Two men sentenced for plans of distributing meth in 2022
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Two men have been sentenced in federal court for transporting eight kilograms of methamphetamine.
According to a United States Department of Justice press release, Juan Alvardo-Alvardo, a Mexican national, and Jesus Sanchez, of Joplin, were sentenced following the transport of methamphetamine from Dallas, Texas, to Joplin.
Alvardo-Alvarado was sentenced to 192 months in federal prison without parole with five years of supervised release. The man first pleaded guilty on Sept. 23, 2024.
Sanchez was sentenced to 132 months in federal prison without parole with 5 followed years of supervised release. He first pleaded guilty on Nov. 21, 2024.

The two men were first found with methamphetamine on May 25, 2022, during a traffic stop by police in Newton County, the release says.
Police say Sanchez admitted during a post-Miranda interview that Alvardo-Alvardo and he had traveled to Dallas to purchase the methamphetamine.
Both men were charged on June 6, 2022, after plans to distribute 500 grams of methamphetamine.

New Florida law adds requirement before teens can get behind the wheel
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law last week that adds an extra requirement for teenagers looking to get behind the wheel. SB-994 states that future drivers ages 15 to 17 must pass a driver education course before receiving their learner's license. WATCH: Thousands of sand fleas take over Florida beach In addition to this new requirement, teens seeking a license must receive parental approval, complete a Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education course, pass a vision and hearing test as well as a written driver exam. After driving under a learner's license for a year, or reaching age 18, they can obtain a Florida driver's license. The FLHSMV requires a parent, legal guardian or responsible adult over 21 years old to complete a Certification of Minor Driving Experience Form, certifying the driver has 50 hours of driving experience, of which 10 hours must be at night. Road closures set ahead of Troy Strawberry Festival
Video: DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — With Troy's annual Strawberry Festival days away, the city announced this year's road closures. The three-day festival features a myriad of events that have become staples in Troy and to residents throughout the Miami Valley. Roads in downtown Troy will close beginning today and will all reopen by Monday, June 9. The square and the neighboring blocks up to Water Street, Mulberry Street, Franklin Street and Plum Street will be closed by 5 p.m. Wednesday. Franklin Street will close from Market Street to Plum Street. Cherry Street and Walnut Street will close between Water Street and Franklin Street, with accessible routes to parking lots until Friday afternoon. At 1 p.m. North Market Street will be closed from Water Street to Staunton Road, including the North Market Bridge. Riverside Drive between Duke Park and Adams Street will be closed from around 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. for the Strawberry Classic 5k/10k. More information on this year's festival is available here. Arrest made in gas station shooting that left 2 injured
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An arrest has been made in a shooting at a Hickory Hill gas station that left a man and a juvenile critically injured last month. Tariq Robinson, 21, is charged with two counts of criminal attempt first-degree murder, two counts of employment of a firearm with intent to commit a felony, and criminal attempt especially aggravated robbery. ORIGINAL STORY: Two injured in Hickory Hill gas station shooting On May 29, Memphis Police say they responded to the Circle K gas station on 6193 Mount Moriah Road Extended regarding a shooting call. A male victim was found sitting in he driver's seat of a Corolla suffering from a gunshot wound to his left hand and face. A juvenile victim was later found after he ran from the Corolla during the shooting. Police say the male juvenile was suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper left leg and abrasions to his face. They were both taken to the hospital in critical condition. Man allegedly shoots coworker after 'exchange of words' Video footage showed two men getting out of a white Nissan Altima and walking toward the two victims sitting in the Corolla. Witnesses say they saw one of the suspects running after the Corolla when it left the parking lot and began yelling, 'get out the car, get out the car' as it drove off. The suspect is then accused of firing shots into he back of the Corolla. On June 2, Memphis Police Violent Crime Unit investigators conducted a search warrant on the suspect's Nissan Altima. The investigators said a wallet was found in the front passenger side of the vehicle belonging to Kevon Chapman, and another was found in the backseat belonging to Tariq Robinson. Tariq Robinson was booked into jail on Tuesday. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday morning. His bond has yet to be set.
