Advertisement "Horford is a longtime friend of (Karl-Anthony Towns and) has played with him with the Dominican National team for a long time," added the ESPN analyst. "If they go get Al Horford this summer, who I think would be an unbelievable fit on this Knicks roster." "(...) That's a team that could beat the Pacers next year," suggested Bontemps. "That's a team that'll be in the mix in the East." While Horford would be within his rights to pursue another title with a team on the come-up during a season Boston is almost certainly going to take a significant step back, it seems unlikely he would make a move akin to what Ray Allen did during the 'Ubuntu'-era Celtics in the early 2010s, when the UConn alum decamped to the rival Miami Heat. Advertisement The context may be different, but given that precedent and Horford's exit to the Philadelphia 76ers at the end of his first stint in Boston, we'd be surprised if the Dominican forward left Boston for New York, if at all. Another ball club out west -- or perhaps his near-hometown team, the Detroit Pistons -- could be a different story, however.
