
Oman sees all countries as friends: Sayyid Badr at IOC2025
The 8th edition of the IOC began in Muscat today (February 16-17 ) under the theme 'Voyage to New Horizons of Maritime Partnership.'
This edition will highlight the importance of inclusivity and building new partnerships in the maritime sector and is expected to host participants from over 60 countries and international organizations, reflecting the region's strategic importance and the need for collaborative solutions.
Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Albusaidi, Foreign Minister, is a member of the presidium committee for the conference, underscoring Oman's leadership role in this initiative.
"Our approach in Oman helps us solve problems and difficulties sustainably, and history has shown that this approach is constructive and successful. For thousands of years, Oman has been a crossing point for countries and oceans and a bridge for the exchange of cultures and trade. The Sultanate of Oman sees all countries as friends and is committed to promoting integration and inclusiveness at the Indian Ocean level.
There are great challenges, not all countries have a peaceful outlook. There may be strong waves pushing us in different directions, but our goal is to achieve peace."
The Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) is an annual international platform dedicated to promoting regional cooperation and addressing challenges in the Indian Ocean region. It brings together, heads of government, senior officials, private sector representatives, scholars, and experts to discuss issues of mutual concern, including maritime security, economic development, environmental sustainability, and geopolitics.
The event fosters dialogue and collaboration among countries bordering the Indian Ocean, as well as global powers with strategic interests in the region.
Since its establishment in 2016, the IOC has served as a significant forum for fostering dialogue and cooperation. Countries such as India, Sri Lanka, Australia, Oman, and Singapore have played central roles in its proceedings. The conference addresses traditional security concerns, such as naval power and territorial disputes, alongside emerging challenges like climate change, natural disasters, and economic disruptions.
The discussions will focus on promoting regional cooperation, enhancing maritime security, amplifying the voice of the Global South, and tackling major challenges in the maritime sector.
The conference will explore strategies to improve trade corridors, ensure freedom of navigation, foster environmental sustainability, and leverage technological advancements for port security and governance.
Participants will have opportunities for bilateral and multilateral engagements to strengthen relationships and identify new areas of collaboration.

Oman, Iran unveil joint commemorative stamp
Muscat – The Sultanate of Oman and Islamic Republic of Iran released a joint commemorative stamp on Tuesday celebrating the deep-rooted cultural and historical ties between the two nations. The stamp was officially unveiled at Al Alam Palace in Muscat by H E Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, and Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran. The ceremony coincided with the official visit of Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, President of Iran, to the sultanate. Sayyid Nasr bin Badr al Busaidi, Chairman of Oman Post, said the stamp reflects the strong cultural bonds and mutual commitment to values of good neighbourliness, cooperation and people-to-people engagement. The design showcases Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat framed by palm trees symbolising resilience and heritage, juxtaposed with Iran's historic Jameh Mosque of Bastak, framed by cypress trees, long revered in Persian culture as symbols of eternity and continuity. At the centre of the design is a hand-woven Persian carpet, inspired by a famed carpet at Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. Crafted in Iran's Khorasan Province, it features intricate floral motifs representing the rich artistic traditions shared by both countries. The stamp marks enhanced cooperation in postal services between the two nations, opening new avenues for bilateral partnership and cultural diplomacy.

HM, Iranian President grace signing of agreements, MoUs
Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian of the Islamic Republic of Iran, graced at Al Alam Palace on Tuesday the signing of five cooperation agreements, ten memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and three executive programmes. This took place during the official visit of the Iranian President to the Sultanate of Oman. The first agreement was a legal and judicial cooperation agreement in civil and criminal matters, extradition of accused persons, and transfer of sentenced individuals. It was signed from the Omani side by Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al Busaidi, Minister of Interior, and from the Iranian side by Dr Amin Hossein Rahimi, Minister of Justice. The second framework agreement for joint cooperation, signed from the Omani side by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, and from the Iranian side by Dr Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs. The third agreement pertains to the encouragement and mutual protection of investments, signed from the Omani side by Sultan bin Salim al Habsi, Minister of Finance, and from the Iranian side by Seyed Mohammad Atabak, Minister of Industry, Mining, and Trade. The fourth agreement pertains to mutual administrative assistance in customs matters, signed from the Omani side by Sultan bin Salim al Habsi, Minister of Finance, and from the Iranian side by Seyed Mohammad Atabak, Minister of Industry, Mining, and Trade. Iran is reviewing Oman's proposals on nuclear talks: Araqchi
Tehran - Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said his country is reviewing proposals put forward by Oman during the latest round of negotiations between Iran and the United States, quoted the IRNA news agency. The Iranian minister diplomat said on Sunday that the proposals were put forward by his Omani counterpart, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, during the fifth round of negotiations between Tehran and Washington, which took place on Friday in Italy's capital, Rome. Araqchi added that Iran is currently reviewing the proposals that are aimed are removing hurdles. He made the comments on the sidelines of a ceremony commemorating Africa Day in Tehran.
