Mineral resources: CM Maryam seeks feasible plan for local, foreign investors
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed to prepare an easy and feasible plan for the local and foreign investors.
She further directed to ensure effective surveillance of mineral resources in Punjab.
She chaired a meeting of the Mines and Minerals department in which the proposal of a special economic zone for value-added products from rock salt was reviewed.
The Chief Minister sought a comprehensive business plan related to Pulsar Gold and Iron project. The meeting also reviewed prospects regarding declaration of a special economic zone in Quaidabad as tax-free for 10 years. Basic infrastructure will also be provided in Quaidabad Special Economic Zone.
The Chief Minister was informed in a briefing that priority will be given to export pink salt in the shape of value-added products instead of raw material. An estimate of 261 million tonnes of iron ore reserves has been carried out in Chiniot. It was further apprised that 33,000 kilograms of gold can be obtained from the Pulsar Gold Project. The Environment Protection Agency has also given approval for the Pulsar Gold Project.
Moreover, the CM while chairing a special meeting for a briefing on Punjab Enforcement & Regulatory Authority (PERA) directed to make the authority functional across Punjab by 30th September.
The CM said, 'PERA will eliminate encroachments besides carrying out price control and other matters, enforcement stations will be established across the province under the Authority.' She highlighted, 'Punjab Enforcement & Regulatory Authority will be functional in Lahore Division in May, while it will be made functional in all divisional headquarters by August 14.'
The CM was briefed by Director General PERA that initial training of 519 enforcement officers and relevant staff has been completed. She directed the relevant authorities to establish training wing of Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority.

The Punjab government on Thursday announced the launch of Pakistan's first Environmental Protection Force (EPF), alongside a series of measures aimed at tackling climate and environmental challenges in the province. Launch of Emission Testing Certification for vehicles, aligned with international standards. Installation of 50 air quality monitoring stations across the province. Establishment of four fuel testing labs to monitor petrol quality. Setup of 15 water quality monitoring stations on rivers and drains. Deployment of sprinkler systems on construction sites to reduce dust pollution. Introduction of tree plantation and recycling initiatives under the 'Chief Minister Green Credit Program'. Establishment of a GIS squad using artificial intelligence to monitor environmental compliance. Launch of a dedicated helpline (1317) for public feedback on environmental issues. The statement also noted that emission control systems are being installed in over 2,000 industrial units, with e-mapping underway. All brick kilns in Punjab have been converted to zigzag technology, according to the provincial administration. Govt urged to develop strategy for combating plastic pollution Additionally, the government has initiated environmental social safeguard training for public departments and created divisional environmental offices in five regions, with four more planned. A mobile application titled 'Green Punjab' has been launched to facilitate public interaction with the government's environmental services. The electric bus service launched in Lahore will be expanded to other divisions, with plans to introduce 1,100 additional electric buses and establish charging stations across Punjab.

ADB, Punjab govt to launch ‘Agri e-Mechanization Project'
LAHORE: The Asian Development Bank and the Punjab government have reached a mutual understanding on launching the 'Agri E-Mechanization Project' in Punjab which is expected to receive cabinet approval soon. The consensus was reached in a meeting of the ADB delegation with Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb on Saturday. The meeting discussed climate change, agricultural development, and environmental initiatives. The Senior Minister briefed the delegation that CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif's priorities include strengthening health, education, agri e-mechanization, establishment of a climate observatory, a climate action plan, farmer welfare, carbon credits, and developing local experts in every sector. She added that strategies are being considered to link Punjab's agricultural universities with global institutions. She highlighted that under the CM's initiative, 5,000 super seeders have been provided to farmers at a 60% subsidy to prevent crop residue burning. Additionally, climate-resilient agricultural machinery and easy loans for farmers are being introduced. A comprehensive strategy has been devised based on four agricultural zones, and complete machinery mapping has been carried out. The delegation was briefed on rice transplanters, balers, and harvesters. A subsidy of one million rupees per tractor is being offered, and 20,000 tractors will also be manufactured locally. For those unable to purchase machinery, rental options are being provided. Under local financing, harvesters are being made available, and the payment system has been improved. The meeting emphasized international collaboration on carbon markets, air quality, and carbon credits. The senior minister stated that the private sector would also be engaged in the carbon financing programme. A climate resilience policy and vision have been developed, and all departments are working in unison under a joint strategy. Technical assistance is being acquired for carbon storage, market, and data development. She affirmed that all climate initiatives are aligned with the targets of the Paris Agreement. Punjab's first Climate Observatory is ready for launch with a detailed PC-1 prepared, while the Climate Action Plan, flood protection, and other related programmes are actively progressing. The project also focuses on multi-sectoral carbon storage and AQI improvements. Work is underway on a collection system to curb crop residue burning. Additionally, 1% of every ADP scheme budget has been allocated for plantation. Agriculture, energy, and transport sectors are among the key stakeholders in the climate-resilient programme. Punjab govt moving towards regularizing illegal housing societies
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a special meeting to discuss proposals on how to regularize illegal housing societies in the province. The CM said, 'The housing schemes that have been built should be regularised as soon as possible according to the law, so that people could get a relief. The government departments are equally responsible for the establishment of illegal housing societies. They were established with their collusion, but only the common men who bought them got punished.' She added, 'Why did the relevant institutions turn a blind eye when illegal housing societies were being built. Money is taken from the poor people but plots are not given.' The Chief Minister directed the authorities concerned to abolish unnecessary NOCs for the registration of housing societies. She agreed to form a high-level committee for the regularization of illegal housing schemes. She also directed the authorities concerned to take measures to digitize housing sector for the first time in Punjab. The CM said, 'Housing society management system should be introduced. Housing society approval, management and transfer will be made possible online. NOC fees will also be paid online after uploading the required documents.' Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, 'Development and management will also be made possible through the housing society management system.' She considered different options and does to devise foolproof methods for the development and management of housing societies. She noted, 'According to the rules and regulations, housing schemes should be considered for amnesty once.' The Chief Minister was briefed by the relevant authorities, 'Total number of housing societies in Punjab is 7905, covering an area of about 2 million kanals.' She was also apprised, '2687 housing schemes are approved, while 5118 are illegal or under process across Punjab.'
