'Marcel (Reed) has been great' Texas A&M HC Mike Elko praises his QB's development
Texas A&M's 2025 season will wholly depend on starting quarterback Marcel Reed taking the next step in his development, and while most of the national media are highly skeptical, coach Mike Elko has vocally backed the redshirt sophomore based on his offseason development, and continued to do so on Tuesday night during the Forth Worth Coach's Night.
Reed is a dual-threat quarterback in every sense of the definition, flashing brilliance as a runner, while he has shown the arm strength and accuracy needed to thrive in the SEC. However, inconsistency in the pocket was a constant issue outside of a handful of games, while his poor performance in the season finale loss to Texas resulted in the national media losing confidence in the former four-star recruit.
Still, thanks to his father, Rod Reed, we have been able to witness Marcel put the work in the offseason, working with various coaches to refine his technique as a passer, mainly working on his accuracy and quick release. In OC Collin Klein's balanced offense, Reed will need to make the tight window throws and complete enough deep passes to open up the running game, which shouldn't be an issue on paper given the influx of talent in the wide receiver room from the transfer portal.
With KC Concepcion and Mario Craver joining Terry Bussey, Ashton Bethel-Roman, Izaiah Williams, and Jonah Wilson in the 2025 WR Corps, Reed can thrive in the short to intermediate passing game given every player's ability to gain yards after contact.
On Tuesday night, Elko once again praised his QB based on the work he's put in, reminding the Aggies in the audience that during his first starting season as a redshirt freshman, mistakes are almost guaranteed, but he's on the right track regardless.

"I don't think anybody really appreciates the development that Marcel made because a lot of his development happened at the end of the year when we didn't get the results that we wanted. … We have to finish those games and get the results, but if you're looking for signs of growth from the quarterback, those signs were there."
"Growth" is everything when it comes to quarterback development, and while some will see this as coach-speak, Elko has kept it real when discussing player development, especially given the importance of the 2025 campaign.

Florida basketball finalizing matchup with in-state rival Miami Hurricanes in November Florida basketball is closing in on an agreement to take on the Miami Hurricanes in Jacksonville this coming season, according to Swamp247's Graham Hall. The two programs are eyeing Sunday, Nov. 16, as the date for the neutral-court matchup between two in-state rivals. The Gators trounced the Hurricanes in a 78-58 beatdown on that late November afternoon. Once finalized, Miami joins the Arizona Wildcats, Duke Blue Devils and UConn Huskies on Florida's non-conference schedule, as well as the inevitable matchup with the Florida State Seminoles. There is also the Rady Children's Invitational at the end of November in which the Gators will compete against the Providence Friars, TCU Horned Frogs and Wisconsin Badgers. Ohio State basketball alumni team, 'Carmen's Crew' announces return to TBT If you love yourself some amateur summer basketball, most notably the now annual spectacle that is "The Basketball Tournament (TBT)," you're in luck because it is back again for another run at the $1 Million, winner-take-all cash prize. And, that being the case, you know all Ohio State basketball fans are ready for another go at a championship for the OSU alumni team known affectionately as "Carmen's Crew." All Carmen's Crew did was win the whole thing last year, making it twice now that the mostly former Ohio State players have taken home the championship, joining their win from the 2019 season. But will the team return to try and defend its title, or will it rest easy knowing it took home some significant money for the members of the team? According to an announcement on social media Wednesday, we can tell you to rest easy, Buckeye fans, because "Carmen's Crew" will indeed be back for another shot at winning a boatload of money. It appears as though the team is still finalizing the complete roster, but it did announce that William Buford, Kaleb Wesson, Keyshawn Woods, Trevor Thompson, and Jeff Gibbs will be back to run it back once again, and that the team will start play in the Indianapolis Region. We'll stay on top of any further roster announcements, but we can tell you that the tournament will take place from July 18 through August 3. As the schedule for "Carmen's Crew" is made available, we'll have coverage of it all. The former Buckeyes will be in a region with hosts "Assembly Ball (Indiana Alumni team)" and "All Good Dawgs (Butler Alumni team)," as well as "GoTime Green Machine," "Locked In Elite," "Fail Harder," "Shield 219 (Valparaiso Alumni)," and "Fort Wayne Champs." Oregon Football QB target Bryson Beaver impresses among Elite 11 Finals standouts When it comes to the recruiting world, there's one player who has seemingly dominated the recent buzz for the Oregon Ducks, particularly when it comes to the quarterback position. That player is 4-star QB Bryson Beaver, who has seen his recruitment skyrocket over the last week. Rated a three-star commit to the Boise State Broncos a week ago, Beaver has since seen his rating rise to a four-star after being offered by the Ducks. He has taken a couple of visits to SEC schools after receiving offers from the Ole Miss Rebels and Alabama Crimson Tide. He also scheduled an official visit to Oregon for this coming weekend, and is now predicted to land with the Ducks according to a new Crystal Ball prediction from 247Sports' Blair Angulo. While those things may take place in the coming days or weeks, the focus right now for Beaver is the Elite 11 Finals, a QB camp in Los Angeles. The first day of competition took place on Tuesday night, and Beaver reportedly stood out as one of the best passers, being named among the top performers, per On3. "If Day 1 was any indication, Bryson Beaver is one of the top arm talents at the Elite 11 Finals. Beaver's arm strength stood out, particularly as the workout wore on," On3's Charles Power wrote. "It took Beaver a little while to get going, but he was more and more comfortable throughout the night and delivered some of the better throws we saw on the evening. Towards the end of the workout, we felt he was throwing with arguably the most velocity of all the finalists." As Beaver continues to perform at a high level at Elite 11 and throughout the rest of the offseason, interest is going to grow. However, the Ducks appear to be in a great spot to land a commitment from him in the near future. The Ducks are also in on five-star QB Ryder Lyons, who took an official to Eugene last weekend. Lyons is going to decide between Oregon and the BYU Cougars, but he is planning to take an LDS mission out of high school, so he is more like a member of the 2027 class.
