ICE arrests 422 illegal migrants in Houston sweep, including suspects wanted for murder, arson

Fox News12-05-2025

EXCLUSIVE: Immigration and Customs Enforcement and removal officers in Houston arrested 422 suspected illegal immigrants during a weeklong operation.
During the operation, ICE officers targeted some of the most dangerous criminals, including an illegal migrant wanted in Colombia on murder charges.
Fox News exclusively embedded with officers for 10 hours as ICE officers arrested an illegal alien they say is wanted for murder in Colombia, at his apartment complex.
"He has a homicide conviction in Colombia and was sentenced to 21 years there," ICE Houston Director Bret Bradford said. "He entered the United States illegally in February of 2024 was given a court date for an immigration hearing and released. He did not show up for that court date, so in March of this year, he was ordered removed by an immigration judge here in the United States.
"The biggest thing for me is public safety," Bradford said.
Of the 422 arrests, 262 have criminal convictions, 34 have pending convictions, 126 have other immigration violations, and 229 had final orders of removal, according to ICE.
Another illegal alien removed during the operation was a 72-year-old migrant from Mexico who was ordered removed from the U.S. in 2018, and has been convicted of homicide, robbery, shoplifting and assault.
During the operation, a 40-year-old twice-deported criminal alien from Mexico was seen trying flee in his vehicle and then on foot before he eventually was captured. According to ICE, Hector Castillo-Garcia was convicted of several charges while in the U.S. illegally, including arson, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and driving while intoxicated.
The Houston ICE Field Office has an operation center with analysts dedicated to developing these targets.
"They are doing the database research to get the worst of the worst, the ones who have the most significant threat to public safety," Bradford said. "And then we want to look at the information we have on that individual, make sure it's a viable target, make sure we have good addresses, go out and do surveillance so we can see if we can a pattern of the subjects' movements and behavior. So, we want to kind of combine the worst of the worst plus the ones we have the most likelihood of encountering and arresting, trying to merge those two things together to come up with the top targets."
ICE is also ramping up its efforts to remove illegal migrants by swiftly transferring those with final removal orders to designated hubs, where they are deported immediately to their home countries.
This "hub and spoke" system, which speeds up the removal process, has just started recently, according to the ICE field director.
"We can arrest the individual this morning, process him this afternoon, and have him on a removal flight this evening, same day, saving taxpayer cost and just making it more efficient and expedited process to get these folks out of the country," said Bradford.
Fox News got exclusive footage of 80 detainees in Houston boarding one of the flights bound for the El Paso, Texas, hub.

Trump border czar responds to Newsom's 'arrest me' challenge as California riots over ICE raids

Trump border czar Tom Homan fired back at California Gov. Gavin Newsom after the Democrat dared Homan to arrest him while defending the state's handling of anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles. "He's a tough guy, why doesn't he do that [arrest me]? He knows where to find me," Newsom told MSNBC Sunday. "Come after me, arrest me, let's just get it over with. Tough guy. I don't give a damn, but I care about my community… and I'm sorry to be so clear, but that kind of bloviating is exhausting. So Tom, arrest me." The governor's taunt came after Homan warned Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass could face federal charges for trying to impede ICE operations throughout the city, according to The New York Post. Homan told "Fox & Friends" on Monday that he had told an NBC reporter that "no one's above the law," but there was no discussion about arresting Newsom. "What we discussed was for those protesters that crossed the line… you can protest, you get your First Amendment rights, but when you cross that line, you put hands on an ICE officer or you destroy property or I'd say that you impede law enforcement, or you're knowingly harboring and concealing an illegal alien, that's a crime, and the Trump administration is not going to tolerate it," he said. "Then the reporter asked me, well, could Governor Newsom or Mayor Bass be arrested? I said, 'Well no one's above the law. If they cross the line and commit a crime, absolutely they can,' so there was no discussion about arresting Newsom." Homan lambasted the blue state's response to riots against the Trump administration's immigration raids that rocked Los Angeles over the weekend, with some protesters throwing projectiles at law enforcement and torching American flags and cars. President Donald Trump deployed 2,000 National Guard troops to the city in an effort to quell some of the unrest, much to the dismay of Democratic officials. "It showed what [Newsom has] done. He's failed that state. He waited two days of that city burning and people getting hurt, officers being assaulted before he made any declaration of an unlawful assembly," Homan said. "He's late to the game. President Trump isn't late to game. The men and women of ICE are not late to the game." The violent protests erupted as ICE officials carried out plans to remove individuals illegally residing in the left-wing city, which dubbed itself a "sanctuary" for illegal immigrants in November before Trump was sworn back into the Oval Office. Homan explained that ICE was serving criminal warrants at a business being investigated for money laundering, consumer fraud and "serious violations" of sending money to criminal cartels in Latin American countries. ICE raids began on Friday, with Mayor Bass issuing a statement supporting illegal immigrants in the city and bucking the Trump administration's deportation efforts. Newsom similarly criticized ICE efforts, branding the immigration raids "chaotic and reckless." "Continued chaotic federal sweeps, across California, to meet an arbitrary arrest quota are as reckless as they are cruel. Donald Trump's chaos is eroding trust, tearing families apart, and undermining the workers and industries that power America's economy," a statement from the governor read.

