"The information related to his arrest has been given to his family members," a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) spokesperson said in a statement.

The situation in state capital Imphal was tense after reports of the arrest of the AT leader started circulating on Saturday.
The CBI statement made it clear that Singh was arrested from the Imphal airport on Sunday.
As a preventive measure, the administration has issued prohibitory orders in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching districts, while internet and mobile-data services, including VSAT and VPN facilities, have been suspended in these valley areas.
Protesters torched tyres and old furniture on roads in Kwakeithel and Uripok, demanding the release of the Meitei leader.
They clashed with security forces at different places in the state capital on Saturday night. A mob also set a bus on fire at Khurai Lamlong in Imphal East district.
More than 260 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic clashes between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups in Manipur since May 2023.
The Centre imposed the President's rule in the northeastern state on February 13 after Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned.
The state Assembly, which has a tenure till 2027, has been put under suspended animation.

Narmada: A team of 60 rescues leopard 12 days after attacks on woman, child
It took a team of 60, comprising forest officers and volunteers, several hours of gruelling search and a nearly 12-day combing operation to rescue a wild leopard that is believed to be behind two back-to-back attacks on humans in Sagbara taluka of Narmada district. The said attacks include a fatal one involving a nine-year-old. On Saturday night, forest officials managed to tranquilise the animal after two near-miss hits earlier during the week, after trapping it inside a net in a sugarcane field in Beda Pani village of Sagbara taluka. Forest officials believe that the wild leopard, a four-year-old adult male, had lived in the sugarcane field for a brief period owing to easy access to prey in nearby villages. Range Forest Officer (RFO) Sagbara Abhay Singh told this newspaper, 'We managed to rescue the leopard after tranquilising it on Saturday night in a sugarcane field in Beda Pani village, which is within a three kilometre periphery of Kolvan, where the nine-year-old had been dragged and killed by the leopard. Our analysis, so far, based on the pug marks and other indications, says that the same leopard has been involved in both the attacks.' It was in Beda Pani that a 40-year-old woman was attacked in her sleep with the big cat biting off a part of her ear. Singh said that the forest department teams, comprising experts from Banaskantha, Devgadh Baria and Chhota Udepur, camped in the periphery of the two villages where the forest department had also set up multiple trap cages for over a week, but did not find succeed. Singh said, 'We waited for weeks to see if the leopard walked into the cage but he did not… Therefore, four days ago, we began combing the sugarcane fields as we had analysed the movement and concluded that it was hiding in the fields. We used our tractors and JCBs to comb the fields, causing the leopard to move. On two occasions, the tranquilisation teams also hit successful darts but the leopard managed to escape. On Saturday, it was cornered in a spot where we were able to trap it in a net and then tranquilise it.' Singh added that the leopard has now been taken to the Forest Rescue Centre in Timbi village of Rajpipla in the district while directions will be sought from the Chief Wildlife Warden (CWW) of Gujarat to decide the further action. Singh said, 'We will submit the report to the CWW as per protocol. The CWW will decide if the leopard should be released in a core forest area with a prey base or be sent to a centre earmarked for leopards involved in human conflict resulting in death. Since this leopard has been involved in at least two human attacks within a week, we will await appropriate directions…' Meanwhile, the forest officials will continue night patrolling in the villages in Sagbara to ascertain if more big cats have been moving in the revenue area. Singh said that with villagers having shifted to growing sugarcane in the area, leopards have made their way into the revenue areas in search of prey. 'The villagers in this area have transitioned to growing sugarcane in the last few years… It has given the big cats a reasonable place to hide and attempt to prey on domestic animals and hens in the villages. Leopards are good at adapting and therefore, they can survive well in revenue areas outside the forest area too.'

