"Lassie" stars Tommy Rettig (left), George Cleveland and Jan Clayton (top), and Joey Vieria (aka ... More Donald Keeler) in the middle.
Joseph Vieira, the former child actor who appeared on Lassie using the stage name Donald Keeler, died on April 7 after a lengthy illness. He was one day short of turning 81.
'We have just lost Joey Vieira (aka Donald Keeler) who played Porky, Tommy Rettig's best buddy on the first incarnation of Lassie (Jeff's Collie), wrote Laurie Jacobson, the wife of Lassie star Jon Provost on Facebook. 'Joey appeared in a number of TV shows and films after his time on Lassie. And later had a brilliant career as a record producer and TV writer and producer. He wore a lot of hats in his 50+ years in the business; but the most important "hat" for us was that of dear friend."
Born April 8, 1944, Joey Vieira was the nephew of actress, dancer and singer Ruby Keeler and the half-brother of actor Ken Weatherwax, who played Pugsley Addams in the original Addams Family sitcom. His first appearance on television was in an episode of The Ray Milland Show at age nine in 1953. One year later, he began his four-season stint on Lassie as the beanie-wearing Sylvester 'Porky' Brockway.
Following Lassie, Vieira guest-starred in numerous series including comedies The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis and My Three Sons before landing a recurring role in the 1965 to 1966 sitcom Hank.
Vieira's film appearances included The Private War of Major Benson in 1955 with Charlton Heston and, in later years, The Patriot in 2000 with Mel Gibson. As an adult, Vieira made sporadic guest appearances in TV series including Remington Steele, Married with Children and Moonlighting.
Vieira also had a music career in the 1970s and 1980s.
'I met Joey when I was seven years old, when I started Lassie, we hit it off and remained friends forever,' wrote Jon Provost on Facebook. 'Joey was a great guy, a talented actor and even a successful record producer. Joey has joined his son Beau in heaven.'
Top - George Cleveland, unknown, Joey Vieria and Jan Clayton. Bottom: Jon Provost and, of course, ... More Lassie.
'He passed at 11:52 last night after a lengthy illness. His devoted daughter, Shanyn, was by his side. He suffered the loss of his sweet and wonderful son, Beau, to cancer close to 2 years ago. I know Beau will be the first to greet him with Tommy right behind,' continued Laurie Jacobson on Facebook. 'Dear Joey, you were one of a kind and we will miss you so much. Eee-ya- keee, Porky! RIP'

Watch: 'Ick' trailer highlights conspiracy theories, '00s rock music

The film will play theaters in New York and Los Angeles July 24 to 31 and July 27 to 29 nationwide. Brandon Routh stars as a high school teacher who springs into action when the town's mysterious growths, called Ick, become deadly. He also discovers one of his students (Malina Weissman) may be his daughter. Ick premiered at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival. UPI reviewed it when it played Screamfest, praising its irreverent relevance about society's inaction to crises, and director Joseph Kahn's technique in blending the horror and comedy. The trailer shows a town meeting where locals claim warnings about Ick are "false flags" from "crisis actors." Kahn co-wrote the film with Samuel Laskey and Dan Koontz. Routh spoke with UPI at Screamfest and said he related to his character, Hank. Hank was a football star who was injured because of Ick and now regrets he could not go pro. Mena Suvari also stars as Hank's high school girlfriend. Harrison Cone, Debra Wilson, Taia Sophia, Zeke Jones and Jeffrey Fahey also star. The soundtrack includes All-American Rejects, Blink 182, Paramore and other bands from the early 2000s when Hank was in high school.

Lady Gaga Channels Wednesday Addams' Gothic Glam in New ‘Abracadabra' Performance

Lady Gaga delivered a blast of glammed-up gothic horror with her performance of 'Abracadabra' at Netflix's Tudum live event this past weekend in Los Angeles. Gaga took the stage for an eight-minute performance, and right after, Netflix shared the first six minutes of the long-awaited new season of Wednesday. To match the Addams Family mood, Gaga performed a special three-song set of horror-tinged tunes starting with Mayhem's 'Zombieboy' before going into her Born This Way favorite, 'Bloody Mary.' The performance ends with Gaga returning to a coffin alongside the beloved disembodied hand, Thing, as the Addams Family theme plays. Along with her performance, Gaga was able to finally share some new details about her cameo role in Season Two of Wednesday. She's set to play Rosaline Rotwood, described as a 'legendary Nevermore teacher who crosses paths with Wednesday' at some point during the second half of the season. Wednesday Season Two is set to premiere on Sept. 3. Gaga released her most recent album, Mayhem, back in March, marking her first proper album of all new material since 2020's Chromatica. (Though in between, she released several projects, including a second collaboration with Tony Bennett and a companion album for Joker: Folie à Deux.) Gaga has since taken the album on the road, headlining Coachella, playing shows in Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, and Singapore, and prepping for the North American leg of her tour, which kicks off July 16 in Las Vegas.
