FIFA Club World Cup: Bayern beats Flamengo, will face PSG in repeat fixture of UCL 2019-20 final
Harry Kane scored his second and third goals of the FIFA Club World Cup to power Bayern Munich into the quarterfinals with a 4-2 victory over Flamengo in an entertaining second-round clash on Sunday in Miami Gardens, Florida.
Bayern also scored through an early own goal and through Leon Goretzka just before half-time to seal a meeting with reigning UEFA Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain, which defeated Inter Miami 4-0 earlier Sunday.
In their most-recent meeting, Bayern defeated PSG 1-0 in Munich in the UCL league phase back on November 26.
Gerson and Jorginho scored for Flamengo, which became the second of four Brazilian teams eliminated after Botafogo lost in extra time to domestic rivals Palmeiras on Saturday.
After defeating Chelsea 3-1 in Group D play, the Rio de Janeiro side was resilient after going behind by two early.
But Kane's second in the 73rd minute ultimately sealed Bayern's passage and Flamengo's first defeat in 11 matches across all competitions.
Joshua Kimmich fed Kane just above the penalty arc following a sloppy Flamengo giveaway. The Englishman turned slickly, then fired a low, right-footed effort into the bottom right corner for his 41st goal in all club competitions this season.
An early second-half penalty brought Flamengo back into the game.
Referee Michael Oliver pointed immediately to the spot after a Flamengo cross from the right struck Michael Olise's outstretched arm.
Jorginho powered in a confident penalty to rouse the majority of the crowd supporting one of Brazil's most decorated clubs.
Bayern started brightly and were quickly 2-0 in front.
In the sixth minute, Kimmich's inswinging corner from the right skimmed off the head of defender Erick Pulgar, who couldn't get high enough in traffic to clear the ball and instead redirected accidentally inside the far post.
Three minutes later, Dayot Upamecano's excellent challenge forced Giorgian de Arrascaeta into a turnover. Kane picked up the ball, drove briefly toward goal then unleashed a low shot from 22 yards that took a deflection on its way into the bottom left corner.
Flamengo responded in the 33rd minute, with Gerson reaching Luiz Araujo's layoff and powering a first-time half volley past Manuel Neuer.
But Goretzka restored Bayern's two-goal advantage eight minutes later when he guided his finish from beyond the box through traffic into the bottom left corner.

Soccer-Paris St Germain remind fans of their power ahead of Bayern clash
By Julien Pretot Soccer-Paris St Germain remind fans of their power ahead of Bayern clash MIAMI, - When Paris Saint-Germain are in full flight they remind fans why they are one of the most dangerous teams in world football, as they showed in their blistering 4-0 win against Inter Miami at the Club World Cup on Sunday. The demolition of the MLS side was a statement of how devastating European champions PSG can be when their collective talent snaps into perfect sync. The way they dismantled Lionel Messi's Miami outfit in a suffocating first-half blitz will have not gone unnoticed by their quarter-final opponents Bayern Munich. Under a closed roof in Atlanta in a game played with a controlled temperature of 19 degrees Celsius, Luis Enrique's side pressed with relentless energy, moved the ball with purpose, and choked the life out of their opponents. "We started the match really well and imposed our rhythm," said Bradley Barcola after the game. "We had a bit of fatigue in the group phase but we rested. When we're in form like this, nobody can stop us." Joao Neves, who starred with two goals in a man-of-the-match performance, reflected the team's relentless mindset. "We will continue to play our game no matter the opponent," the Portugal midfielder said. Luis Enrique, who has turned PSG into a cohesive, ruthless unit, stressed that their ability to stay focused was key. "We started the match in the best possible way, with concentration and the right mentality to play our football from the first minutes," the Spaniard said "We deserved our lead at halftime and after that it was a completely different match because the result dictated everything." His words reflected satisfaction with the performance and an awareness that maintaining such intensity is the key to finally delivering on PSG's long-held ambitions. As the Paris side prepare for a far tougher test against Bayern in the quarter-finals on Saturday, the emphatic display served as a timely reminder of their immense potential. "PSG are a top team, European champions," Bayern striker Harry Kane said. "We played them once this year and we came out on top but it was a difficult game and we know the qualities they have and we'll have to be ready." However, Kane, who scored twice in his side's 4-2 win against Flamemgo in the last 16, was also oozing confidence. "... we feel that when we're on top of our game, we can defeat anyone and we're going into this game with no different feeling." Fluminense stun Inter Milan to reach Club World Cup quarters