Defense expert delivers devastating blow to prosecution theory in Karen Read murder trial as case nears end

A crash reconstructionist returned to the stand in Karen Read's murder trial Monday, the proceeding's 29th day, as her defense prepares to rest its case this week. She is accused of killing her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe, by clipping him with her 2021 Lexus LX 570 SUV on Jan. 29, 2022, and leaving him to die on the ground in a record-setting blizzard. Before jurors arrived, Judge Beverly Cannone heard motions regarding rebuttal testimony and to preclude or limit expert witnesses. She said she would hold an additional evidentiary hearing to determine what Dr. Elizabeth Laposata, a Rhode Island forensic pathologist and professor at Brown University, can testify in front of jurors. David Yannetti, one of Read's defense lawyers, told the court that her legal team believes O'Keefe was "placed" on the ground near a flagpole outside 34 Fairview Road in Canton, Massachusetts. Laposata is expected to discuss O'Keefe's injuries and how and where he could have suffered them. The home is about 20 miles south of Boston. Read, O'Keefe and others went there for an after-party on Jan. 28, 2022. Dr. Daniel Wolfe, the reconstrucitonist from a firm called ARCCA, testified last week that damage to Read's SUV is inconsistent with the type of impact that prosecutors allege left O'Keefe dead early the following morning. GET REAL-TIME UPDATES DIRECTLY ON THE TRUE CRIME HUB But on cross-examination, he conceded that flying fragments of a taillight could have been the source of injuries to O'Keefe's face and nose before he suffered a fractured skull from what prosecution experts testified was a backward fall. Read has pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder, drunken driving manslaughter and leaving the scene. Her defense maintains that her vehicle never struck O'Keefe and that his injuries were caused in some other manner after she left. Read could face life in prison if convicted of the top charge. Jurors deadlocked at her first trial last year on the same charges.

‘Sex pest' Jared Leto denies claims of lewd behaviour made against him by 9 women

Nine women have accused actor and singer Jared Leto of inappropriate behaviour. The women allege that his behaviour is 'predatory, terrifying and unacceptable', according to an expose by Air Mail. Jared (53) is accused of engaging in inappropriate behaviour over the years, including flirting with teenagers. One of his alleged victims was just 16 years old when Jared allegedly approached her and grabbed her by the arm while she was outside a café in Los Angeles. 'We had a quick conversation, and he got my number,' she said. She added that Jared called her home a few days later, recalling: 'I don't know if he was on drugs or what . . . It was the weirdest, grossest voice . . . [But] for me, it's Jared, you know?' She said that Jared told her he was hosting a party at his house that evening and invited her to it. The woman declined, saying, 'I didn't even have a driver's licence.' Nevertheless, she said, Jared kept calling her, 'always at one, two, three AM'. And the conversations turned sexual. 'He'd ask things like: 'Have you ever had a boyfriend? Have you ever sucked a d***?'' she told the publication. They started texting and she would visit his studio. Laura claims Jared once walked into a room nude 'like it was normal' when she was 17. 'I thought maybe this was just what adult men do,' she said. Another victim, who was underage when she first started chatting to Jared, alleged that he would ask inappropriate questions when she'd go to his house, such as, 'Do any of the little boys you hang out with f*** you?' She said that when she turned 18, the actor masturbated in front of her at his house and forced her to touch him. This is not the first time Jared has faced accusations of inappropriate behaviour. In 2012, Los Angeles-based DJ Allie Teilz wrote about her encounter with him on Facebook, saying, 'You're not really in LA until Jared Leto tries to force himself on you backstage . . . In a kilt. And a snow hat.' The DJ recently wrote on her Instagram stories, 'I was assaulted and traumatised by this creep when I was 17 . . . He knew my age and didn't care. What he did was predatory, terrifying and unacceptable.' The actor has denied the accusations against him, and insists Allie was lying. He added that nothing about his conversation with Laura was inappropriate, and a spokesperson's statement said that 'Ms La Rue later applied to work as Mr Leto's personal assistant, further underscoring the absence of anything inappropriate in any of their interactions. All of the allegations are expressly denied.'
