‘I've seen worse': Scituate, coastal communities braced to weather late-May nor'easter
Coastal Massachusetts towns on the south shore,, like Scituate battled through a late-May nor'easter that brought high winds, heavy rain, and coastal flooding during high tide Thursday night.
At the Scituate Lighthouse, onlookers flocked to the coast to get a close look at the waves.
'Hearty New Englanders are used to this stuff,' said William Danforth of Hingham.
He told Boston 25 his friends with boats already in the harbor were concerned with the storm blowing through.
Danforth added, 'I think they're feeling probably a little on edge, perhaps.'
Brian Fairbank, another onlooker at the lighthouse, echoed Danforth, 'I've seen worse... It's New England, [weather] can change in the blink of an eye!'
Boston 25 tagged alongside Scituate's town administrator Jim Boudreau while he monitored the coastlines.
'A lot of times you're staying by the phone,' he said Thursday night during high tide. 'My biggest concern is going to be the wind with the full canopies on the trees. They tend to act as sails, so you can get more damage.'
He said that all DPW crews are on-call. Fire and police crews also were increased overnight into Friday.
Boudreau doesn't anticipate major coastal flooding other than splash-over near the sea walls.
However, he said the area could see scattered power outages.
'Be ready when you see a storm coming,' Boudreau advised. 'Make sure your generators work. Make sure you're ready to go if something happens.'
He also warned the public about venturing too close to the shores during any nor'easter, saying it's dangerous for the public and emergency crews.,

Worcester city officials warn of elevated E. Coli levels after wastewater overflows into storm drain
Worcester City Officials are warning the public of an elevated risk of E. Coli levels after wastewater was discharged onto the streets. Officials say that on Friday morning, around 11:07 AM, the city encountered a sewage overflow in the area of 65 Lake Avenue. Around 470 gallons of untreated wastewater was discharged from an underground pipe and onto the street. An immediate response from city crews was able to stop the leakage around 12:41 PM and ensure that the sewer system was operating normally. However, during the wastewater leak, some of it had made its way into some of the storm drains, which ultimately drains to Lake Quinsigamond. The city is now advising the public of a possible elevation to E. Coli levels near the areas of the discharge. Many major roads in Mass. town left impassable after strong storm blows through
Many major roads in a Massachusetts town were left impassable Friday morning after a powerful storm blew through, toppling trees and utility poles. The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Middlesex and Worcester counties, including Ayer, around 7 a.m. Shortly after the warning was issued, police in Ayer reported that multiple trees and wires were blocking roads around town. "Multiple roads are impassable," the Ayer Police Department wrote in a Facebook post. In a subsequent post, police warned motorists that roadways into town from the east and north were blocked by downed trees and live wires, noting that Sandy Pond, Central Avenue, East Main Street at the rotary, and Groton Harvard Road were all closed. A Boston 25 News photographer captured drone video from the Ayer rotary that showed a massive cluster of trees resting across the roadway and multiple utility poles leaning over. 'Some neighborhoods will see increased cut-through traffic. Please be patient and courteous,' police advised. 'Many resources are being brought in to help make the roads safe for passage and get the electricity turned back on.' Police said a tractor-trailer trying to use Oakridge Drive as a cut-through route got hooked on wires and brought down poles. There was no immediate word on when the closed roads would reopen. There is a risk of strong storms in the region throughout the afternoon to sunset.