Fluminense sent Inter Milan packing from the Club World Cup on Monday with a 2-0 win in Charlotte that took the Brazilian side through to the quarter-finals. Fluminense stun Inter Milan to reach Club World Cup quarters German Cano's header from close range gave Fluminense an early lead and they then withstood an onslaught from the Italian side in the second half before substitute Hercules sealed their victory late on. The Rio de Janeiro outfit, who qualified for the Club World Cup thanks to their Copa Libertadores triumph in 2023, become the second Brazilian side to make the last eight after Palmeiras had already sealed their quarter-final spot. Captained by 40-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva, 'Flu' will now go to Orlando for a tie on Friday against either Manchester City or Al-Hilal. It is the latest victory for a Brazilian team against prestigious European opposition at the tournament in the United States, after Botafogo defeated PSG and Flamengo got the better of Chelsea in the group stage. Inter came to the US off the back of their 5-0 defeat by PSG in the UEFA Champions League final at the end of May and with a new coach in Cristian Chivu. They did not fully convince during the group stage despite topping their section and they found themselves trailing inside three minutes before only just over 20,000 fans at the Bank of America Stadium on another hot afternoon. A cross from the Fluminense right by Jhon Arias took a deflection off Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni and the ball then bounced awkwardly before veteran Argentine striker Cano arrived to head in through the legs of goalkeeper Yann Sommer from close range. Ignacio thought he had made it 2-0 before the interval, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside. Sommer then tipped a fine curling strike by Arias around the post just after the hour mark, before Inter began to turn up the pressure in an attempt to avoid exiting the competition. Stefan de Vrij prodded wide from close range after captain Lautaro Martinez had headed down a cross, and the latter then saw a fine shot on the turn from the edge of the box come back off an upright. Martinez had also been denied by Fluminense goalkeeper Fabio moments earlier, and confirmation that it would not be Inter's day arrived in stoppage time. On as a substitute, Hercules pounced on a falling ball and drove into the box before firing low into the corner. Federico Dimarco then hit the woodwork at the other end as Fluminense held out for the victory to keep South American hopes of glory at the tournament firmly alive. as/rcw This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text.

Fluminense blanks Inter Milan to reach CWC quarterfinals
Germán Cano scored very early, the substitute Hércules added a goal very late and Fluminense upset Inter Milan 2-0 on Monday afternoon in Charlotte, N.C., to reach the quarterfinals of the FIFA Club World Cup. HT Image The 44-year-old Fábio made four saves to seal one of the most famous wins in the Rio de Janeiro club's storied history and a result that ensured there will be two Brazilian quarterfinalists in the first edition of this expanded tournament format. Fluminense will play the winner of Monday's later game between Manchester City and Al-Hilal in Orlando, Fla. If heavily favored Manchester City progress, it would present a rematch of the 2023 Club World Cup final, which Manchester City won 4-0. Inter Milan was eliminated in the second round 30 days after they suffered a 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint Germain in the UEFA Champions League final. They also narrowly finished second in the Italian Serie A. Fluminense were the better side for the opening hour of another sweltering second-round encounter, then suffered through increased Inter Milan pressure for the final 20 minutes to keep their third clean sheet of the tournament. Lautaro Martínez came closest to pulling Inter Milan level, forcing Fábio into a pair of saves in the 80th and 82nd minute, then striking the upright with another low effort only seconds later. Eleven minutes later, Inter Milan's at times shaky defense was exposed for a second time. The result was Hércules finding himself free at the edge of the 18-yard-box following a throw-in, free to drive a composed, low finish that nestled in the bottom right corner and sent most of the crowd into delirium. Cano put the Brazilians in front in just the third minute during a shaky start from the Italians. Jhon Arias' cross from the right took a deflection that caused Milan defenders and goalkeeper Yann Sommer to hesitate. Cano reacted superbly, continuing his run to meet the ball and angling his header from close range downward and through Sommer's legs. Fluminense nearly doubled the lead in the 30th minute, when Sommer gave up a rebound on Arias' initial effort and Samuel Xavier fired his rebound attempt narrowly wide of the far-left post. And in the 39th, Ignacio thought he had doubled Flu's advantage, only to be ruled fractionally offside by the automated review system. The pattern of more Milan possession but more dangerous Fluminense chances continued early in the second half, and Sommer reacted superbly in the 62nd minute to dive and push Arias' effort from beyond the penalty area just around his left post.