Even as a blame game has broken out between the police and the State government over mishaps during Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations, it has now emerged that the Vidhana Soudha security had flagged concerns of overcrowding, lack of time and shortage of security personnel for the felicitation for the team on the grand steps of Vidhana Soudha. This letter is the only document that shows the State Government overruled concerns raised by the Bengaluru City Police and went ahead with RCB victory celebrations. While it is true that no untoward incidents happened at the Vidhana Soudha event, police have argued an open-air event at the administrative nerve centre of the state, coupled with a unilateral announcement by RCB of a victory parade on June 4 morning, brought lakhs to the street, eventually leading to a stampede at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) had written to DCP (Vidhana Soudha Security) on June 3 seeking an opinion on felicitation for the RCB team if they won in the IPL finals. Responding to this letter on June 4, M. N. Karibasavagowda, DCP (Vidhana Soudha Security), flagged concerns over 'lakhs of RCB fans gathering for the event' and said since there was a shortage of security personnel in the Vidhana Soudha division, making bandobast for the event could be a problem. He further says that there was a lack of time to deploy more personnel from outside the Vidhana Soudha Security unit to coordinate with Law and Order and Traffic Police. DCP Vidhana Soudha Security concludes that there was need of more time to hold the event at Vidhana Soudha, a vital installation following all rules, but says the police would abide by whatever decision the government takes. Fresh unrest in Manipur as CBI arrests Arambai Tenggol leader Violence broke out across Manipur's Imphal Valley after a top leader of Arambai Tenggol, an armed Meitei radical group, was picked up by security forces on Saturday evening. Four others belonging to the Arambai Tenggol were reportedly detained for questioning. Members of the Arambai Tenggol clashed with security forces personnel when they went to pick up A. Kanan Singh, a former Manipur Police head constable. A volley of gunshots was heard and supporters of the group burnt tyres and old furniture on the road. Vehicles of the security forces were torched on the Airport Road, and scores of people, including security personnel, were injured. As the violence spread, the government clamped prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and suspended Internet and mobile data services in the five Imphal Valley districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Kakching, and Thoubal for five days. The Arambai Tenggol, which came into prominence after the ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities broke out in May 2023, countered by 'imposing' a 10-day shutdown across these five districts. Some youth, believed to be members of the group, threatened self-immolation by pouring inflammable fluids on themselves. By morning, however, the streets of Imphal and the valley beyond wore a deserted look. Hours later, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) issued a statement, saying it had arrested an Arambai Tenggol member at the Imphal Airport on Sunday. 'He was involved in various criminal activities related to Manipur violence in 2023. The information related to his arrest has been given to his family members,' the federal agency said, adding that it was investigating the Manipur violence cases according to the direction of the Supreme Court. 'The trial of the cases has been shifted to Guwahati in view of the law and order situation in Manipur. The said arrested member of Arambai Tenggol has been brought from Imphal to Guwahati, and he will be produced before the competent court for police remand. Investigation is continuing,' the CBI said. The day also saw a delegation of MLAs from various parties meet with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at the Raj Bhavan. A statement from the Raj Bhavan later said the MLAs apprised the Governor of the current law and order situation in Manipur and sought his intervention to find an amicable solution. 'The Governor informed the delegation that all necessary steps are being taken to address the concerns and restore normalcy,' the statement said. Top security officials were present at the meeting. Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested 'three insurgents' in a case related to an attack on security forces that had killed two police commandos and injured several others. 'The three men, along with their associates, had planned, conspired, and executed the attack on an India Reserve Battalion post and security forces in Moreh, Tengnoupal district, on 17th January 2024,' the NIA said in a statement. The accused were identified as Thangminlen Mate, Kamginthang Gangte, and Hentinthang Kipgen alias Thangneo Kipgen. Manipur was relatively calm after the imposition of the President's Rule on February 13. The Imphal Valley descended into chaos over the alleged 'disrespect of Manipur' by security personnel on May 20. A 'civil disobedience campaign' launched by a pressure group thereafter was suspended when floods hit the valley more than a week ago. Internet cut as Meitei leader's arrest sparks protests in Manipur
Internet services were snapped and prohibitory orders clamped across Manipur's central valley Sunday after protests broke out overnight following the CBI's arrest of a leader of the Meitei group Arambai Tenggol. Asem Kanan Singh, the self-styled 'army chief' of Arambai Tenggol, was detained Saturday evening from the Kwakeithel area in Imphal West by security forces along with four other members of the outfit. In response, Arambai Tenggol announced a 10-day 'total shutdown'. In a statement, the CBI said it arrested Asem at Imphal airport over his involvement in 'various criminal activities related to Manipur violence in 2023' and that he has been taken to Guwahati in connection with the investigation. 'It may be recalled that CBI is investigating Manipur violence cases as per the direction of Hon'ble Supreme Court of India. The trial of the Manipur violence cases have been shifted from Manipur to Guwahati in view of the law and order situation in Manipur. The said arrested member of Arambai Tenggol has been brought from Imphal to Guwahati and he will be produced before the competent court for police remand. Investigation is continuing,' the CBI said. According to officials, Asem was also allegedly involved in the February 2024 abduction of an Additional SP of Imphal West from his home. On Saturday night, as reports of the detention spread, protests erupted with protesters torching tyres and blocking roads in different parts of Imphal city. Confrontations between security forces and protestors were also reported at the Kwakeithel area, leaving multiple protesters injured. Internet and mobile data services, including VSAT and VPN services, were suspended in the early hours of Sunday in the districts of Imphal East and West, Kakching, Thoubal and Bishnupur for five days through an order issued by Manipur Home Commissioner N Ashok Kumar. The order cited the apprehension that 'some anti-social elements might use social media extensively for transmission of images, hate speech and hate video messages inciting the passions of the public which might have serious repercussions for the law and order situation in the state of Manipur.' Internet services were last snapped in these districts in September last year after protests following a renewed escalation of violence in the state. Following the latest protests, prohibitory orders under section 163 of the BNS were imposed across the valley districts citing 'apprehension of serious breach of peace, disturbance to public tranquility, riot or affray in the area, and grave danger to human lives and properties due to unlawful activities of anti-social elements.' In Bishnupur district, a total curfew was imposed with effect from 11 pm of June 7. Meanwhile, the Centre is expected to hold talks on Monday with one of the Kuki-Zo groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with the government. The meeting will be held with Advisor to MHA on North East A K Mishra. Sources said the meeting will largely focus on how to take the talks forward and discuss ways to arrive at a framework. 'Issues related to existing ceasefire agreements are not on the table yet. The demands pushed by the Kuki groups since the onset of violence will also be taken up later,' a government source said. Meitei groups are opposed to the government engaging SoO groups in talks. On Sunday, despite the heavy deployment of security forces, including the Army, in and around Imphal city, protesters enforced road blockades in several areas. At Keishampat in Imphal West district, a 13-year-old boy sustained injuries when a tear gas shell, which was allegedly fired by security forces, exploded. Also on Sunday, an all-political party delegation comprising 26 MLAs and Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba met Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla. Congress MLA Okram Surjakumar said the delegates requested the Governor to make public the reason behind the arrest of the Arambai Tenggol leader. 'The Governor clarified that the AT leader was arrested in connection with a CBI related case. However, the four other members who were arrested with the leader are under verification and would be released after the verification process is over,' said Surjakumar. The NIA, meanwhile, said in a statement that it has arrested two more insurgents in connection with an attack on an IRB post in the Manipur border town of Moreh in January 2024 in which two police personnel had been killed, taking the total number of arrests in this case to three.
