NHL Announces Big Update to Stars-Jets Playoff Series

Yahoo10-05-2025

The Winnipeg Jets were able to hold off the Dallas Stars in Game 2, evening up the best-of-seven playoff series. Winnipeg showed why they were the best team in the NHL all season long, shutting out the explosive Dallas offense.
Goalie Connor Hellebuyck was special for the Jets in this game, making 21 saves in the 4-0 win. Hellebuyck has been a big question mark for Winnipeg throughout the postseason, and the team has pulled him in a number of games.

But at least for one night, the star goalie earned his spotlight. After the Jets evened the series, it meant that they would be getting at least one more game in front of the home fans.
The NHL has updated the series schedule, announcing the start time for Game 5. Game 5 between these two teams will take place on Thursday, May 15, at 9:30 p.m. ET.
As the series now shifts over to Dallas for Games 3 and 4, the pressure will be on Hellebuyck to continue his strong play. The veteran goalie spoke about his performance after the fact.
'There were stretches in the first round where I really liked my game. Just wasn't in the results, but built it back better,' Hellebuyck said after making 21 saves in a 4-0 win against the Dallas Stars in Game 2 of the Western Conference Second Round at Canada Life Centre on Friday.

'I like where we're at. The team in front of me is playing phenomenal, so we're going to have fun. Just continue to have fun.'

Stephanie White Reveals Encouraging Injury Update Amid Caitlin Clark's Absence

Stephanie White Reveals Encouraging Injury Update Amid Caitlin Clark's Absence originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever are off to a rough start in the 2025 WNBA season with a 2-4 record and three losses in a row. Caitlin Clark has missed the last two games due to a left quadriceps strain and won't return until she's fully recovered. The original timeline was at least two weeks, but it's only been one week so far. Advertisement While the Fever need others to step up in Clark's absence, two more players were injured in Friday's loss to the Connecticut Sun: Sydney Colson and Sophie Cunningham. Colson, who started at point guard in Clark's place, suffered a left leg injury in the first quarter. Cunningham, meanwhile, re-aggravated the right ankle that kept her out of the first two games of the season in the fourth quarter. Fans were concerned after neither player returned. But on Sunday, head coach Stephanie White shared an update on both players, saying they are "day-to-day," and "we got good news." "I think we got good news from both of their MRIs, as good of news as you can get," White said. 'And so right now, it's a day-to-day thing. We're looking forward to hopefully them returning at some point sooner rather than later, but at the same time, it's how each of them progresses in their rehab.' Colson did get some shots up afterward, and Dantas was given a rest day. Advertisement Fever president Kelly Krauskopf told the media on Sunday that the team has looked into adding a player to the roster before Tuesday's game against the Washington Mystics, given the recent injuries. 'We're down in numbers," Krauskopf said. "But we're looking at adding another player for a replacement player. Help us with our numbers and try to get people healthy and try to get a full roster back together. I mean, game are still coming, so it's going to be an adjustment. But we have a good group. We have good depth. Thankfully, that should help us." Connor McDavid shrugs off Stanley Cup superstition with surprising reason

If you're an NHL fan, you know the drill. If your team wins the Eastern or Western Conference title before heading to the Stanley Cup Finals, your captain is presented with a trophy. In the East, it's the Prince of Wales Trophy. In the West, it's the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl. Advertisement Got it? Good. Because it's what comes next that counts: there's a superstition that you should NOT touch those trophies or it's bad luck before the Stanley Cup Finals. The logic, I think, is that you'd want to touch the trophy that counts over the one that's secondary. TIME FOR CONNOR MCDAVID TO FINALLY WIN IT ALL: Read our take on the Oilers captain Connor McDavid ignored that on Thursday night after the Edmonton Oilers took down the Dallas Stars. Other teams have done so at their own peril, but it's been no big deal in recent years, weirdly. Teams out of both the East and West have touched the winning trophy, then gone on to win the other, much bigger (and bigger deal) trophy for hockey immortality. Oilers fans were worried: But listen to McDavid, who has been here before: the Oilers DIDN'T touch it last year and lost to the Panthers. So he's just trying to reverse the curse in a way: This is brilliant logic by McDavid. Real captain-level stuff there. Take a bow, put that trophy in your locker and then get focused for the task ahead. Also, it's superstition, right? Hockey players win games, not touching trophies or not. Got to love it. London Knights celebrate 3rd Memorial Cup win

The London Knights are Memorial Cup champions for a third time beating their opponents in a 4-1 victory Sunday night in Rimouski, Que. The team won against the Medicine Hat Tigers in the Canadian Major Junior championship game with Easton Cowan becoming the first player since 1972 to lead the tournament in scoring in consecutive years. Cowan, who scored seven goals, was named MVP for the series. The Knights won the Memorial Cup in 2005 and 2016. They came close in 2024, losing by one point to the Saginaw Spirit. Cowan is currently a Toronto Maple Leafs prospect and is tied with Leafs right-winger Mitch Marner for the most Memorial Cup points in franchise history. London poured it on with three goals in the second period Sunday to take a commanding lead. London and Medicine Hat dominated their respective leagues en route to the Memorial Cup. At the moment, The Knights have 12 NHL draft picks.
