There's One Reason Your Air Fryer Wings Aren't Turning Out Perfect

CNET14-05-2025

Perfecting air fryer chicken wings takes some technique. The most crucial step? Always cook your wings in a single, even layer. Overcrowding the air fryer or stacking the wings will result in uneven cooking, and worse, soggy skin.
If you're making a larger batch than what fits in one layer, cook the wings in multiple rounds. Make sure none overlap. While the wings will shrink as they cook, it's still important to give each piece enough space to crisp up properly.
You have no shortage of sauce options or spice combos to try when making air fryer wings -- so don't be afraid to experiment. As long as you nail the cooking steps and don't under- or overcook them, you're likely to end up with a restaurant-quality snack that costs a fraction of the price and takes very little effort to whip up.
Here's how to nail air fryer chicken wings next and every time.
Ingredients for buffalo chicken wings
1 pack chicken wings (about 15 wings)
1/2 cup Frank's RedHot Hot Sauce
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon pepper
How to make air fryer chicken wings in 25 minutes
Step 1: Pat dry the chicken wings and place them in a large mixing bowl and drizzle olive oil over them.
Step 2: Combine the seasonings and sprinkle them on the wings, then mix well so that the meat is fully covered.

Step 3: Place the wings in a single layer in the air fryer and cook at 400 degrees for 10 minutes, then flip them and cook for another 10 minutes. Do not overcrowd the air fryer, and cook them in multiple batches if needed.
Don't stack the chicken wings in the air fryer. Instead, make sure they're all in a single layer.

Step 4: While the wings are cooking, melt the unsalted butter in a small saucepan. Add Frank's RedHot Hot Sauce (or a hot sauce of your choosing) and simmer on low heat for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
If you would rather use a buffalo sauce instead of traditional hot sauce, you do not need to add butter to this recipe.

Step 5: When the wings are done cooking and have reached an internal temperature of at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit, place them in a clean mixing bowl and pour the buffalo sauce mixture over them.
These air fryer chicken wings are simple and quick, making them perfect for a week night meal.

Step 6: Toss the wings until they're fully coated and serve immediately with dipping sauce and carrots and celery.
These wings are perfectly crispy every time.

Social Security June 2025: Here's When the Next Round of Payments Will Be Sent Out

The first round of Social Security payments were sent out earlier this week, to people who've been receiving benefits since before May 1997 and those who also receive Supplemental Security Income. For everyone else, when you get paid depends on when you were born. We'll explain. Social Security benefit payments are sent monthly to people who've applied for their retirement, survivors or disability benefits. The payments are sent in waves throughout the month. When you receive your Social Security check is determined by how long you've been receiving benefits, whether you receive additional government benefits, or the day of the month you were born. Not sure when you should be receiving your payment? We break it down, below. Read on to find out how your payment date is determined, when you should receive your check, and the full payment schedule for the month of June. For more, don't miss CNET's Social Security and SSDI cheat sheet. Want to know which day of the month you'll receive your check? This is the Social Security and SSDI payment schedule for June. Social Security payments are typically paid out starting on the second Wednesday of the month. The remaining two payments will be paid out on the following two Wednesdays of the month. Which week you receive your payment depends on your birthdate. There is one big exception, which we'll cover below. If you've received Social Security benefits since before May 1997, or receive Social Security and Supplemental Security Income, your payment schedule isn't determined by your birthdate. Instead, payments are paid out every month on the same date with a couple of exceptions. Social Security payments will be sent out on the 3rd of each month, while SSI payments are sent out on the 1st of each month. These dates will sometimes change if the 1st or the 3rd of the month falls on a weekend or holiday. For example, March 3 of last year fell on a weekend, so Social Security recipients received their March payments two days early, on March 1. The only benefits that are paid on the same schedule are Social Security and Social Security Disability Insurance. An executive order from the White House will end the use of paper Social Security checks on Sept. 30. This means all payments after that date will be sent digitally, including direct deposits, debit and credit cards, digital wallets and other real-time payment systems to reduce the overall cost of sending physical checks to beneficiaries. The decision is not surprising when you consider that only 485,766 Social Security checks are mailed each month, which pales in comparison to the 68,104,184 direct deposit payments made each month. While this will undoubtedly be an adjustment period for those people who have been receiving physical checks, moving mailed benefits payments to digital forms will increase security. It's important to note that some exclusions will be made for certain individuals. If your check fails to arrive when it's supposed to or not at all, the Social Security Administration suggests waiting three additional mailing days before contacting it. After that, you can call the national toll-free number: 1-800-772-1213. The SSA notes that "wait times to speak to a representative are typically shorter in the morning, later in the week and later in the month." If you're having trouble reaching the SSA through the national number, you can use its office locator to find a local office. You Probably Touch This Kitchen Staple Every Day. But When's the Last Time You Cleaned It?

