'Keep sailing on': Stanleyson Antas on music, legacy, and life in Vanuatu
Ni-Vanuatu reggae legend Stanleyson Antas joined Nesia Daily in the studio to reflect on his journey performing across Vanuatu to re-imagining his songs on a new acoustic EP, Akoustic Volume 1 (Play On).
Stripping back to just guitar and vocals, Stanley shared that creating the EP allowed him to reconnect with the heart of songwriting and "focus on the lyrics."
Throughout the show, he performed three live version of the songs Sailing, Justice, and No Worries.
Also in the program, we checked in with Nesian Footy co-host, Tinirau Arona for a recap of the weekend's NRL matches, and Sose Fuamoli for a preview of this week's On The Record episode.

Tahitian musician and composer Teiva Viaris makes powerful solo debut with ocean-inspired track 'Hī Rau E'
The release of award-winning Tahitian composer and multi-instrumentalist Teiva Viaris' debut song Hī Rau E is just one chapter in his story as a musician. Born and raised in Tahiti, Viaris taught himself guitar at 10 years old, he said he "never envisioned to make living out of it, but it just stayed with me through everything," he told Nesia Daily. The talented artist shared how he juggles his time as a part-time music teacher, sound designer, and lead composer for the award-winning traditional dance group, Ia Ora Te Hura, which he co-founded with his wife. Originally commissioned by the Tahitian Ministry of Environment but never used, Hī Rau E became such a deeply personal project, leading Viaris to release it as his debut song. Sung entirely in the Tahitian language, the hypnotic track explores "the ocean, and the relationship Polynesian people have with the ocean," said the artist. "The phenomenon behind the birth of the islands, volcanic islands from the ocean. And then it draws a parallel between this phenomenon and the inner-functioning of the human body. So that's how the bond between humans and [the] ocean is established in the song." The accompanying animated music video, created by Mexican 2D artist Erick Cuevas a.k.a Nespy 5 Euro, is rich with references to Polynesian myths and legends — he says, carefully researched to ensure the "graphic vocabulary was respectful and authentic." Whether composing for dance, film, or now as a solo artist, Viaris remains grounded in cultural storytelling, sharing this advice for young musicians out there, "just be authentic, just be yourself. If you feel like you can express yourself in your music, then you're on the right path."

ABC Radio Australia's Pacific Break returns in 2025
ABC Radio Australia's Pacific Break, the Pacific's biggest music competition, is back for 2025. From Friday 27 June 2025, the search begins to discover the Pacific and Timor Leste's best original artist. The winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to perform at WOMADelaide, Australia's biggest international music, arts and dance festival. This year, Pacific Break launches for the first time in Samoa with a free, star-studded concert at iconic Friendship Park in downtown Apia. On the line-up are Pacific music's biggest names including Pacific Break past winners Chris Rohoimae (2024, Solomon Islands), Ju Ben (2023, Fiji) and Danielle (2022, Papua New Guinea) and Samoan superstars, country music icon Mr Cowboy and soulful vocal queen Tofaga Meke. Pacific Break's 2025 judges have also been announced, with Australian-based Fijian artist and label head Joji Malani joining returning judges PNG-born Australian neo soul diva Ngaiire, WOMADelaide Associate Director Annette Tripodi, and ABC Radio Australia music presenters, Hau Lātūkefu ( In The Fale ) and Sose Fuamoli ( Sista Sounds and On The Record ). According to Malani, "Pacific Break has played an important role in showcasing talent from across the Pacific in a way no other competition has done before. There is a unique sophistication within our cultures—deeply rooted yet universally relatable—and Pacific Break provides a platform to share that with the world. I'm humbled to contribute, even in a small way, to this important movement.' Fuamoli said: 'It is exciting to see the return of Pacific Break for 2025! It is such a special platform for a diverse range of artists from throughout the region. In previous years we have seen how both winners and finalists have benefited from the radio, television and social support of the competition and I look forward to meeting this year's class of nominees and seeing who takes out the top honour for 2025.' Lātūkefu said: 'The talent pool in our neck of the woods is so deep. It always has been. We just need the opportunities for our musicians' talent to be seen and to be heard.
