Switch 2 Breaks Records By Selling Over 3.5 Million Units In Four Days

Forbesa day ago

The Switch 2 has had a pretty momentous launch.
Nintendo
The Switch 2 has managed to break records by selling over 3.5 million units globally in its first four days on sale.
Despite the expectations that the increased price point of the console and its games would harm sales, it seems the opposite is now true.
According to Nintendo, the Switch 2 has been their fastest-selling console in the history of the company, as it amassed over 3.5 million sales in its first four days.
That exceeds what the original Switch managed, and that went on to be a huge success, almost selling as much as the PlayStation 2 in its lifetime.
Considering how Zelda: Breath of the Wild made the original Switch fly off shop shelves back in 2017, it now seems that Mario Kart World has indeed done what many suspected.
In that, while Breath of the Wild was a huge seller for the first Switch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe managed to sell more than double that.
With that in mind, it makes sense that you would make an open-world Mario Kart game to kick-start your next console.
I've had a lot of fun with Mario Kart World, and you can read my review if you are at all curious about the game, but it's clear now that this combination at launch for the Switch 2 has been very successful.
As for how the Switch 2 has done in Japan, it's a bit different compared to the first Switch launch. Mainly because many bought the console online from Nintendo's site directly, which meant that there has been steady stock in most shops here as a result.
The other interesting thing is that the Japanese Switch 2 is sort of region locked to Japan, as it only supports Japanese language games. This is to hamper efforts from scalpers who bought the old multi-region Switch and sold it in places like China for a huge markup.
You can buy a multi-region Switch 2 in Japan, but only from Nintendo's official site, which is what I did, and that seems to have stopped the scalpers in their tracks, at least for now.
The flip side to all this is that the Japanese version of the Switch 2 has subsequently been more available, and that has no doubt helped its sales here.
The launch line-up of games for the Switch 2 has also been varied and strong, so it will be interesting to see how it performs over the next few months, once other big releases land on the system.

A Unified Framework For Inventory Optimization And Capacity Management

Dileep Kumar Rai is a global supply chain optimization expert, Oracle Fusion Cloud architect and demand forecasting leader. Modern supply chain operations present companies with two essential challenges: managing inventory levels properly to prevent excessive and insufficient stock and maintaining production capacity that matches changing market demands. While the separate management of these challenges creates siloed approaches, their combined impact determines customer satisfaction, operational efficiency and profitability. The core issue remains basic, yet resolving it is extremely difficult: • Excessive inventory leads to increased holding costs, which reduces profit margins and blocks essential working capital. • Insufficient inventory levels create stockout situations, which results in missed orders, revenue loss and harm to customer trust. • Production bottlenecks operate in the background to reduce throughput, which restricts a company from fulfilling orders even when inventory is present. Maintaining optimal inventory levels becomes critical in industries producing custom orders and storing products with high value and low sales velocity. The supply chain experiences multiple friction points because of procurement lead times, variable demand, multi-stage assembly and quality testing. I suggest the integrated inventory-capacity optimization (IICO) framework to tackle these interconnected challenges. This organized method aligns inventory policies with production conditions, employing a closed feedback loop to foster improvement. The framework consists of four core pillars: Knowing when and how much to reorder to meet demand without overstocking is at the heart of effective inventory management. We apply the classic QR Model (order quantity-reorder point model) to calculate: 1.1 Q = sqrt((2 * λ * S) / h) Where: 1.2. ROP. = dL + Z * σL Where: This model ensures optimal replenishment timing and quantity while incorporating variability and service level requirements. By integrating it directly into an ERP or procurement system, companies can automate purchase triggers when inventory approaches the calculated reorder point (ROP). Meeting demand is not just about having inventory—it's about the ability to process it. The next step is to measure capacity utilization across production or assembly stations: Utilization(U) = Actual Throughput / Machine Capacity A station operating near or at full utilization (>90%) may become a bottleneck, limiting overall throughput. This metric must account for both initial production and any rework or retesting loops that increase the effective load on machinery. Once high-utilization stations are identified, companies must determine: A bottleneck analysis quantifies the cost of capacity constraints in terms of lost orders and revenue compared to the investment required to expand capacity. This provides leadership with a clear ROI case for capital expenditure. Production systems seldom operate in a steady state. The IICO framework includes a feedback loop: This cycle ensures that capacity adjustments and inventory policies evolve as demand, process efficiency and supplier reliability change. While this framework originated from a real-world solution implemented within a high-stakes aerospace supply chain, its principles apply broadly to any operation where: The IICO framework provides a scalable, adaptable roadmap for synchronizing procurement, inventory management and production capacity in industries ranging from electronics to pharmaceuticals, automotive to luxury goods. By bridging inventory optimization and capacity management, organizations avoid a common pitfall: addressing stock levels without considering production constraints. Conversely, adding capacity without aligning inventory policies risks idle assets or ongoing shortages. A unified approach ensures: Operational agility is non-negotiable in a world of rising customer expectations and global supply chain disruptions. The IICO framework offers a structured, actionable pathway for companies balancing cost, capacity and customer satisfaction. This model transforms inventory and production management from reactive firefighting into proactive, strategic control by embedding predictive analytics, continuous improvement and cross-functional collaboration. Organizations ready to close the gap between inventory decisions and capacity realities will find in this framework not just a tool but a competitive advantage. Multiplayer returns to the Metal Gear franchise after twelve years

After an absence of 12 years, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is bringing back multiplayer, but Konami cautions fans to expect a completely different experience than the original Metal Gear Online. Announced at Konami's Press Start Live event, the new multiplayer mode titled Fox Hunt is something like hide-and-seek on steroids, with a dash of camouflage thrown in. According to Yu Sahara, director of the multiplayer aspect, 'Fox Hunt is a completely original online multiplayer mode. Although it shares the same world with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the gameplay is completely different.' That said, he did acknowledge the nostalgia fans have for the original Metal Gear Online. 'When we say Metal Gear multiplayer, many fans will probably think of Metal Gear Online, but Fox Hunt will be its own new type of mode. We very much appreciate all the long-time fans of MGO who have always wanted to see it make a comeback, but the landscape of multiplayer games has changed a lot since MGO. It took a lot of careful consideration to think about what a new online mode should look like.' Recommended Videos Sahara continues, 'We challenged ourselves to make something unique that is more than just a shoot-out. We've used that back-and-forth tension or searching out the enemy to create an online experience unique to Metal Gear.' Our passionate team of developers take us on an extended look into the creation of METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER and its bonus content 🐍 ❗#KonamiPressStart — KONAMI UK (@KONAMIUK) June 12, 2025 Though the team shared no further details, Sahara said he will have more information later and asked fans to stay tuned to Konami's official pages to find out more. Konami also revealed more information about the main game, including updates to its AI and animations. In addition to news about Metal Gear Solid, the Press Start Live event also announced that the Suikoden I & II Remaster is coming to Nintendo Switch 2. Horror fans can celebrate, too: Konami also announced a remake of the first Silent Hill game is in the works.