Now that it's summer, my toaster is working overtime-cranking out slices for avocado toast, breakfast sandwiches and late-night snacks. But as much as I rely on it, I used to forget one important thing: cleaning it. After enough use, I started noticing weird smells and uneven browning, and that's when I realized the culprit wasn't the bread -- it was the mess hiding inside the toaster. Crumbs pile up fast, and if you don't clean them out regularly, they can burn, stink and even turn into a fire risk. Worse? Leftover food bits can attract bugs, especially in hot weather. Luckily, giving your toaster a deep clean is easier than you think. It takes just a few minutes, doesn't require any fancy tools and can save your breakfast (and your kitchen) from disaster. For more cleaning tips, learn how to wash your bedding the right way and how to clean your kitchen in under 15 minutes. How to clean out your toaster If you use your toaster as often as I do (daily), you'll need to clean it at least once a week. If you use it sporadically, you can get away with cleaning it every few weeks or so, or when you notice food remnants building up. Here's the best way to clean your toaster: CNET 1. Unplug your toaster and do the usual upside-down shake thing over the sink. No, just shaking the appliance over the sink isn't entirely effective. 2. Pull out the crumb tray, if it has one, and then wash it with warm water and dish soap. 3. While you let the crumb tray dry, dampen a cotton cloth with a little white vinegar and wipe out the slots where the bread, pop tarts or other treats sit. 4. If there's stuck-on food residue left over from breakfast pastries on the heating elements, gently brush them with an old toothbrush dampened with white vinegar. 5. Wipe the insides down with a water-dampened cloth to remove any vinegar residue. 6. Give the toaster one last good upside-down shake. 7. Wipe down the outside of the toaster with another dampened cloth. Let the toaster dry inside and out completely before plugging it back in. It should only take a couple of hours to dry. Frequently asked questions Can you submerge a toaster in water to clean it? No, you should never submerge any electrical appliance in water, as it can damage the internal components. How do I get burn marks off the toaster? If you've gone a long time without cleaning your toaster, you may have some burn marks on the top of it leaving an unsightly brown mark. To fix this you can make a paste of equal parts water and baking soda and while the toaster is still unplugged, scrub with a toothbrush or non-abrasive sponge. Afterward, wipe it clean with a soft, damp cloth to remove the paste. More home cleaning tips

Officials face immense backlash over multibillion-dollar plans to carve out natural lands to build new airport: 'Worse than we could have imagined'

Officials have sparked backlash after unveiling a new master plan for Montreal airport that severely reduces the amount of green space surrounding the site, the Montreal Gazette reported. Under the plan, only about 10% of the previously planned green space would remain. Conservationists and locals fought back after the release of the long-awaited 20-year master development plan for the Montreal-Trudeau International Airport, per the Gazette. While multiple local municipalities, including the City of Montreal, have passed resolutions supporting the creation of a 230-hectare (568-acre) green space surrounding the airport, the new master plan, released by Aéroports de Montréal, calls for preserving only 25 hectares (62 acres) of wetland space. "What we see is worse than we could have imagined," Katherine Collin of TechnoparcOiseaux, a group advocating for the conservation of green space around the Montreal airport, told the Gazette. "Development is planned over vital habitat for endangered and threatened species." The diminished green space appeared to be at odds with ADM's promises of environmental stewardship. In the master plan, ADM asserted that its sustainability goals included promoting "a healthy, high-quality environment in its communities." ADM president and director general Yves Beauchamp argued at a public meeting that green spaces around airports are unsafe for passengers due to the risk of bird strikes. However, opponents pointed out that other airports, including those in Canada, can operate safely with large green spaces nearby. Despite the opposition, ADM claimed that the developed areas would be better for the environment than green space, as they would be used for solar panels and to store cleaner fuels for aircraft. Critics have accused Beauchamp and ADM of engaging in the corporate practice of greenwashing, or promoting supposedly pro-environment practices that are more about publicity and appearances than actual impact. Green spaces provide crucial health, economic, and environmental benefits, particularly in urban settings. According to the Natural History Museum in London, green space significantly reduces air pollution while also limiting the urban heat island effect. Because of the prevalence of paved ground and tightly packed buildings, cities can be 3 to 4 degrees Celsius (5.4 to 7.2 degrees Fahrenheit) hotter than the surrounding countryside. Do you think America is in a housing crisis? Definitely Not sure No way Only in some cities Click your choice to see results and speak your mind. Green vegetation combats this effect by limiting the amount of heat-radiating concrete, absorbing sunlight, and creating shade. Even within human-made environments, green spaces will develop ecosystems that become self-sustaining, which ultimately saves money, said Cecil Konijnendijk, a professor of urban forestry at the University of British Columbia. In Montreal and around the world, conservationists are fighting to preserve existing green spaces and reestablish green spaces where they have been lost. If you'd like to make a difference in your own community, you can join a conservation group or even create your own green spaces that can conserve water and help pollinators and other local species.
